  1. Yes, they are all mine! I do almost 100% of the feeding, training and I spend the most time with them so they are all bonded closely to me. They love my OH and kids but definitely prefer me.
  2. I grew up with Dobermans as our family pets and I was always drawn to their devotion and intense relationships they have with their chosen person. We also now have a Australasian Bosdog (Aussie Bulldog) and this is now our breed of choice. She is the happiest, easiest dog I've ever owned and is such a source of pride and joy to our entire family, not to mention she is so adorable and her requiremenTs are much more suited to our current lifestyle.
  3. I have 4 and they are all very different breeds and personalities so it can be tough at times. I'd say I'd prefer 2 or 3 in the future and they will all be the same breed. All our pets are indoor animals (except the horse) so it can get tough to give enough to each individual every day. We also have 3 cats (plus a foster cat and her 5 kittens) and I have decided that once they pass on we won't get another cat so I can focus more on the dogs.
  4. I would've smiled too :) My own dogs have been known to lick our plates after meals and I occasionally give them food off a fork or spoon. This is their house and if people find it so offensive then they are free to leave. I am also guilty of sharing the odd ice block too :)
  5. I too have worked for this company and the first word (of many) that comes to mind is 'arrogant'. And yes, I do think that they believe people are that stupid and they have been proven right because look at how much money they make from all those uneducated, ill informed people.
  6. Sitting in our lounge room and saw an off lead dog trot across our front lawn. We jumped up and as I got to the front door I saw a lady causally strolling down the road watching the dog. It stopped on neighbours yard and shit on their lawn, while she was watching, and she called it back and went into a house across the street! I'm assuming she is a guest there as I've not seen her or the dog before. So hubby and I are furious and I want to do something but not sure what, so hubby gets a bag, walks over to the house and offers her the bag to pick up the poo! He said she tried to say that she was getting a bag and going back to get it anyway but she was sitting down watching telly when he got to the front door. I'm so proud of him :)
  7. If we were south I would but it's too hot up here, I'm lucky to have any sheets on the bed at all!
  8. I've had a look at the ones from lovemyfurbabies and I think I'll go with those as they are made to measure. I was really unsure about size too as she is a bulldog and they are not a common shape! If all else fails she will probably fit into toddler pull ups or something. Thanks for replies :)
  9. Does anyone know where I can buy them online or does anyone on here make them? Simi is 7 months old now and seeing as she is inside a lot and sleeps on our bed I think I better get some soon!
  10. Thanks guys. I'll check them out and start spending!
  11. I recently decided that I would like to start a grooming business (I have done it before, working for others) and given my current location I will have to get everything online. I already have a hydro bath and just wanted some suggestions from those in the know for websites that have good quality equipment at reasonable prices? Also, in particular I would like advice on what dryer to buy. I'll be doing this from home so would need something as quiet as possible buy still powerful enough to do a good job. TIA Dobes
  12. I live in the NT and Palmerston is very strict about how many dogs you are allowed to keep. I was told to not even bother applying for a permit to keep more than 2 dogs because it wouldn't be approved. It must depend on who you're mates with as I've been told by a couple of people that they got their permit with no problems and no 'exceptional circumstances' having to be given but they are mates with someone on the council or a ranger
  13. Mine all do it too, especially the Dobe and the Bulldog.
  14. I've used it in the past and I think it's great. The only reason I stopped buying it was because it was only available through PP and Co. I can now get it from The Natural Pet Food Co but to get it to Darwin will cost $35 postage on top of the cost of the food, which is still very expensive. As soon as I get out of Darwin I'll be going back to it.
