  1. I bought a bottle of "Stop Chew" today from Petbarn to try and stop my Lab puppy from chewing on her lead. It cost $8.88. Haven't tried it yet. Will let you know how it goes
  2. Yeah it snowed one Saturday night last year, but was pretty much gone by 8am. 2008 was pretty good- that was when it snowed in November too! I don't live in Orange though, but am not too far away.
  3. Awww! What gorgeous doglets! Was that up at Mt Canobolas? Unfortunately I had to go to work so didn't really get to see my Ruby's reaction to the snow And it was her first snowfall too! The rain and sleet meant it didn't stick long anyway. Hope it snows again soon on a weekend. We were ripped off last year :D
  4. Well after a positively awful day weather-wise (sleet, wind, snow, rain, max temp of about 4 if that), Ruby seems her normal self. She pooed before I left for work, and I think did another one or two during the day (hard to tell, but I'm pretty sure since I had cleaned up her yard yesterday), but no sign of blanket yet that I can tell. She ate all of her breakfast and most of her dinner tonight (she tends to eat dinner in two sittings), and after a play and some training is napping. Ruby has lots of toys including a Kong, but as I've posted elsewhere, hasn't really shown a lot of interest in it as yet (I'll keep trying though! ) I also give her cardboard boxes with treats inside to chew up while I'm at work and plastic bottles with biscuits inside etc. Still a waiting game for now. Thank you for all the well wishes and good thoughts. It's much appreciated ;)
  5. Thanks everyone. We'll see what the night and the morning brings. Ruby did a small poo just before I put her to bed about 20 mins ago but I couldn't see anything unusual in it. That makes 3 since around 6:30 tonight. My sister (vet) said that their Pug x is always eating weird stuff like cling wrap, and it all makes it out. But then her dogs eat weird things for dogs like mangoes and peaches! She said (like a few others have posted) that if it had been long and 'stringy' then it could be a problem, but as it was a chunk and not too big it should pass. Hopefully tomorrow brings some sun too- it's sleeting outside and really windy- not to mention freezing! ! put a towel in Ruby's crate to keep her warm (on top of her cushion bed thingy). Hopefully she won't try and nibble on it!
  6. It's a bit bizarre isn't it? Whenever Elbie gets runny poo, my husband and I feed him rice, accompany him outside for his toileting and then report back to each other on colour and consistency How did our lives come to this? :p All the best with Ruby ... hopefully the blanket emerges soon. My friend's shiba inu swallowed a squeaker from a toy and freaked out and was on Poo Watch for several days. Weirdly enough it went through her dog's system faster than expected so she had go wading through several days worth of excreta to find it Haha good to know OH and I are not the only ones. We are used to it now but after the lightbulb incident I was texting my boss with an update after every poo (on his request)...whole new level of workplace relations. Fingers crossed Ruby is ok and passes the blanket quickly. Lightbulb incident? That doesn't sound good... :p Toileted again- no sign yet of blanket pieces. Ruby finished her dinner (no idea why she eats it in two sessions) and is now trying to destroy a cardboard box. ETA- koalathebear your 'log' made me laugh. I've actually got a mini one on a Post-it next to me of Ruby's food/toileting today with times, just in case. Lol.
  7. Completely TMI, and I really do apologise, but Ruby just did a poo and while it had some bits of grass/roots in it, no sign of blanket yet. I can't believe I gave you an update on that. And I also can't believe I am looking through my puppy's poo! I usually have the weakest stomach ever! She's eaten some of her dinner, which is normal- she eats half, sleeps, then goes back later to finish it off.
  8. That net which some roasts are wrapped in provides for interesting poo packaging! Yikes! I had a sheep once who ate a surgical glove (my sister used them to pick up her horse's poo in the stable) not once but twice about 12 months apart! Lambchop was a bit confused- thought he was a dog and would eat dog biscuits, but then his mother thought she was a horse! :D Should I feed Ruby her normal dinner tonight (biscuits with a splash of puppy milk and some meat)? Or should I cook some rice or something? I have a little bit of a chicken leg left that I bought her yesterday to use as training treats.
