Please Send Good Thoughts For Mindy
lilli_star replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hope Mindy is doing better today. -
Yes, I agree. The first part of it was really disturbing, and to be honest, I almost changed the channel when I saw the "farm" and heard about the experiments But the bit I found interesting was how they changed through the selective (I guess that's how you would describe it) breeding. More so the physical changes. They are beautiful animals.

The segment about the Silver Foxes was really interesting. Also the segment about Betsy the Border Collie. Roo can fetch a few of her toys by name (Rabbit, Bubbles, Whale, Ball), but I doubt she could do it from a photo!

Why Do People Feel That A Tug Game
lilli_star replied to dasha's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I'd have a hard time doing completely unique things in training. And I'd have a hard time finding something that every experienced person on the planet even agrees over. So I've got to disregard someone. And generally I've got to heed someone as well, even if it's someone who is just saying "You know your dog best, you decide." Well said. -

Here is Roo in her new collar and leash And being smiley after a walk last week -
I picked up a couple of sample bags (free!) at my local Big W about a month ago, but it was only small breed. Haven't given it to the dog to try yet though.

I bags first cuddles! I told Tapua in the Lab thread the other day that I'll have to take Ruby over to test out her enrichment area- and now she's got puppies to cuddle too! ;)

Tell Me Why Cooked Bones Are Bad!
lilli_star replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sigh. I know someone who says exactly the same thing! And he has GSDs too! His other argument is that in a bushfire, a bird/other animal would become 'cooked' and dogs in the wild would eat those and they're fine! -

Dear Hoover, They left you all alone with only the Wobbler! That would have only entertained me for like...10 seconds! Today Hooman Mama went to the movies for hours! She left me with the food cube, which lasts me a bit longer than the Wobbler. Also, the Wobbler is Inside Only apparently. *Eyeroll* I'm gunna go lay on Hooman Mama's bed now. Its way comfy. Luff, Roo xx PS Congratz to Mars and Elbie on passing Silver. Hope you got lots of treats! PPS Congratz to Max on your new sister. She looks like fun! -

Elbie and Hoover look like real little farm dogs now- they just need their doggie Akubras and a stockwhip each! (Oh if only I had Photoshop...) -
Ruby had the same pillow/dog bed thingy I bought from a $2 shop when I first brought her home for about 9 months! I covered it with a thick towel which she chewed the corners of, but the bed stayed intact! I also had a crate mattress that I bought from Big W on the bottom. A few months ago I bought one of those stripy beds/pillows from Kmart and put the towel on top. I made the mistake of buying a bed/pillow for her outside kennel when she was about 6 months old- it lasted a day and a half! So now she has an assortment of polar fleece blankets and old sheets for when she's outside :D

Mars and Pepper look so comfy on the couch! Hope you didn't plan on sitting there! Roo is not a fan of her coat. It IS quite big on her though. Lesson learnt- don't measure from collar. Ziggster is soooooo fluffy in those pics! Was that just after he had been bathed? KTB, those pics are hilarious! So funny that Mr KTB had had enough of their antics and phoned them to stop! :D -

Awwwwwww! Sleepy Mindy is a little bit cute! :D -
I can kind of understand where you are coming from, but at the end of the day, you're still paying for a service. Boarding kennels, as mentioned previously, book out quite early. A lot of people only get time off with their families at Christmas. If they can't get their pets into a boarding facility, why shouldn't they use another petsitting service? Even if their animals are 'less than perfect'? The sad reality is, people who do not have access to any other alternative are in all likelihood going to a) go away anyway and leave their pet behind- hopefully with sufficient shelter, food and water, but (gross generalisation coming) sometimes not. b) Dump their pet at the pound/RSPCA A lot of dogs are probably "no trouble at all" when in their own environment, but put them in a different environment, no matter how caring, and they may act differently, whether that be by digging a hole or chewing bedding. They are dogs, after all, but does that necessarily make them a 'nightmare'? I have a Labrador. At 13 months of age she is still, in many respects, a puppy. On occasion she will 'destroy stuff' as you put it, and probably will for some time yet ;) Does that mean that I shouldn't put her into boarding? Or leave her with friends or family? Well, no. I let the boarding staff know that Ruby has a penchant for chewing material once in a blue moon, and when she stays with my brother, they know what to expect as they have her mother dog. Getting back on topic, there is a difference between paying for a service and depending on the kindness of family and friends, no matter how well behaved your dog is. Much the same as some people prefer to put their children into daycare or babysitting rather than relying on grandparents etc.
