Thanks, Garrards is about a 30 min drive but I might go and get some and can buy in bulk if they like it :)

I feed Barf here and mine love it but what is Big Dog Barf? Is it the same as normal Barf? Living up here in the stick we don't get a huge variety so I'm wondering if its just not ranged at our local Pet Barn.

Its funny you say that as the 2 dogs I've owned that have had temperament issues (DA for both and one was extremely fearful of other dogs from day one of him coming home) and both were around 12 + weeks when I got them. All my other dogs have ranged from 5weeks (I know, but it was before I knew any better) to 8 weeks when they came home and they all have steady temps and no behaviour problems. Not to say that this was the cause of their problems (I'm certain that genetics was to blame for my last Dobes issues but this could have been a contributing factor to the severity maybe). I've bred one litter of pups and they were free to go from 8 weeks of age but 2 stayed with me for an extra few weeks as they were flying interstate. I made sure they were treated the same as the pup I kept and I think it really helped.

When You Meet A [insert Your Breed Here]
Remarkabull replied to Salukifan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Australasian Bosdog ( Aussie Bulldog) - friendly, boisterous, excitable. They generally love everyone and everything but they can be a bit OTT when saying hello. They play rough with lots of wrestling, body slamming, grunting and snuffling which can be off putting to other breeds and I've noticed some dogs seem wary of mine at first but usually realise pretty quickly that they are friendly. Most snore and make lots of grunting, snorting noises (like a pig). They have no concept of personal space and despite being over 20kg they think they're lap dogs. They only require moderate amounts of exercise (mine get a short walk, 2km, once a day) but they don't freak out if you miss a day or 2 and they have a couple of hyper moments but it usually doesn't last long and then they're happy to spend the day on the lounge. When happy or excited they don't just wag their tail, their whole body wriggles too. They're sometimes stubborn and will do what you want if they feel like it or if you have something they want. They are not known for aggression of any kind and there are plenty of people who run multiple entire males and bitches together with no issues, but as with any dog breed there are always a few exceptions. They have the most soulful eyes and expressive faces and just about everyone who meets them loves them :) -
The Woolworths Pet Insurance Advert
Remarkabull replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
I haven't seen it yet but it sounds stupid. I own bull breeds and they are sweet, friendly dogs and its hard enough with the misconceptions most people hold towards them without something like this reinforcing what so many already believe. -
He is back to normal, has been annoying me and his mum all day :) He had 3 small meals today and has done a 'normal' poo so everything seems to be in good working order. I'm so relieved as this was just another thing for me to deal with at a stressful time. I had the day off work to stay with him, thankfully my boss understands how much my dogs mean to me and is going to let me pay back the hours next week.

I have some I/D from vet yesterday but he wouldn't touch it (not that I blame him). He was obviously hungry and I only gave him a small amount to see how he goes. If it stays down I'll give him some more at lunch time. We went to get BBQ chook last night but they had none left and it was too early to get one this morning so I was limited in what I had here to give him.

Lots of 'Darwin Specials' up here, usually dark brindle bull/working breed mixes or Pitt/Shar Pei types are also popular. Plenty claim to have 'mastiff' crosses but I haven't seen any pure looking mastiffs up here at all that could be used to create all these crosses. BYB is very popular up here and I am still amazed at how much they charge for their pups. There is currently someone selling a litter of Beagles (no papers of course) for $850 and a Dobermann litter (again, no papers) for $1000. Small fluffy crosses go for $450 usually without any vaccinations or worming In my general area there is a Dobe, a couple of Pointers, Husky and a Pom, Beagles and a couple of Cavs most of the rest are crosses, large and small.

