We recieved a puppy from a breeder who is not part of the ankc but is part of their own breeds association. We chose this breed as they claim that they breed a healthier form of the purebred we were looking at getting to begin with and thought thay would be better suited for our tropical climate. Anyway after recieving him all seemed to be fine until he lied down on the lounge floor next to our 10 yr old daughter who thought he was sleeping but he had actually just died this was only 8 days after we had picked him up. We contacted the breeder and informed them what had happened they didn't seem to worried and all they had to say was did we get an autopsy. We then later contacted them after we had gotten over the initial shock and asked if we needed an autopsy as we didn't want to cut up our beautiful pup, they said it was required if there were to be any chance of compensation he had cost us 2000 including the freight so we decided to have the autopsy done. The result came back showing no abnormalities but also no signs of poisoning or suffocation which the breeder accused our daughter of. The vet however narrowed it down to heart muscle failure, congenital or inherited brain disease, sudden death toxins( highly unlikely as they are not common) or lysosomal storage disease which is documented in th origin of this breed. What we are asking is what should happen in this situation the breeder never suggested or offered anything they only accused our daughter of his death and swore and abused my wife when she contacted them by phone. We have never recieved any breed certificates, vaccination reports or health checks for him either which we were told would be forwarded to us they also said who carried out their vet checks but we can't find the vet anywhere and they won't provide us any contact details for them so we could forward our autopsy report on to them or to check they even exist. Any help or recommendation would be much appreciated wheter in our favour or in the favour of the breeder as this is a grey area and we couldn't find any info on the matter. By the way we also offered the breeder that we would pay all vet bills, vaccinations and transport if they would provide us with a pup out of their next litter. Sorry for th length of this post just trying to get all the facts in.
