  1. I'm spending the night at home with the dogs. Thankfully none of mine completely freak out but the little fluffy sticks to me like glue and the other follow me around the house all night. I bet they'll still be setting them off well after the 11pm cut off time too and I have to start work at 6 in the morning
  2. There are always wandering dogs up here, mostly bull breeds and crosses of so there are plenty to take if anyone really wanted to. I must admit to being very concerned about one of my dogs in particular though as she is an entire female of a breed growing in popularity and is friendly to everyone. When we go out she is usually left inside the house just so I don't worry about her while at work.
  3. Just because you sacrifice something doesn't mean you feel negatively about it or are not receiving appropriate benefits/pleasures from having your pets. Completely agree with above. We all make sacrifices for many different reasons and having pets and being responsible means that sometimes you can't do everything you'd like to do. The love and enjoyment I get from my dogs makes up for those things though.
  4. Don't get me wrong, I'm not one for late nights and partying regardless of the dogs. It is still a sacrifice but its one I'm willing to make (obviously, or I wouldn't care what time we get home). Just like having kids means you have to make some sacrifices. They are worth it or I wouldn't do it.
  5. Our lives kind of revolve around the dogs. We don't go away much and if we are out with friends we always leave before everyone else as the dogs need to be fed or its late and I worry about them. We have a dog who has 'issues' and he makes things difficult most of the time, juggling them around because of him. It's just the way we live ATM and I guess we are used to it now, although hubby is becoming more frustrated with the situation and wants to make some changes.
  6. I love them all, but not equally. Simi has taken my heart in a big way. The 2 boys would die for me and although I love them vey much its not the same as what I feel for Simi. I feel guilty even saying it but its the truth :/
  7. I have a litter of pups ATM so I can tell you from a breeders perspective (mine anyway) that I really liked the inquiries that gave a bit of insight into the person/family. I had a couple that were fantastic and told me a little about themselves and their current/past pets and even better were the ones who sounded like they had done some research and knew a little about the breed. I also had a few one liners, usually 'Have you got any pups left?' Or one couple who told me that they were only interested if they had first choice of all pups. Just be friendly and give a bit of info about yourself and ask for further info about pups :)
  8. I'm feeding Simi and her pups on K9 Natural and it looks very similar to that. I'd buy the Aussie made one but no where up here sells it so it would cost more for postage. Ill stick to the K9 Natural for now as I can get it from Petbarn :)
  9. In my area we have to get a permit for 3 dogs but its rarely approved! There is a application fee (non refundable) and you have to have 'exceptional circumstances' to be approved. They carried on about Palmerston having a 'dog epidemic' and this was their way of controlling it. I suggested they crack down on all the roaming dogs and people who walk dogs off lead all over the place and there wouldn't be as many issues.
  10. My adult dogs only get one meal a day and they always do 2 poos every day, I wish they only did one! This has been happening their whole lives, no matter which brand of food they are eating. It's the consistency and size of poop that can vary :) I'm raising a litter of pups ATM and they get VIP grain free and chicken mince every day and are all doing well so far (they are 4 weeks old)
  11. My bitches breeder and the breeder of my bitches dam have visited and both agree that there is something about this girl (although they also think the whole litter is amazing)
  12. As chance would have it I just received an email from a lady who would like to meet my bitch and learn more about the breed. From the info she gave in the email they sound like a great family (they already own a PB Beagle and 2PB Devon Rex cats), have 4 kids (from 6-16). She mentioned that she is doing research on what breed would fit their lifestyle and wanted to meet my dogs if I'd allow it. I've told her she is welcome to come for a visit and a chat and we'll see what happens from there. If I insisted that I keep her it wouldn't cause any major problems with my husband :)
  13. As some of you know, I have a litter of pups ATM and I have a bit of a dilemma and want some opinions. My girl had 9 beautiful puppies and the agreement between my husband and myself was that my sister would be taking the pick of this litter and I would be keeping the pick from the next litter. My sister has chosen.her puppy (with my assistance) and all other pups have deposits on them except for a gorgeous female pup. This pup was initially chosen by a family but before they paid a deposit they advised that they could no longer take the puppy at this time. By this stage she had really taken my (and everyone who saw her) eye. She is very striking to look at is turning into a lovely girl. I told my husband I wanted to keep her but he wants to wait until next litter still. So a few days ago a friend asked to visit puppies and mentioned that they would be interested in one. As I know them and they already have a dog of his breed I agreed and they fell in love with her and wanted to take her. Then I received a message from her last night and they have to find a new house to rent in the next 6 weeks as the owners have decided they want to move back into the house asap and they have a wedding to plan and pay for in the next few months so will be not able to take her. So by now I'm thinking that this puppy is meant to stay here with us. I do have other people on my waiting list I could contact but I have such a strong feeling that she should be with us! Just to add, my husband is away ATM and won't be home for another 3 weeks and our contact is sporadic and i'm not guaranteed to be able to talk to him again until he comes home.
