Ohmigosh Sammie, Asti is just the CUTEST doglet in the world! Ssh! Don't tell Roo! Well, one of anyway The squinched up eyes! The upturned nose! The wrinkles! The ears! I could seriously just squeeze her...except maybe she may not like that...and you might think I was a a bit strange... Ahem. Anyway, great photos KTB, your doglets make me laugh Roo often does her Little Orphan Annie impression all curled up on the grass outside. The Ginormous Ears of Kelpieness are quite large in that photo of Hoover- are you sure that's not Hoover in Muppet version? Nice to see Elborino smiley Roo looks mournful in her photos too ;) Glad to see that Elbie's nose is useful for balancing treats I can't get anything to balance on Roo's. We did try with Rope (yes capitalised because that was it's name :D), but it didn't quite work. Wuffles, great contrast of the bright colours of the graffitti against the gorgeous Ava :D Max #1, glad Max is doing okay. I've actually tried to get Roo up on the couch (yes, I know, naughty), but she shows no interest. Now my bed on the other hand, if that was in the loungeroom.... ;) -

Doggy play date? More like doggy babysitter!!! I'm sure there was a similar thread on DOL a little while ago. As to that other thread about groceries etc (which I haven't read, but I'll put my 5c worth in anyway) I grew up on a farm and we had a vegie garden and chooks for eggs etc. However, my mum was the biggest softie around- all stray/injured animals ended up at our place and everything was named, and you can't eat something with a name! So, we would give our excess roosters to my uncle to kill/eat, we had "meat" sheep (who we didn't associate with) and "pet" sheep (I once bottle raised 6 at the one time when I was 16), and our cow Karah would have calves that would be sent to sale (Mum was always proud of the high price they would get, if a little sad about the inevitable). Mum would have spent just as much money (more likely more!) on feeding the animals as feeding us! Dad is a softie too, but a realistic softie. He hated having to put down our old horse Apache but knew it was the best thing to do (he cried afterwards). Mum was never happy with the way Dad would cut up chops (they wouldn't fit under the grill, and of course they had way too much fat on them- little piglets!) so she bought most of our meat at the butcher anyway Ruby's whale (even though he is technically an orca ) is missing his tail and one flipper. The end of his tail (or where his tail would be) is getting manky from being chewed too ETA Hope Max and James are feeling better tonight -

Hee! Loved how Hoover and Elbie both stopped completely when your neighbours dogs were going bananas, then got back into it! Is that kennel an Aldi one? It looks like the one Roo has. Maybe I should have put the trampoline bed INSIDE it, instead of putting it under Ruby's gazebo/palace for her to lounge on I used the old sand in Roo's clamshell today to fill in the holes in the yard and put two new bags of sand in- Roo immediately jumped in a dug away! So the key here people is to buy new sand*. Sand that is 6 months old is so yesterday according to my black monster * I say this now. Who knows what I will come home to tomorrow afternoon -

Hee! You girlies make me laugh I've been giggling away reading your posts. Now to catch up and chime in As to lamb flaps, another reason I stopped giving them to Roo was she kept inhaling them and giving me an absolute heart attack! Seriously- she would nom on it for a little while, then swallow, choke, cough it up, lather rinse repeat. So, I'm sticking to shanks. But after that one time I bought shanks at Woolies that were cut almost in half (note to all- don't buy them for dogs) and she swallowed half without chewing it, I sit with her and put her lead on just in case I need to grab her quickly. Other times I have given her the bones frozen- you'd think that would slow down how fast she demolishes them though, wouldn't you? Uhhh, no. By the time Ruby has finished with the bone, there is really not much of it left, and what is left I throw away just in case. Yes. I'm a nervous dog mother. I do, however, leave her with a Kong in the morning when I go to work, but I doubt it lasts her much longer than 10 mins to eat it and toss it aside. I am intruiged by those on DOL who say their dog will take hours to lick things out of their Kong- not Labradors obviously! I slacked off walking Roo in the holidays- partly because I wasn't home much, and partly because it was too hot towards the end anyway, and she had almost daily playdates with next door's doglet. Since today was much cooler though, I took her for a walk this morning around the block, and a long walk tonight. She has now taken herself off to bed- my bed that is! Ruby does not sleep on my bed as a rule though (the cat would not be impressed). Feeding BARF/raw food is just not an option for me- I don't have the time, and Ruby is doing really well on the diet I give her anyway- RC biscuits with additives a few times a week like sardines, bones, chopped beef or lamb etc plus a bit of Nature's Gift tinned food in her Kong. Her coat is really shiny and she loves her food. I did give in and buy her another 3kg bag of RC Lab junior though. Shame the RC Lab adult biscuits are so big- she did eat them, but she prefers the puppy biscuits. Anyway, we'll how she goes. I had a semi argument with the shop assistant at Petbarn the other day- she was saying how Ruby should be on puppy biscuits til she is 15 months old, how all their seminars tell them so etc. I just said, well it's hard to know what to do when there are some breeders who put them on adult food at less than 6 months, and in any case, they can't even agree on which food is best. Wuffles, your wedding is getting very close! Might have to bite the bullet and join Facebook just so I can see the pics :p -

