  1. Yep, I just looked up the website for AWL here in NT and it clearly states that reports are confidential. My friend has a police report of the incident and when talking to AWL she asked to speak to a supervisor and was apparently told the same thing. They said the neighbour would be given a copy of the report. I told her to call them and tell them to check their own bloody website for the laws :/
  2. That's what I thought. She just filled me in on what happened. Was late at night and people across the road were drinking in their yard with friends when the 2 dogs on the property started fighting. They hit the dogs with brooms to separate and the neighbour took her dog inside then returned and continued to lay into the housemates dog with the broom then grabbed by scruff of neck and started punching it repeatedly in face. Dog was crying and whimpering and my friend yelled out to stop hitting dog or she would call cops. Dog was then dragged into house. Given the circumstances they would probably guess who dobbed them in anyway as it was late at night and my friend was only person around that wasn't at the house (she was in her yard, taking her dog to toilet before bed).
  3. A friend just posted on FB that they have contacted Animal Welfare about a neighbours dogs and she was told that if she goes ahead and reports her then they will have to tell the neighbour who reported her. Surely this is not true? She is very concerned about the dogs involved but is worried that the neighbour will take revenge on her dog (one of my pups) when she isn't home.
  4. I can get sample bags from the shop up here that sells it. My dogs really like it but I have 2 Bulldogs and 2 small dogs so the cost is a big consideration. I'm happy to pay for quality and $160 for a 20kg bag of dry food is something I used to do all the time but I'm looking at around $170 for 5kgs and even if I only feed it once a week it won't last long. Plus ad on the $70 per month for VAN and $70 per month for meat it gets out of hand quickly. I really want to feed it but I'm still trying to make the decision whether I should or not based on cost.
  5. I was thinking the same. It is very expensive but I assume the quantity needed per meal would be less than other dry foods. I would still feed raw 80% of the time but just want one or two meals a week as something I don't need to think about before feeding it. Also to use when we travel interstate in our van as we don't have the room to store frozen meat for the dogs.
  6. Front left, Australasian Bosdog Rear left
  7. I'll still be feeding mostly raw too and this will just be a once or twice a week thing. I'm expecting it to be fairly pricey up here (am waiting on cost from supplier) but as it's only going to be sometimes we should be able to manage it :) ETA - I have given them the sample packs and they loved it. They can be a bit picky with dry food so it was a good sign they seem to like it so much.
  8. I feed raw but I would like to have something that I can keep in the cupboard as a back up on days where I have run out or forget to thaw the raw. The ingredients look pretty good and there is a business up here that can and will order it in for me but I just want to see what others experiences have been with it. I also have 2 fussy cats who are a pain to feed but I got a can of the Ziwipeak cat food to try and they ate the whole tin between them. I'm thinking of changing them over to it as well.
  9. One of mine used to get the itchy belly but since I stopped feeding kibble and changed them to raw we haven't had any issues. Mine eat roo, chicken, beef, pork and lamb and have no problems with any of it. Grain is not the issue as they have VAN so I assume it is the preservatives and other junk that's in kibble that cause the issue.
  10. My breed has its 'miniature' version too. Every single one I've seen looks deformed. Not nice looking dogs at all. Makes me sad as it's obviously done as a money maker
  11. I usually don't desex my boys but I do have my little fluffy desexed as I have an entire Bulldog bitch and the last thing I want or need is for him to get to her. I've never had any issues with keeping them entire before. My male Bulldog will remain entire even if not used for breeding. Just my personal preference.
  12. Poor little dog. What a way to die
  13. My dogs have never seemed to care when one has gone from the pack. No fretting or searching at all. I now have a mother and son and Arnold (the son) is very attached to Simi (mum) so there might be more to with him if she passes first. Simi likes Arnold but she isn't any more attached to him than any of the other dogs.
  14. Well it's all moving very fast ATM. We did a Prog test today (not sent to lab, just the one to indicate a the range) and Simi is in C3 range (between 2.5-8ng) and vet has recommended doing AI in 1-3 days time. She started flagging last night and is currently harassing my 2 boys trying desperately to get them to do the deed. Stud dog owner and her vet are fantastic and did the collection tonight but Qantas gave her the wrong info so it will be Wednesday before I get the semen. We were going to split it and do 2 inseminations, 1 day apart but now thinking its better to just do one as soon as I get the semen. Thoughts?
  15. Sorry, I'm not very computer literate so don't know how to post link. I would taker her and give her to a Dobe rescue but I'm currently in negotiation with our council about the number of dogs I can have and I really don't want to piss them off. I could only have her for a few days max
  16. I know. I was thinking about doing it myself but as I've never done it before and the dog is in another state so of I stuffed up we would miss out this season so it's safer for me to get the vet to do it.
  17. I just saw an ad on GT advertising a female Dobe for give away. Says she has papers, is not desexed and comes 'from a popular Melbourne breeder'. I'd be very pissed if this was one of my dogs so I was hoping someone might know who she came from. If she's given away up here she'll be used for BYB without a doubt!
  18. Wow, I'll let the owner of the stud know about this. I've been told I have up 4-5 days max to use the semen but with each day it becomes less viable. Getting things delivered to Darwin can be hit and miss so I'm hoping this arrives overnight.
  19. We are taking her for a Prog test on Monday (which will only be day 8 but as semen is coming from interstate the owner of the stud wants to keep a close eye on her levels to make sure it's sent at right time). I will be using the same vet that did our last AI, which was successful but it was with fresh semen. Last time we did the insemination on day 13, no Prog tests were done that time but it was obviously successful. I just don't want to miss out as it's taken a while to arrange this and I'm very excited about introducing these lines into my dogs.
  20. Just wanted to hear others experience with using chilled semen. Was it successful, number of pups compared to a 'normal' sized litter of that breed etc. I am going to be doing an AI next week with chilled semen and as we haven't used chilled or frozen before I was wanting to get others experiences with it.
  21. That's Arnold, he is the most adorable boy and has the personality to match :)
  22. I'll have to take a pic of all 4 later but I did find this one with 3 of them. Can you find the JRT, she is there :)
  23. I have 4 ATM and they're easy. 2 Bulldogs, 1 JRT and 1 small fluffy crossbred. The bulldogs are such a pleasure and are no hassle at all. They are friendly with everyone and everything, they don't bark much and they don't need huge amounts of exercise. The small fluffy is also very easy but does require more grooming and the JRT is the oldest but the most active and can be a bit of a yapper at times. They all get along and it's generally a no stress environment.
  24. We had a Boxer, then Dobes when I was growing up but my first dog was a stray cross bred that our neighbours found in the middle of nowhere. I begged mum and dad to be able to keep him and to my surprise they relented. He looked like a SBT x Corgi. Was tan with white chest, short Corgi legs (although looking back could have also be Dachshund too). He turned out to be a shit of a dog (aggressive towards children, he would even have a go at me if I asked him to do something he didn't want to) but mum and I loved him anyway. My first dog as an independant adult was Sarge the Dobermann. Purchased from a. BYB for $200. Hands down the best dog I've ever met. He was my heart dog and everyone who knew him always said he was the best dog. Lost him to cancer at age 9, 6years ago. I still cry when I think about him.
  25. I do this. I often tell my dogs that 'daddy' is home. I'm Mummy and my parents are nanny and poppy. I refer to them as mummy's babies and other terms of endearment but when talking to others about them I call them dogs. I don't care what other people call their pets as long as they treat them well and appropriately :)
