My ex SIL once told me that it was 'disgusting' and 'unhealthy' to allow my dogs inside the house. She NEVER had dogs (or any animals) in her house but i can tell you it was my house that was cleaner by a long shot. You could go in their house and find food from a couple of days ago sitting on the stove, dishes stacked and covered in food, their toddler would always be walking around with food and dropping it on the carpet and squishing it in. Their house smelt awful, looked awful and there was no way I would eat food that was prepared there. However, she must have been 'hygienic' because if her son touched my dogs then she would make him wash his hands because apparently they are so disgusting and full of germs.

If dogs mouth were filled with as much deadly bacteria as some are saying then we would all be sick. In fact, everyone in my house would be dead! I wouldn't let a dog lick a serious wound (especially one from surgery) but a graze or small cut, whats the big deal?

I know some people that breed blue staffies (don't hold that against me) and sometimes the blue can look like a chocolate or muddy brown colour. Also noticed that the 'blue fawn' is becoming the 'in' thing. It looks like a light tan, no blue at all? Not sure how the ones you're talking about could be though if both parents are brindle. Probably not purebred pups. Or not good quality ones anyway. Edit for spelling

I am so glad I'm leaving VIC soon. It would cost me a fortune. I haven't bothered registering any of mine with local council as I knew we would only be here for 6 months or so.

Hahaha, that's so cute, he has a security blanket.

You'd fit a couple of adult labs in the XXXL size and still have room to swing a cat Agree. I have a XXXL one and my Dobermann and 2 JRT's sleep in it together and there is plenty of room for more. Dobe is only 6 months old but already weighs 30kg so about the size of a lab. Tons of room. I'd go for it, they are the cheapest I've seen for that quality anywhere.

I also have 2 kids. The dogs are definately easier!

I'm no good to you. I have 5 dogs. After every one I say 'that's it, no more until some of these ones have gone over the bridge', but here I am with 5 dogs. Good luck resisting, I hope you're better at it than me :D

I have a dog that has a grade 1 murmur. If the vet hadn't mentioned it then no-one would have ever noticed it. He is perfectly healthy and happy and out of all my dogs he is the most active. We were told that as he ages it might become more apparent in that he will tire more easily and quickly and may not be as active. It may shorten his natural life span, but then again it may not. Odie is almost 3 and so far it has not affected his life in any way. I know that murmurs can cause problems and some need treatment/medication etc but if it is a low grade murmur (like my dog) then chances are it won't. Have the pup checked again, maybe by a different vet for a second opinion. (the vet that gave my dog his first vacc and m/chip didn't even notice the murmur, it was only when I took him for his second puppy vacc after I bought him that my vet noticed it)

I didn't react in any way while he was doing this. He was about 5 meters away from me and he didn't really pay much attention to me either as I just sat there and watched him. I didn't speak to him while it was going on. He immediately looked uncomfortable and uncertain (normal I suppose as this was the first time that I know of) I have had 3 entire males over the years (now 4 with my Dobe) and none have ever done this before. I have seen aroused dogs before (while working in a vet clinic I had the lovely task of helping with collection for AI) and one of my own dogs (a desexed male) tied with a bitch and the sheath was folded in on itself and I had to 'help' get things back in order and while I have no real problem doing this or dealing with these things I still think that the word "yuck' is not inapropriate. I've done things and cleaned up messes that would make most people throw up so I say 'yuck' with a smile on my face I never said it was abnormal, as it has never happened to my dogs before I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this happen and seeing as there are no entire bitches here, what possible reason (if any) for his arousal.

Afghans Are Hard To Train Apparently. ;)

That was fantastic! He is so enthusiastic and eager. -
I hope he dosn't do it that often! Yuck. It was just like you said though, he couldn't stop and he looked pretty upset about it as well.

That's ok, I laughed too at first, got a little worried after 10 minutes of it though. I had visions of me taking him to the vet in that state! Last week my Dobermann's breeder came for a visit and she brought his sister (from same litter) with her. Barkley (horny dog) loved her and spent the whole time dry humping her , but he didn't get to the stage he was at today! Strange

I just put the dogs outside and gave them a bone each and settled down on the steps to supervise. They had only just started to eat them when my MalteseXShih tzu left his bone (NOT normal) and started walking around in little cirlces air humping. When he turned side on to me I could see he had a HUGE erection and was dripping clear fluid from the end of his penis. This went on for about 10 minutes, him air humping, looking at it like WTF??? and finally he sat down, started licking at himself and then stood up and all was back to normal and he proceeded to eat his bone! This has never happened before. He is almost 2 years old, entire, has never (will never) been around a bitch in season. This was just so weird. I've had entire males before and they have never done this. Anyone have any ideas why he would get in this state? Edit 4 sp

I have 5 dogs 2 are large and 3 small. We rent (hubby is in Army) so yard size can change for us and we can't always pick our next house but I find that the size yard dosn't really matter that much. My dogs spend almost all of their time inside anyway and we go for walks and they get let off lead to race around together. Zoomies happen in and outside and they do alot of wrestling and tug games with each other.