I have tried lamb flaps, but there seems to be more fat than meat, which is why I prefer to give her lamb shanks. The bone dilemma is ongoing I'd like to give her other types, but not sure what to try. The bags of "dog bones" at the supermarket are expensive ($9 for scraps essentially) and a bit of a lucky dip MDTL sent her home last week with a bone she'd been munching on- it had enough meat to keep her interested, but was big enough that she couldn't actually break any off and be left alone with it. Will have to email her and ask. I also give Roo turkey wings which she loves (the 'drumstick' end). -

To be honest, I wasn't thinking about getting bitten, and unlike the mouse episode a few months ago (when Ruby ate a dead mouse and I tried to get her to throw it up bc I wasn't sure if it had been poisoned or not. It hadn't, but I couldn't make her throw up and my hand got chewed on enough to hurt! Ahh the joys of visiting my brother's farm...), she didn't try to bite down on my hand. I guess she knew I was helping her. I'm just glad I was around when it happened. Makes me glad I don't leave any bits of bone laying around and I watch Roo when she has a shank bone. Can't do much about it though when you're at someone else's house though -

For the most spoilt Labrador in the world, I use a combination of (but not all at once!) cabanossi, cheese, cocktail frankfurts (cooked in microwave to be 'smellier'), shredded ham, BBQ chicken, liver treats, devon and those 4 Legs brand balls. Not Chunkers though- stinky! God knows what the girl at the deli counter at the supermarket here thought! Needless to say, Miss Roo would not be given much other food on dog school days -

Cleo, that's a great photo Glad to hear all your Canberrans had a good day back at "school" :D Kylie, I'm glad Echo is digging in his clamshell- Ruby still prefers to dig in the yard I bought 2 new bags of sand at Bunnings yesterday since most of the original 2 bags worth of sand I put in Roo's clamshell seems to have vanished/blown away/ disintegrated, along with a new clamshell. Haven't put then in the yard yet though since last night we went to stay with my brother. We had a family dinner for my older sister's birthday in town at a fancy restaurant (you know it's fancy when you can only choose from 4 things on the menu ) last night. We had just ordered our starters when the power went out during a storm. It became very hot and stuffy very quick, but there was a battery light still on, so we could see a bit. Then before our mains came out, THAT went out too, so we were sitting in the dark for most of the night! The staff coped very well though, especially with no exhaust fan so the kitchen was full of smoke and the detector kept going off! The power eventually came back on just before we had dessert, so we couldn't skip out without paying ;) Roo had a great time at Mama Dog's house but she did give me a scare today She had been munching on an old bone she found when it became lodged in the roof of her mouth! I was walking past her to put stuff in the car and she was trying to scratch at her muzzle. I thought she must have had an ant or something, but put my hand in her mouth to check and couldn't find anything. I watched her do it again, so put my hand in again and felt the bone on the roof of her mouth. It seemed like it took me ages to get it out! I had just started to panic and to call out to my niece to get her mum when I managed to get it unstuck. Not fun ;) Thankfully Ruby is fine. I gave her a bath when we came home because she'd had a lovely time at my brother's farm playing in the stinky puddles and in the rain ;) Hope you've all had a great weekend- I did! -
Oh she's gorgeous Gayle! I'm sure she'll fit right in I've decided that Aussies are on my doggie wishlist, and I'm trying to convince my best friend that she needs one too!