  9. Thank you for your help. I'm really, really hoping it does just pass through. She's still sleeping (upside down!) in her crate. Glad I brought her inside when I did because the weather has since turned foul. I will definitely be taking some gloves and perhaps a little bag outside with me when I toilet her tonight, but of course with tomorrow being Monday, I have to go to work :D I work in the town where I live, so I'm only 5 mins away, but the problem with being a teacher is it's not always possible to drop home during the day due to playground duties etc. I rang the vet a little while ago, and the answering machine message said to call another number for emergencies after 5pm today. After reading what Persephone explained about it not showing up on xray, or external examination, then there doesn't seem much point at this stage ringing that number, does there? ETA She hasn't done anything like this before as far as I know, although I did notice when observing her poo from this morning a few hours ago that the one next to it had bits of charcoal in it- the previous owners of my house had a wood heater and used to tip out the ashes up the side of the house. Guess Ruby thought it looked tasty.
  10. Persephone, I didn't know at the time what had happened- only realised around lunchtime today. I was disoriented from waking up suddenly too. No symptoms for a day or 2? Really??? Should I take her to the vet tomorrow? :D
  11. Slightly long winded story. My Labrador puppy is almost 12 weeks old. Last night about 2am I woke up suddenly and it sounded like she was trying to throw up. I got up and went over to her (her crate is in my bedroom), but couldn't see anything and she seemed okay. I went back to bed, but lay awake for awhile just in case she was sick. Anyway, at some stage she fell asleep again and so did I. When I got up this morning, I think I had forgotten it had happened/thought it was a dream, and took her out to go to the toilet (wee), then fed her her breakfast. She ate all of it, and I took her out again for a toilet break (wee and a poo) before I put her in the backyard and went out for the morning. When I came home a couple of hours later, she was fine. It wasn't until an hour or so later when I was hanging out her bedding that I had washed that I noticed that one of her polar fleece blankets had a chunk (about 5cm at the widest point) missing from the side of it. Needless to say I was confused, and couldn't remember it being like that the other day when I had washed it, then I suddenly remembered what had happened during the night. I went outside to check on her, and she was fine. She had a couple of pieces of lamb flaps while I was cleaning up in her yard, and was racing around with a toy. I texted my sister who is a vet about what had happened and she said Ruby (my puppy) should be fine, and it should pass through. Just to keep an eye on her and make sure she isn't vomitting or off her food. Considering I think she swallowed it during the night, and has eaten since then, I'm hoping she should be okay. I stayed with Ruby outside for a bit over an hour, and like I said before, she seemed normal- bouncy and racing around doing zoomies. I brought her inside to keep an eye on her and after zoomies and barking at the cat, she is now sleeping in her crate. Do you think she'll be okay? Sorry about the quality of the pics. I took them with my phone.