It is still pretty common for people (rural, farmers etc) to cull unwanted puppies and kittens. It's not nice but the difference is that these people are not taking pleasure from killing them like this girl did. She had a huge smile on her face and seemed to be enjoying herself quite a bit. There is a difference between culling them because they are sick, injured or unwanted and doing it the way she did. No excuses for her.

Yes it is now, but I'm talking alot of years ago. Don't know, I could be wrong in the breed maybe? No offence meant to any TT breeders ETA: Am replying to Anne's post. Can't work out how to add quotes in edit mode.

Question Of What I Guess You Could Call Morals
Remarkabull replied to Rach...'s topic in General Dog Discussion
If this pet store is in a shopping centre then we have a good idea what it is and I can tell you that they (if indeed it is the one I'm thinking of) will have no interest in changing anything they do. Money is the main objective and morals, knowledge and ethics don't really come into it at all. Even if the 'owners' are interested in doing things differently they won't be allowed to or they are in breach of rules for operating that particular franchise. If it is them Don't do it. -
Don't they have to produce a certain number of litters (generations, not from the same parents) that stay true to the standard aimed for? I thought that was one reason Don B had the s#*!ts with the powers that be because he was close to having the Tenterfield Terrier recognised and then there was a litter that were nothing like the standard?

If the police are doing a raid then they can't waste time trying to tranq dogs before going into a house. The idea is to get in there quickly so the person they are after cannot get away. I doubt very much that these dogs will get a new home. Honestly I wouldn't really want them to be re-homed. These kind of people have dogs like that for a reason - to be aggressive and attack - not the kind of dog I would be wasting time and resources on if I was a rescue. Plenty of others out there that can be saved and rehomed succesfully. Also, how do they know they are pitbulls? Aren't pittys medium size dogs? These were described as being 'large' dogs.

I endured alot as a child. I have spent nearly my whole life depressed and lonely (I have family and friends but feel isolated by my depression). Despite what happened to me I never would/could have done what this girl did. There has to be something 'wrong' with a person for them to be able to do something like this. I don't think that people that do these kinds of things can ever be 'fixed'. They are missing something that cannot be replaced. The world would be better off without them.

Sorry I should have added he's only 10 months so still on puppy amounts. Ah, that makes more sense! I would have to say the best food I have found that packs the most nutrition into the smallest amount would be EVO. Am still hoping that one day it will be available through shops other than the current chain of stores that sell it.
-
That seems like alot for a grown dog. One of my dogs is approx 30 kg and she gets 1.5 cups of dry a day. My 6 month old Dobermann puppy gets about 3 cups of dry plus some raw every day and he is 30 kg and a growing pup! What brand are you feeding? I have fed a couple of different brands of dry food over the years (mostly premium, but not always) and while the amount fed has varied a little bit between them there was never a huge difference for my dogs to maintain their body weight. ETA I currently feed a combination of raw and Black Hawk Holistic Adult food - no corn, wheat or beetpulp and meat (lamb) is the main ingredient.

Why Do People Breed Designer Dogs Just Because They Sell?
Remarkabull replied to heroeswit's topic in General Dog Discussion
you answered your own question. They do it because it makes money. Back in the day I think alot of dogs were crossed to try and blend the best of both for a purpose (hunting, guarding etc), these days it is about what two breeds make a cute sounding name when blended together. I mean what purpose/benefits could possibly come form crossing a JRT and a Pug or a Pug X Cavalier??? Some of the so call designer dogs are hideous looking things that might hav a certain visual appeal while they are still babies but often grow up into ugly looking adults. Poor things, I wonder how many of the get left in the back yard, ignored for the rest of their lives because they are not cute anymore? -
I have a 6month old male dobe and he lives with 4 other dogs of varying size and breeds. The smallest is 3.5kg and he is probably the most outgoing and feisty of them all. The smaller dogs tell the Dobe off all the time. He often treads on their feet (accident) and they yelp and then snap at him. The only problem is that because he is so much bigger than they are he sees it as a bit of a game. They might be getting really cranky and he thinks it's the best fun ever. I have had Dobes in the past and they have all had solid, stable temperaments and were generally very good with other dogs, if somewhat disinterested in them.