  14. My Doberman and JRT (smooth) shed a lot. Hair everywhere! I have a small fluffy who doesn't shed at all but he gets clipped every 6 weeks or so. I don't brush him in between grooms but they all get bathed weekly (I am a groomer so can do it all myself). My Bulldog doesn't shed too badly and that's just another reason why ill be sticking with that breed from now on.
  15. Friends of ours took in a p/b Doberman puppy that was to be PTS for being the runt of a litter. Husband's brother was the vet who got permission from the breeder to give him a go. Well, that Dobe boy grew to be exactly the same as the ones you describe. When our friends had their babies, he was the perfect nanny dog. As the children grew he was just as you say.... patient, tolerant & gentle. Totally trustworthy & helpful in being a 'walking' instructor. He lived to a good old age & helped his 'kids' into their teenage years, too. Some dogs truly deserve the title.... Best Dog. He did. It's funny you say that. When Sarge died we had him cremated and I received a call from the crematorium asking what I'd like on the box containing his ashes. I managed to blubber through my tears that all it had to say was Best Boy, because that's what he was and thats what everyone else said about him :)
  16. Doberman. I grew up with them and they always looked after me and were endlessly patient. My own children grew up with one too and often used him to help balance while learning to stand and walk. He was gentle and tolerant and always a gentleman. I was quite firm with him as a pup and he always seemed grown up (never really behaved like a puppy, even when he was one) and I trusted him like no other dog I've met.
  17. Looks like an old show on repeat. I remember reading about it on DOL and not knowing what to say. What a horrific situation and I feel so much for her.
  18. That's so funny. I have a litter here and one do the puppy buyers has named her boy Mr Atticus!
  19. My previous Doberman had an instant dislike of 2 different people that I can remember. The first was when he was 6 months old and we had a few of my husbands friends over. All was well and Sarge was happy and friendly with them all when another friend turned up (he is aboriginal, others were not). Sarge growled at him the entire time he was there and didn't take his eyes off him the entire time. I actually had to hang on to his collar to keep him by my side as he was very unhappy. Second time was years later and we lived in Sydney. We used to stand out the front of our house talking to the neighbours and there was this young kid (teenager) that used to hang around occasionally. Sarge hated him with a passion and the kid couldn't even approach the fence or Sarge would go ballistic. This kid turned out to be as dodgy as hell so I guess he was a good judge of character.
  20. I feed VIP Grain Free from Woolworths (first time I've ever fed supermarket food) and K9 Natural. I started my bulldog on this during her pregnancy as she became very fussy and I was trying everything out. She happily ate both foods and is continuing to do so now pups are 11 days old. She looks great ad pups are all big, shiny and healthy. All 9 are being fed solely by her and everyone is doing so well I figure why change?
  21. I currently have bloody discharge on my Donna cover and in my bed thanks to Simi. She has no desire to sleep with her puppies when my bed is so much more comfortable. I washed it after the first day but have now given up and will wait till it stops before washing it again :)
  22. Went to vet today. He said that he thinks it could be hormone related and prescribed some ointment to put on it. He did a skin scraping to rule out mites/mange and it was clear so I'll see how she goes over next few days. Just in case I will not give her anything containing beef for a while too. Yes Hankdog, bulldog puppies are awesome and oh so cute :)
  23. I'm avoiding beef for the time being and see how she goes. I've washed her face and she seems to have gotten through the worst of it. If she is still scratching tomorrow ill take her to vet.
  24. I have a bull breed bitch with 8 day old pups and since giving birth she has had severe itching around her face. She has never had allergies before and this is intense and awful. It has not been everyday and I think I have narrowed it down to beef. I didn't give her any for the last day and a half and she stopped scratching so bad but gave her beef hearts for dinner tonight and within an hour she has cut her face to pieces scratching at it. She has dry kibble that is lamb based and also eats plenty of raw chicken and doesn't seem to bother her. Is it possible that she could have developed this seemingly overnight? Is it likely to be related to pregnancy hormones?
  25. I see this a lot on the FB sites. I always tell people to take the dog to the pound as I know I would be searching frantically if it were my lost dog and the pound and vets are the first places I would be looking. I would be furious if someone kept my dog for who knows how long because they felt bad about it going to the pound. There are always people offering to 'look after' the dog until owner is found and I have to wonder how hard they would be searching for the owner. (Not saying that's what you are doing, but that it happens regularly)