  12. Lol Ruby often falls asleep on her back. My next door neighbour was just telling me this morning that one day last week he looked out across my yard and she was on her back asleep with her toy cow in her mouth! Ruby snores. Loudly. She's had a very big day today, and was just snoring a few minutes ago. I tried to get it on video, but my crappy camera couldn't pick it up Don't you love how quickly they can fall asleep? Ruby was awake one minute, then off to her crate and 30 secs later- snores! ;)
  13. My Lab pup is almost 11 weeks old. I have given her (under supervision) lamb flaps, lamb necks, chicken necks, turkey wings and just this morning half of a beef shin that was cut in half again lengthways and she got half of that. Lamb flaps and chicken necks do not last long at all. Ruby basically gives chicken necks a couple of good crunches and they're gone. We did have a slightly scary incident a week or so ago where she didn't chew it, and she started to cough a bit- I was up so quick with my hand down her throat I almost didn't believe it! But I think when I grabbed her, it dislodged itself and she swallowed it. I still give them to her as part of her breakfast, but I watch and listen very carefully. Turkey wings last a bit longer. I have only bought the ends that look like a chicken drumstick (if that makes sense), and she happily munches away on those until there's about 10cm of bone left, at which point I take them away just to be safe. Neck bones last awhile- she doesn't seem to want to eat much of the bone though, only the meat. This morning I gave her her first 'big' bone- she loved it! Ate most of the marrow, but there's still some meat on it. She dragged it all over her yard before putting it in her hiding place (up the side of the house) . We always fed our dogs shank bones when I was growing up- which is why I always think it's funny when I see them on the menu in restaurants now that they've become trendy. I haven't given Ruby one yet though just because they are so expensive! I would like to leave her with a bone when I go to work, but I've read too much on here about how that is a very bad idea. At what age IS it okay?
  14. Jed, I have only just read what happened (and shed many tears for you and your doglets along the way). I lit a candle for you with healing thoughts for your mind, body, heart and soul. You obviously have many, many people who are wishing you well. Add me to the list
  15. My puppy doesn't seem interested in Kongs unfortunately. I've tried lots of different food combos, but she doesn't seem to know what to do with it beyond licking the end a little. She has a treat ball too, but prefers to carry it around like a normal ball. She hasn't quite twigged yet that the biscuits that 'appear' come from it. Lol I don't think I've got the right size Kong though either. Started with a small red one, now have a large puppy one. Still no luck.
  16. Oh boy. I've had my Labrador puppy for a week now (she's 9 wks old), and I tell you, it's only pride and a sense of responsibility that stopped me from ringing my sister-in-law the next day (and every day since!) to say I've changed my mind! :D I go back to work next week, so I'm trying to get her used to being outside by herself and it has not been fun. The rain today has not helped- a dry kennel with bedding that's inside a garden shed versus sitting outside in the rain howling, and Ruby took the outside option. Bedding became a dirty, muddy, wet mess, which in turn made the washing machine and dryer dirty. Sigh. Tomorrow is not looking good weather-wise either. So really- it gets better?
  17. Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm trying to decide on pet insurance for my Labrador puppy, and although I've read a few of the previous threads on the topic on here, I think I'm even more confused! So far I've looked at PIA, Medibank and HCF (because that's who I have my health insrance through). They all seem to be much the same. How do you choose???
  18. Lol I know you didn't want us to laugh, but it is a really funny story. I bet it was a nightmare at the time though
  19. Well, the first meeting between my puppy (8 wk old female black Lab) and my cat (6 year old male moggy) went pretty well actually! Jasper (cat) was sitting at the window when I drove in (as he does 98% of the time when I come home), so I used that to my advantage by keeping the puppy outside for a bit longer so that he could watch her and 'meet' her through the window. When I eventually took her inside, Jasper was pretty calm and a bit curious. Ruby (puppy) was really quiet, which helped I think. I can only imagine how it would have gone if she was a bit bigger! Anyway, I sat near Ruby and called Jasper over and gave him treats when he did to make it a positive thing etc Ruby has mostly slept since then, and Jasper has walked past her and sniffed up close, and seems fine. I did get a bit worried when I had to leave the house (took the pup with me) to pick up Ruby's crate from the post office. I figured that that would be when Jasper would be likely to use the litter tray, and given that he shows his unhappiness to me by pooing NEXT to his trays (yes, plural! For one cat!) fairly regularly, I was expecting the worst, but, amazingly, no drama there either! (So far!) It is VERY early days yet, but I'm glad that their first meeting went well at least. Best of luck to you and your pup's first meeting with your cat.
  20. I'd appreciate any advice too, except I'm getting my pup tomorrow. I'll let you know how the first meeting goes
  21. I saw some in PetBarn yesterday. Thought they looked a bit strange, but a great idea
