One of my puppy books suggests removing any bedding for a couple of days too... Exactly as Koala says, be patient, got back to basics, give it time and she will get there! She is sooooooooo cute!

When I contacted our breeder initially, I was looking for a blem female... At the time she had two litters available, about 10 days apart, but the blem female in the first litter was sold and she said we could have first pick of the second litter. Hubby and I took a drive out to her. We were able to meet and play with both litters (about 3 weeks and 1 week respectively, so very very tiny). We also got to meet both the Mums and the Dad (he fathered both litters). As it turned out, we weren't so keen on the mother of the younger litter (with the blem babies), as she was a bit aloof. The mother of the older litter was much happier - a bit of a party animal really! There were only two pups left from her litter without forever homes to go to - a blem boy and a tri girl. We took the tri girl as at that point I decided the colour wasn't the be all and end all. Pups that small had no personality so we only had the parents to go from... Our breeder sent us pics every week and you could see she was getting cheekier and cheekier! Now that she is home, she fits in well with us and is like her Mum - a party animal! I am glad we went with her and got to pick her out ourselves. It was a beautiful experience. My sister was on a waiting list for nearly a year for her dog and her breeder picked her pup out for her. She never met her until she was collected from the airport. I have to say, their pup is beautiful too and a very good match for them. I think you will be in safe hands.

How Often Do You Feed Sardines And Eggs?
Genabee replied to Boxer05's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I was feeding predominantly dry food, however Genevieve has dandruff, so I have been feeding her sardines in oil every second day and raw egg (with shell) mixed in with her kibble once a week. I have been doing this for about a month now and I have noticed that she isn't scratching anywhere near what she was and the dandruff is clearing up. I plan to keep this up until the dandruff has gone, then I will drop her back to sardines twice a week... -

It is quite funny that I stumble across this post now! I have just returned from visiting our family in Perth over the weekend, where I took Genevieve for her first holiday! My Dad asked if I could leave her there, to 'play with her Pop Pop for a bit longer' and he would send her home next week!! He emailed me this morning to make sure she was ok after the flight home (never mind asking if your daughter is alright ) Every time I walked into the room, I would find G sitting on my Mum's lap! 'Nanna' (as my mother refers to herself), who doesn't like being licked by dogs, was more than happy to receive a puppy kiss from G! My mother in law who is not ordinarily a dog fan, was quite smitten with her. We were dragged down to a coffee shop so she could show of her 'grand dog' to one of her girlfriends! For the first time in the 6 years I have known her - I saw her run!!!! She was running around the yard playing with the dog! She is definitely my heart dog though. She does her job incredibly well and I am so lucky to have her.

One thing I have learned (and there are many things I have learned!!) since having a bought her home, she is a very intelligent dog! None of the literature I read (about cavs) prior to bringing her home, warned me of this. She learns relatively fast when she wants to and she is persistent at working towards what she wants! Because they are intelligent, you have to keep them stimulated - and mentally wear them out. It is also common for dogs to go through a phase of forgetting everything... I had my first full nights sleep last night - I slept with her on the bed with me until 10.30am - unheard of!!!! This was not due to her winging incidently (I have had a very emotional weekend and last night was the icing on the cake! I took her to bed with me for the company). Something that might work for you - I bought a plastic bottle type thing with a rope coming out of it.... you put treats in it and they have to work out how to get them out. If you feed her dry food, put her morning meal in it and give it to her while you go back to bed. That might keep her busy! If Sophie is anything like Genevieve though, you will notice a difference once she starts regular school!

I had the same issue with my cav puppy, though she was a bit older when she started this (see previous threads with regards to my not sleeping and wanting to cry). I can tell you, it does get better... they do out grow it. If you are spending too much time with her during the day though, it does make it harder for her when you do need to be apart. Also remember to reward thick and fast for the good things she does. She will out grow it, we just have to be patient. PS. I also found a good training session right before bed helped too, as it really wore her out! Feeding her kibble in a water bottle (or specific food dispensing toy) also helped as she wore herself out trying to get to her food! Wearing them out means more sleep! Good luck!