Oh wizzle! That's fantastic news! I'm so happy for you and Mr Wizzle...as I was when you first announced WW of course, but since you secretly wanted a girl, and she is...well, you know what I mean! Also, I the name and the spelling. That's actually on my "list" if ever my brothers find a husband for me In news here, Roo's best dog friend next door completed the 'Tunnel of Love' under the fence and ended up in my backyard tonight! The two of them had been playing Bitey Face under the fence after Roo had finished her lamb shank, and I went off down the back to do poo patrol. I looked up, and he was more than 3/4 of the way under the fence, then he was in my yard! Of course the two crazy doglets then went mad chasing each other around the yard I tried to call out to my NDN, but they must have been in another part of their house. So I let them wrestle/play for 15 mins or so, then took him next door. Methinks the tunnel may be filled in tomorrow. I don't mind them playing when I'm home and in the yard watching them, but I wouldn't want him in there when I was not home. Naughty Miss Roo has been continuing her excavating skills with more holes today. I'm hoping it's just because it's so hot and she's trying to get cool, not that she's punishing me for being back at work ;) Unfortunately, the RC Lab adult biscuits are too big to fall out of the Buster Cube easily, so I've been using Pal puppy biscuits (sssh!), but she's not interested I'm still not sure if I should have kept her on the RC Lab puppy biscuits a bit longer Might check out Petbarn tomorrow just in case... ETA Cool pics Rav! -
I had this the day before yesterday after I said how I was sleeping in the loungeroom with the ceiling fan and a pedestal fan going on me and the dog (in her crate) because it has been so hot. A- "You're STILL keeping that dog inside at night???! She's not a puppy anymore! She's a dog! That's cruel to keep her inside when it's so hot! She needs to be outside!" Then A turned to another colleague. "B, where does your dog sleep?" B- "Outside..." I just walked away. Why do I feel like I need to defend myself? A few months ago when I showed A a photo of Ruby's dog bed destruction, she said "I thought you were taking her to dog school? Doesn't look like she's learning anything..." Sigh.

  Evil Kwala is funny, but naughty ;) I have phobias about words...yes, words. Some words just squick me out. Slightly embarrassing, but speaking of the storms last night, I woke up at 4am thinking that someone was taking a photo of me. Uhhh, no. That was lightning. -

Naughty doglet tricks me! She goes for aggggggeeees without chewing/destroying anything or digging holes and this afternoon I come home to the dog bed ripped up and about 5 holes! Gah! My sisters dogs have destroyed 2 trampoline beds, or maybe 3. Plus I really should have taken a photo of one of their kennels. It's a wooden fancy one that has been EATEN by her doglets all around the entrance! Ummm, yeah, that would freak ME out.... -

Hee hee! [singsong voice] Hoover and Elbie have pointy snouts! [/singsong voice] :D I love that last photo of Elbie. You can almost hear him saying "Baroo?" And Barrister Hoover "We are not amused" Hot again here today. Sigh. It was actually hotter in my classroom than it was in the corridor this morning Trying to get work out of my kids (Test 1 of a 3 test placement spelling test) was not easy shall we say. Poor kidlets. I have been on the phone most of tonight and doglet was not amused at my inattention. She brought me the cloth I clean my glasses with (Ewww! All slobbery and stuff!), several empty toilet rolls that I leave for her to take (rather than the full rolls), the last full roll, the Zoom Groom brush from the bathroom (it's easier to brush the cat in the bathtub lol), empty juice jug, Nylabone and several soft toys from her collection. I managed to get her a chewy before the next phonecall to keep her occupied. Here is a then and now shot of Roo. The pic on the left was taken on my birthday in July when she was about 11 weeks old (plumb tuckered out), the pic on the right was taken a couple of weeks ago. Notice how in the first she is the same length as the width of the bed? And now she's longer than the bed! How time flies...I do miss her roly-poly puppy chubbiness I was too stressed out at the time to properly appreciate it -

I agree with your colour choice, Niques. I have always, always wanted a black Lab. We had a yellow Lab when I was younger (silly as a wheel, but lovely ). Roo's mama dog is yellow as you all know, and her papa dog is chocolate. I haven't met him though. I'm just yet to meet a nice looking chocolate Lab. *shrug* As to the Thread O'Toxicness, when I last read it, it was 15 pages...now it's more than 30! ;) Can't be bothered trying to catch up though. I'm having a quick look now though- go Niques! And Rav and Minxy! Hee! Evil Koala would be so proud! Roo has proven tonight that she may just be a Labrador after all- she put her head and foot in the bucket of water several times during her nightly playdate with her best dog friend. Now, if I could just get her to sit in her clam shell....however, I have sad news on that front. I was trying to tip out the water tonight when I heard an ominous crack! I feel the clam shell may not be with us much longer I might have to tip the sand out into the water side and fill the old sand side with water instead until I can buy a new one on the weekend. ETA Thread went boom! -