Some hopeful news, Arnold has eaten some breakfast this morning. I only gave him a small amount but he was enthusiastic about it (although he wouldn't eat my first offering but was happy to eat the dog roll). He also seems much more perky today, he is currently trying to hump his mother so things are obviously looking up :)

Oh, and his belly was tender and sore when she felt/pressed into it if that suggests one diagnoses over another?
-
Obstruction was discussed but she is leaning towards gastro as he doesn't have a history of eating toys/objects and I haven't seen anything that has been chewed around the place. I guess if there is no improvement in a few days we will have to look more at that being a possibility. I just feel so helpless and want to make him feel better.
-
So Arnold has been refusing to eat for 2 days now and we took him to vet this afternoon and have no definite diagnosis of the cause. At this stage we are treating it as gastro (he has vomited a few times but no diarrhoea) and he is on antibiotics. He also has a lump on his shoulder that they did a skin scraping on and it came back with nothing but they want to treat it as a fungal thing and if it doesn't respond he will need to have a biopsy done on it. He is drinking and has remained hydrated although he is definitely not his usual self. I'm concerned about him not eating for so long, he has lost over 1.5kg in the last couple of days and I've offered him just about everything to get him to eat and he won't touch anything If he doesn't show interest in eating tomorrow I'm really going to start worrying.

My pup did it for weeks, sometimes we would find it out in the back yard ( we had a doggy door). It started when he was about 10 weeks old and we still had 2 of his sisters here with us and continued for a month or so. I never made a big deal over it and he eventually stopped doing it.

Dogs Get 3rd Degree Burns At A Canberra Groomers
Remarkabull replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
I always work on one dog at a time. They get washed, blow dried (on the table by me) and clipped. I have worked somewhere that cage dried and it was all about getting through as many dogs as possible per day. I prefer clients to leave the dogs with me but I always allow them to the area where I groom and have allowed a few to stay who were real worry warts but I explain that it's actually much less stressful for the dogs if the owners are not there, not to mention a hell of a lot easier for me! The ones who've stayed the first time have been happy to leave them after that. I can only imagine the pain of these poor dogs and I hope this guy gets taken for all he's got. -
Would You Give An Adopted Dog Back?
Remarkabull replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
In these particular circumstances I'd probably give the dog back but I'd want to feel sure that it was cared for properly. Just because someone has owned a dog for 7 years and it's never previously escaped doesn't make it the best home for the dog. -
When times are bad the kids and the dogs are looked after first, then hubby and I. In saying that we rarely go without creature comforts. We do live week to week but we have a decent combined income and we spend lots on non essentials so it's not due to low/lack of income. We don't smoke, rarely drink or go out but we spend a bit on technology related items and we have 2 car loans, rent, caravan loan and credit card debt :/ I suppose I don't worry too much about a major vet bill as we have a flawless credit rating and could get a loan or ask our parents for a loan if desperate.

Who knows if they'll follow it up but I figure that other reading the post might take notice and do some research for themselves :)

As we all know there are always people buying and selling puppies on Facebook sites and for the most part I ignore it as I've been caught up in the past due to trying to educate and I just get shouted down and called names. However, today there was a post from a lady looking for Rottweiler pups and I thought I could suggest dogzonline and give a quick explanation why so I posted a link to this site and briefly explained that for the same amount of money as one would pay a pet shop or BYB a person could get a pup from a good breeder, with papers, health tested etc. So far the op has thanked me for the input and no nasty comments :)

Entire Dogs Always Told Off For Mounting
Remarkabull replied to Simply Grand's topic in General Dog Discussion
They don't all have a strong urge. The stud we used showed almost no interest in my bitch and she was desperately trying to get him interested! She is a complete tart when in season and was shoving it in his face and apart from a couple of sniffs and a half hearted attempt to put one leg on her he just kept moving away. We ended up doing AI and he was much more receptive to human ladies than he was another dog :) -
Not sure about the grooming requirements but I used to belong to a Flyball club with a lady who had 2 and they were awesome. Quite athletic and really cool looking dogs too :)

While out walking my 2 a few months ago I was stopped by a middle aged couple with a large, aggressive bull breed cross. They asked a few questions about my dogs and then went on a tangent that the next pup they brought would have to be from a breeder who let them have their pick of the entire litter. I tried to explain that with many breeders this would not be possible and then tried to explain why but they would have none of it and said that the 'will be picking the best one for ourselves before anyone else does' and would only be dealing with a breeder who would give them first option over anyone else. I wished them luck and continued on my walk :)

Beautiful doggies. For some reason I always thought Bull Arabs were predominately white with brown or brindle markings? -

My bitch also had a natural and trouble free delivery, although it was long (she had 11 pups). There are still some bitches who can't whelp naturally but if they've had 2 litters delivered by c-section then they can't be bred from again. -
