I tend not to comment on much here on DOL but I enjoy your posts very much. The way you write draws pictures in peoples minds and that is a talent that not everyone has. Now back on topic how is your spotty family today? -

When Are You Classified A Crazy Dog Owner....
sebastion 2 replied to Beaglelover:)'s topic in General Dog Discussion
When you take the day off without pay and drive 7 hours to another state, stay the night and pick up a rescue dog then drive 7 hours home. Then realising 3 months later that you missed your wedding anniversary and you have only been married for 3 years. But at least you spent tha night in a motel. -
Lovely pic but there was no way known I could decipher that until someone said it was scottish then it was easy

I 100% relate to what you are saying here. I often talk to my kids about how our dogs lived when I was their age. Sandy would be tied up when mum went to work and Id let her off when I got home from school, she would take off at a million miles an hour to who knows where!. No fences or leads, no obedience school or formal socialising. Sometimes she would come home with other dogs and we thought it was great! You are right pers, we knew which dogs we could pat and which ones to give space just from seeing them be dogs. You'd go to the local park and there would always be a handful of unknown dogs hanging around being dogs, it was normal, we weren't scared of them. The very tall ladder up to the steep metal slippery dip that landed you in a pile of gravel after burning your legs all the way down was more frightening My kids laugh and can't imagine what it would be like to have dogs around 'unattended'. Dog behaviour , like a lot of human behaviour today seems to have been 'sanitised' .. so we don't see dogs doing all of which they are capable - therefore succeeding generations do not know what to look out for/manage. This is so very true ;) One of the things I have loved about rescue is watching and learning about group dynamics with a wide cross section of dogs, the joy of seeing how the established group not only interact with each other but also how they treat newcomers. I have watched them teach manners to the unruly, nurture & protect pups, weak or sick dogs and dicipline the over the top dogs. I imagine when I was a kid these natural dog behaviours were given the freedom to work their magic in the neighbourhood, resulting in more balanced animals that co existed with people more easily. What they said

I haven't seen a lot of Ceaser but I have read some of his books and seen some clips. But like all things in life I think moderation is the key add into that some commonsense. which I am the first to admit is sadly lacking in todays society. I have found some of his techniques useful with our rescue dogs but I am most definately not impressed with his harsher techniques. I also think that not all dogs respond to that same treatment either. -
Rocky is a master tail wagger, clearing coffee tables is his speciality. When we first got him his tail bled from wagging so much and hitting walls and doors jambs. He can't understand why when he approaches our guests that they turn their back on him ...the poor bugger doesn't realise that his tail wags so hard that it hurts nor that he is so large (mastiff x )and that for our male visitors his tail is definately at the wrong height LOL. My brother thinks that his tail should be registerd as a lethal weapon He wags his tail even when lying on the lounge floor and you whisper his name.

Neither of our boys sleep on our bed they both have beds beside ours. One snores and the other one dreams and barks in his sleep. They don't like to be on the bed even with an invite.

I would probably be one of those dickheads! Yes I own a Bullmastiff x that I rescued from a shelter Do I trust him? NO HE IS A DOG! They are never to be trusted completely, I have no idea of his background except to say that he had no training and that has (and still is) being addressed. Do I love him absolutely!!!Yes I even love the drool except perhaps when I am walking out the door to go to dinner As others have said before me any dog is dangerous particularly in the hands of the uneducated. I don't believe that BSL will solve anything imo education is the way to go. Am I offended no I have been called a dickhead before and probably will again we are all intitled to our opinion and to try and get said opinion across. :D ETA I have only been bitten twice by 2 different dogs(as a child) and they were both working cattle dogs. And both times I had been told not to go near the dog as it would bite.