Hi everyone. Just a quick post as it's getting late and now that I'm back at work (boo!) I can't cope with late nights and cranky, hot and tired children who I must teach the next day. Clastic, I hope Mr Clastic is okay. I went to Sydney on the weekend for my older sister's birthday and dreamt about dogs both nights I was there! The first night I dreamt that their backyard turned into some kind of pseudo dog park, and all of your doggies were there! Well, okay, I can't remember all of the dream, but I know Kuma was in it, and Ava, and I'm sure all the others were around somewhere with my sister's dogs. So bizarre. My sister's doglets greeted me at their gate late on Saturday night when I got back from having dinner with my best friend and her boyfriend- they kind of blinked at me, realised who I was, then went back to bed! My sister couldn't believe they didn't bark at me, but they were pretty tired after my sister's birthday BBQ. They did make up for it the next morning by howling at a siren or something together though. ;) I met my first pug at her party too. It belonged to a friend of theirs and was an ex-showdog. He was pretty cute and laid back It's really hot here. Roo is asleep under the coffee table. I'm thinking of keeping her crate out in the loungeroom tonight with the ceiling fan on. No air conditioning here unfortunately PS KTB, while I'm not snake phobic, I'm not a fan of them at all, and really don't understand why someone would want one as a pet, but each to their own I suppose... Leroy is a pretty cool name for a snake though ;) -

Great vid, Koala The doglets looked like they were having a fantastic time! Didn't Elbie used to just hang out on the perimeter before? Great to see him getting amongst it all. It was great to see ALL the doglets playing and having fun together. Wish Roo and I could have come too :D Wuffles, I always forget how big Satch is until I see a video or picture of him with the other dogs :D It's really hot here today- it was supposed to get to 35 today, which is just ridiculously hot for this area. Where my brother lives it was supposed to get to 42, and their air conditioner wasn't working properly so my s-i-l said when I dropped my niece off today. It's supposed to be 40 up where Dad is, and no air conditioning there either :D I made some icebocks for Roo last night and gave her one earlier, but I think after a few licks, she left it and went back to her shady spot :D . I fill Ruby's clam shell with water (plus she has a basin of water as well), but she doesn't seem to actually get in it to cool off- what kind of a Labrador is she anyway???!! Jasper the cat has been stretched out under the coffee table all day while I was cutting and laminating (and cutting again) stuff to decorate my classroom ready for when school goes back (). Minxy, I am SO jealous that your cat and Kyojin can just lay next to each other like that. That would never happen here...but I've got to hope it will one day! I peeked out the window a little while ago and Roo was lounging on her trampoline bed, but it looked like she may have been nibbling on it again in a different corner The Vicks might have to be applied on all 4 corners... -

Cheeky? Moi? Surely not! :D Wizzle, I was laughing (and gasping in horror!) at your post and had to explain why to my niece. She couldn't believe it either! :D Naughty, naughty Miss G! How can such a small, sweet-looking doglet cause so much destruction?! Of course, I am well aware of how something so sweet looking can become such an unholy terror and create such a huge mess. I'm dreading going back to school in more ways than one- coming home to a mess is not fun. Have fun at the dog park tomorrow, Canberrans. The rest of us look forward to pics and videos so we can live vicariously through you -

Hee at Elbie I have my 11 year old niece staying with me for a few days, and I'm sure she had no idea what I was laughing at ;) Not The Suite Life of Zack and Cody that's for sure....it's only been 4 hours of the Disney Channel so far...ugh. Elbie's "spastic beg" makes me think of little kids in class who are busting to tell you the answer "Ooh! I know! Pick me! Pick me!" ETA In the 2 1/2 hours I was gone this morning getting my hair done (uhhh, my hair is really thick ) Ruby decided to 'remove' the tag on her trampoline bed...and it started to tear the cover. *Sigh* Her calmness tricked me! She's still a naughty chewing machine! :D I may have put some Vicks on it this afternoon to ahem discourage the chewing -

It was raining last night when I was toiletting Ruby before bed, so naturally, out came the towel to dry her off. Some success- she let me dry her with minimal attacking of the towel, then let me drape the towel over her like a blanket without trying to attack it/run away with it/ eat it etc :D . So naturally, I had to take 20 photos. Here is one Here is another Then she sooked on the bed And gave her best seal impersonation This is how I found Ruby's best dog friend this afternoon They're determined to dig a tunnel under the fence to each other They played bitey face for ages this afternoon under the fence -

Photos- there's lots ;) First we have old kibble/new kibble (and a peg for size reference and my camera case for no reason at all really) Then we have Ruby with her new toy- how could I go to Petbarn and NOT bring her back a toy? :D This is Penguin- on sale for $4. Any bets on how long he'll last? I'm thinking 2 days max Sorry it's blurry. I think it may have been the same one Hoover and Elbie destroyed at Christmas??? Here is Ruby on her new outside bed- if only she would lounge inside in her Very Expensive Dog Bed. Sigh. I'm working on it. Incidentally, outside trampoline bed was not cheap either This was how I found Ruby when I went to bed on Friday night -