I like them to look pretty... and to be different to what she already has. I don't see the point in buying several versions of the same thing. My Mum and Mother in Law often send toys over for her, so there are a few of the same thing... but not due to me buying them! I also try to look for things with different textures... I am trying to find something with a zip on it, as she always tries to eat the zippers on my pants!!!

Yes. When I ask her to do something, she looks at me with that look that says 'go on, make me!'... I know she knows what I am talking about because as soon as I bribe her, she does it.

Congratulations on your new addition!!! I am researching French names myself at the moment, as we are going with a French theme for our children's names! How about: Tullulah (my fave name, Hubby won't have a bar of it!) Ciel (pronounced see-elle, french for sky) Madeleine Magurite Antoinette Aurora Odette Francis Phoebe Gigi Lulu Ariane Claudine Charlotte (Lotti for short) There are heaps more out there, many are quite long though.... We picked Genevieve to team with our french theme, even though it is a bit long... she answers to her pet names too though (or any name yelled out in a high pitched voice really!)! Good luck with the names!

As another DOLer suggested to me, rub some aloveen conditioner into the coat in between washes. It smells yummy and helps to keep that fresh feeling in between. A regular brush can go a long way too.

A bit of dandruff is our only complaint. As she has got older, her tolerance to food seems to have built up. We don't have a runny tummy anymore, even with bones!

Perhaps you could try monitoring what he is drinking a little more closely? If you let him drink every hour, then take him outside. In the mean time lift his water up?... He will soon work out to drink on command too! It could be worth considering crating him a little more, even when you are home. If he is less likely to go in his crate, he will exercise those tummy and bladder muscles a bit more to hold on. Then take him straight outside. If he doesn't go when you take him outside, put him straight back in his crate and take him out in another 10 minutes. If he does go, leave him out for a little while... The crate is a great tool and if used properly should help things along for you. You might find you will only need to do this consistently for a couple of weeks. Good luck!

I don't know what he is, but he sure is very cute!

So clever!!! :D Thanks Koala! I will definitely be getting one of those!

Aurora used to jump up on the bed and would wiggle down under the covers, but put her nose under my pillow... She used to bark if I had two pillows stacked of if the pillow wasn't in the right place (like it was her bloody bed!) :D Genevieve makes little barking sounds in her sleep. And often swings her paws like she is trying to grab at something.

How Often Do You Hear From The Breeder Of Your Pup
Genabee replied to TsarsMum's topic in Puppy Chat
Once we had picked out the pup (at three weeks), our breeder emailed us once to twice a week with photos updates and a sentence or two of what she had been doing. I was also emailing her all the time with questions. Since having her home, I email her pic updates every now and then, whenever I take some good pics and send them to the family or put them on facebook, I include her. -
... and she just did it again. In my lap thank you....

I think Elbie's version of dead is awesome! And I love the command you give him to get him to do it!!!!!! IS the tucker ball known as anything else? I was looking on the wagsalot site and couldn't find it?? I must be looking in the wrong place. Is it cheaper buying them online than going into a store?
-
Thanks Koala! Someone has also suggested the goodie ship is worth a go!! I thought G had a substantial amount of toys until I saw some others' collections!!! I think I have been depriving my dog!
-
Yes! Silent, deadly and while she is asleep!!! Rarely when she is awake! She eats mainly advance kibble, occasionally she gets some beef liver when training (in tiny amounts otherwise she gets the runs, I tend to use kibble for this reason), a tin of sardines a week and chicken wings once a week...
-
Maybe I need to buy G some more toys.... The muffin tin is so cute! I could just see G putting her paw underneath the whole thing and flipping it upside down.... then barking at it because she wouldn't be able to flip it back the other way! Playing treasure hunt with the food is a good thing to try! We can now evacuate the water bottle in about 3 minutes...

When she was first at home as a little thing I took her water away. It worked well for us as she was holding most nights by 10 weeks. I still do now, but not until she actually goes to bed. Then she doesn't get water again until she wakes up in the morning. She generally holds for the night, occasionally she has me up for a toilet break, but usually only if she didn't go before going to bed of if she ate too close to going to bed. Sometimes she does it because she wants t get up and play and have me chase her around the back yard.

I just wanted to know... should a dog be flatulent? If so, how often is too often? And what can you do to reduce it?
