  1. I am sure there are many of you who do this on DOL and was hoping to get some tips! I would like to start bike riding with my dog as a bit of extra exercise but also to mix things up a bit with what we already do. - What type of leash do you use when riding? - What is the best way of tethering the dog to you/bike? I would really like to do this but a bit worried that I'll run over my own dog or something. Lol. He is pretty good with walking on leash, but just wondered what precautions people take when riding with a dog? Thanks!
  2. Very good to know. Thanks! I've come across a few websites but was wondering if anyone has a preference for a place to buy online?
  3. Name: Codi DOB: 10/10/2009 Just thought I'd (finally) start a thread to share photos of my boy.
  4. Thanks heaps for that! I'll look into the bottles! I was being super lazy and didn't want to have to mix shampoo. Lol. Still don't know what products to splurge my pay on though!
  5. I bring food with me to the park if I am working on recall, or any other form of training. In fact, quite a few others who go to my park do this also. My dog never "begs" from anyone else and if another dog does come up to me the owners usually just laugh it off and say my food must smell better.
  6. I would mix it in so that it's a gradual transition. Perhaps time it so that you can finish off the puppy stuff you've got- so that it doesn't go to waste. Day 1: 3/4 Puppy, 1/4 Adult Day 2: 1/2 Puppy, 1/2 Adult Day 3: 3/4 Puppy, 1/4 Adult Day 4: Adult only You can probably stretch it out even longer if your puppy has a super sensitive stomach. When I switched over we were still using the same brand so i found using the above formula my dog was fine. Hope this helps.
  7. Hi all, I know there was a similar thread earlier about what people use on their dogs... However, I wanted to know more about these 2 brands specifically. I've been doing a bit of research because I want to try out some new stuff with my dog and I get paid next week. Hehehe. I've noticed with some brands (such as Plush Puppy) you have to dilute the solution. Does anyone know whether this is the case with either Isle of Dogs or Chris Christensen? I am sort of after something convenient and easy to use out of the bottle. I don't have a bathtub or anything and have to shower my dog in the shower (which is open and have no door) so anything that it's easy and straight forward would be great! Do you have a preference between the 2 brands? In particular, does anyone have any experience with their white shampoos? Also does anyone know any other products equivalent to CC Show Off? I would really like to keep something like that on hand for in between baths! Any help would be great!
  8. I am glad it kind of all worked out. At least it's not any of the things you thought initially- and that it was set off due to the people working on the roof! I have my own story of neighbour complaining a few years ago. When I was in high school, we had a neighbour who used to complain about my Cavalier. I don't know how, but he got our number and would ring our house as soon as she barked at night- even if it was only for 30 seconds. The he would scream over the fence at me if I had friends over on the weekend and we were in the pool making noise. It was just ridiculous. One day I came home early due to a study period, and saw my dog barking at the fence outside. I called her to get inside because I was worried my neighbour would complain. I then see him at the back fence, provoking her by throwing rocks and banging on the fence with a hammer! A few days later a person from the council arrived to tell me a neighbour had put in a formal complaint about my barking dog. I was so angry because it was actually him who was harassing us, and aggravating our dog to bark! I ended up speaking to all my neighbours, who agreed they barely hear my dog. I then sent off a letter to the council explaining my situation and what he had been doing to us! Let's just say that we didn't get another late night phone call, or any complaints from him ever again.
  9. Our dog is kept inside all the time- mainly because when he was a puppy we figured out that he liked trying to eat the pebbles that's part of the landscaping in our backyard. We didn't want to risk it so he is kept downstairs in our house. When we are home he has the whole house to himself and does whatever he wants. When it's really hot and we are at work, we actually put the aircon on timer- so that it comes on after a certain time for him incase it gets too hot during the day.
  10. 1. No I didn't wash my JS this morning nor do I only keep him inside. He just stays nice and clean and dirt falls off because he has a "teflon coat". 2. And no, I also don't spend hours every day brushing him. 3. He is not a mini Samoyed.