  15. Simi is frightened of the garbage bags when they are being thrashed about trying to get some air into them before lining the bin with them. Barkley is scared of soft drink! If you have a glass or can of Coke etc he won't go anywhere near it and will take off if you try and take it towards him. He is also terrified of men, the only exceptions being my husband and my father (who he has only seen a handful of times in his whole life). Flash is scared of nothing and no one :D
  16. I get it all the time! I have a Dobermann, JRT, small fluffy x and a Bulldog. All very different in temp and looks :)
  17. It's been a while since I've been in here but thought I'd post an update picture of Miss Simi. She is now 5 months old and around 15kg, definitely not a baby anymore! She is still the most precious little angel and we love her so much :D
  18. For the record, I started the thread to get others opinions on this training and also because the lady I spoke too seemed very rigid about what I needed to do to 'fix' my dog. She basically told me that if I did what she said, with the equipment (halti) she recommends then I was guaranteed 100% that the problem would be fixed. All this without even seeing my dog or what he is like around other dogs. She kept saying that once I have him under control on lead we could work with him around other dogs, despite me saying a number of times that he walks fine on lead, even if other dogs are around? There are 2 obedience clubs up here that I would love to attend but they are both too rigid in their methods and I'm not ok with that. One is extreme positive only and the other is ok but I disagree with some of the methods I saw on the couple of occasions I went. I'm not here to bag her but what she offered and promised to me, without any contact with me or my dog beyond the one phone call gave me reason to be a bit alarmed by her methods and opinions.
  19. I have 4 dogs so the age gap varies too. Eldest is 5, next one is 3, then 2 and youngest is almost 5 months old. The smaller dogs are the oldest two and I am aware that all four of them will be old at around the same time, which is sad but it's just the way it worked out for us. We won't be getting another one for quite some time!
  20. Thanks, I think she's pretty cute myself. She is a star everywhere we go as just about everyone wants to pat her and ask questions about what kind of dog she is. Acheron gets his share of the love too. We were at the vet yesterday and all the vet nurses were cooing over him :D
  21. I know this is not really the spot for it but the Dobe thread is very slow and there isn't a thread for Australasian Bosdogs (yet :) ) but I just wanted to say that I think my doggies are gorgeous! I can find something about almost any dog/breed that I like but I truly think I've got a couple of good lookers here  Pics are not great quality but the best of a bad bunch taken yesterday. Acheron Simi Playing Who else thinks their doggies are beautiful (share pics please, I love seeing everyones dogs)
  22. My husband looks like he and our Doberman belong together, they are both lean and fit looking. Truth be told though, he is much better suited to our Bulldog as he is not very active and prefers to sit/lay most of the time. He is in the Army and drives a tank so either of those 2 breeds would suit that I guess. He is very smitten with our JRT though, she is his dog and she wears a pink collar and lead and he kisses and cuddles her in public and talks to her in a baby voice and calls himself 'daddy' :D ETA I'm not sure for me. I'm female, early 30's, tattooed and some piercings, a natural brunette but often dye my hair red or violet.
  23. I went to the Darwin one and we had a nice time. Simi met lot's of new friends and we even met her uncle. There were a few 'fails' though. At one point I had to hold back my OH after a guy watched his dog poo, right where everyone was walking and the proceeded to walk off and leave it there! I would have offered him a bag but we were a fair distance from him and I thought the people standing right near him might have offered him one but they didn't . There were also a few dogs who looked like they could use a bath and clip, but most of them looked in good condition. Simi was exhausted when we left, all that meeting and greeting took it out of her!
  24. That's very sad and also very unlucky. I have had 4 Dobes during my life so far (2 were family pets when I was a child and 2 have been my own as an adult) and the 3 that are no longer with us all had to be PTS at the age of 9yrs. The 2 from my childhood ended up with arthritis in the hips/legs and had trouble getting up and down and my heart dog had Lymphoma and was PTS 4 years ago. He had no other health issues during his life. I currently own a 2 and a half yr old Dobe who is the picture of health and am hoping he continues to be. Sometimes its's just a case of bad luck. My sister had 2 boxers, different breeders and both suffered from allergies, both had surgery on legs and also had to have lumps removed constantly. These 2 dogs cost her a fortune in vet bills and now, although she loves the breed still she will never get another one even though I have explained that there are plenty of Boxers out there who have none of these problems and it was a case of bad luck or poor breeder choice.
  25. The 12 month booster occurs 12 months from the date of her last puppy shot, not when she is 12 months old :) ETA therefore she should be fully covered
