  1. Thanks, everybody. I have given all the info to my parents. :)
  2. My parents (semi-active early 70's) have just lost their 11 yr old whippet to cancer and in a few weeks time, are very interested in giving a rescue pup/dog a home. They have a large secure back yard in Mildura and will be looking for a small to medium sized pup (but will consider young dog). They would prefer a dog who will be a good watch dog, but not a yapper, so to speak. They have a fondness for foxies/foxy crosses. Parents are pensioners but have very good relationship with the local vet, who will attest to their dedication in providing a great home. They are aware of Mildura Pound and will be looking there for a suitable dog when they feel ready...but this post is just a heads up, in case there is a dog elsewhere that will suit them. Prefer in Vic or SA, as cost is an issue, being pensioners. Thanks. :)
  3. Lol...she is actually a very sweet girl who loves meeting people. :)
  4. Undisputed Queen of the house! :)
  5. Can someone please add my two? Thanks. Pekingese: Edwina and Lyle.
  6. I am amazed at their energy...it's great watching them be dogs!
  7. Thanks! Edwina has just the sweetest nature and she is all we could hope for in a lovely little house dog. She is housetrained, not a barker and is so funny when she is playing with her toy mice. We love her so much that we snapped up the offer of another Peke from the same kennel. Lyle is a cream colour and while more reserved than Edwina, is also very sweet and loves to play. He is starting to get a hit rate of about 90% on newspaper when going to the toilet so he is settling in quickly....and Edwina adores him!
  8. Our little Edwina loves to have a good run in our backyard every day, but with having a full coat and it being damp outside a lot of the time, her coat was getting damp and prone to matting easily, so we got her clipped today. Here she is having a rest inside after a frolic out in the yard...she was bopping about madly and was totally pooped when she came inside.
  9. Thanks so much! Here is Edwina and her mouse!
  10. She is such a happy little button!
  11. I just shook my head at the VERY RARE sign. The Wire Haired Foxies (all boys) were about $900 each...there was a young woman there thinking about purchasing two of them. I took great pleasure in saying that I paid just a little more for a purebred dog (another breed) from a reputable, registered breeder and not a pet shop.
  12. Casowner, the shop was right in the city.
  13. Our little Edwina was desexed early in the week and has been worrying us with her behaviour, but she is pretty much back to normal today...so we thought we would give her her first ride in her new pet stroller...she likes!!
  14. I very rarely go into pet shops, but today I did go into one. They had puppies in there...the usual assortment of cavoodles, moodles, etc...and also 4 purebred Wire Haired Fox Terrier pups and also 2 Beagle pups. There was a sign up stating that some VERY RARE pups were coming in soon - Pug x French Bulldog....sigh!
  15. Thanks, Nekhbet. The ear flopping down and feeling weird makes sense. She ate normally last night with bowl on the floor and polished her dinner off. There has been no more vomiting. When I put her outside to go to the toilet this morning, she immediately did the bolt, circled and then weed...but it was less circling this time and she got down to business much more quickly than yesterday, so hopefully she is on the improve. She is sitting at my feet and looking up at me as I type...such a sweet girl. Thanks for the info re Rimadyl - I am looking into another option for her.
  16. Our 7 month old Pekingese girl was desexed on Tuesday. She was microchipped at the same time (inside of ear tattooed for microchip). Good recovery from anaesthetic and operation. Vet gave us Rimadyl tabs for pain. On coming home, we put her down on the floor and she spun in a circle and opened her bowels. Then settled down for the night. I stayed home with her the next day so that I could observe for any post op problems, etc. She has been bright and alert, but not her usually boppy self - but put that down to the fact that she has had surgery and would not be feeling too comfortable. Appetite good throughout, but when you put her bowl down on the floor she would go up to it with interest, but when she put her head down to eat, she would suddenly pull back, bolt off and run in a few circles and then scratch at her ear - always the tattooed one (sometimes associated with licking paw that she was scratching with). There has been no yelping and very little whimpering. However, if you held onto her and held the bowl up to her, then she would happily eat everything in front of her. Taken outside for toileting regularly - no problems with same, but still with the bolting off, circling and then settling down to toilet. Tattooed ear is fine, no ear mites in ears, desexing site fine - no redness, tenderness or swelling. She had a small vomit over night and a tiny one again this morning but has still retained her appetite. Of course, I contacted the surgery and took her in for a checkup. Of course, when I put her on the floor there was no bolting or circling - they love to make liars out of you, lol. No temperature, ears fine, no reaction to gentle palpation to abdomen. Vet thinks could be just sooky or there could be an internal stitch pulling a bit. She has had another antibiotic injection (just in case) and some more Rimadyl tabs. In respect to the holding her and feeding her with bowl held up to her - I want that to be very much a temporary thing. She is a dog and I want to treat her like one, not a baby, lol...but am pandering to it at the moment if it means she is comfortable enough to eat. Anyone else had a similar response post desexing or other surgery?
  17. Panzer, I found a great Peke breeder here on Dogzonline. Edwina was advertised just recently and I pounced!! She continues to be just a gem for us. We took her out with us in the car today and she just couldn't have been better. She is so quiet at night and is housetrained already so it has been pretty much a seamless transition. A slightly picky eater but we are working out her quirks in this regard. We think she is ace.