  11. I am also curious on what other people use. I have tried Aloveen, and find it a bit ordinary. The only product I do like is their conditioner- which I use on my Japanese Spitz to make him smell a bit nicer if he hadn't had a bath for a while. I have tried Fidos (the purple one) and that was quite good and smelt ok as well... Curious to know whether "groomers" products out there and more pro stuff sold at shows etc would be better to use on my white dog?
  12. Some photos I took of my friend's dogs: And my little fluffball:
  13. Here are so of my photos of Codi. I might take more tomorrow if the weather is good. He's getting a bath tonight so he will be nice and fluffy. Hehe.
  14. Our puppy loves Royal Canin. It was recommended by our vet- we bought our first lot from Petbarn but then discovered that it's different to the vet formula. We now buy it from our vet. Codi really likes it.
  15. Aw, thanks! He is like a teddy bear. I love looking at his cute little face. Lol.
  16. If I catch my dog doing something naughty, I will tell him "uh ah" or "no". He will back away and give me the "but I didn't do anything face". Example below. Lol. BEFORE AFTER "I'm sorry! I didn't do it! The chair fell in my mouth!"
  17. Gees, reading what you have posted- Codi ticked quite a few things off that list too! Some I know I have been wanting to work on- but others I didn't really think was "bad"?
  18. Haha, I have a 7kg fluff of a guard dog. :p When sleeping- no matter how deep asleep he is- if he hears something outside, he will sit up (and you see his ears twitch) and if it's something out of the ordinary he will go and investigate and bark for me.
  19. I think this purely depends on your situation and how your house is set up. Codi is kept in a penned area with access to a sleeping area and a toilet area. When we are home he is given free run in the house- but he knows to go to the toilet area when he needs to eliminate. We bought a puppy toilet for him to do this. We live in a house where the bedrooms are downstairs and therefore there's no easy access to the backyard. We thought about leaving him in the backyard but it is landscaped with pebbles and we found out quite early on that he would try and put this in his mouth. It worked out to be safer to have him inside.
  20. There are too many things to name! 1. Codi sucks on his bunny rabbit toy. My breeder actually saw a photo and apparently his mum and brother does the same thing to blankets. It's very cute and so funny. Took me awhile to figure out what he was actually doing as I've never had a dog that does this. 2. He will bark at the TV when he sees something "interesting" or "doesn't like". Sometimes it's when he sees other animals. He barks at the cadbury ad with the dancing cow and he barked when we were watching Reaper last night when one of the demons appeared on screen. Lol. 3. "The poo dance"- This cracked us up when we first got him home so much that we named it the poo dance. Lol. After he sniffs around for a place to poo- instead of standing still and doing his business, he would continue to spin around. Haha.

    Kongs

There so great "menus" on the Kong website! Usually I put mince in it and freeze it. Otherwise depending on what I have in the house- Codi also loves mushed banana with yoghurt or rice and chicken. I always freeze it to make it last longer though. I prep it the night before and then give it to him in the morning before I leave for work. Oh and we have a puzzle ball and we put half his breakfast kibble in that. He has a great time rolling it around to get the food out. Hope this helps.
  22. Hehe maybe it's a JS thing- Codi loves toilet paper too. Lol. Here's the evidence: (complete with the "I didn't do anything face")
  23. It's really good to know that there are people out there who are being more on the "careful" side like me. I've never had to do this with a pup before... Codi just seems more curious and a lot more observant about things. I wish I had more of a backyard so that he has more space to run around when we're not home. We make up for it by taking him on 2 walks a day though. Thank you Bub. A leap of faith is exactly what it is. Lol. I think I still have a lot more "trusting" to do but maybe he's getting there. He's definitely a lot more well behaved the last couple of months. Our trainer did tell us that 8-9 months will be his naughty age so we'll see how it goes... I might try and have another nap this afternoon and see how he reacts.
