  1. I just saw the pics on his Facebook page- Alvin is gorgeous! I hope he comes home soon! It must be even harder for you when your daughter is so upset as well
  2. Last night I put a fan in front of Roo's crate with a wet sheet over the top of her crate, and then had the pedestal fan oscillating between me and her crate. I need to ring the local electricians to come and install some ceiling fans. Not sure though if I should buy them myself from Bunnings first. After a walk up and down the main street this morning, I made Ruby get into her clamshell pool and wet her down. She then went and found a sunny spot and lay there
  3. Hee! Check out the doglets in doggles! No WAY would Roo let me put doggles on her- the reindeer antlers took a lot of bribery as it was!
  4. I am going to get these but tossing up between regular and large. I have Labs but leaning towards the smaller one as it still take 1 cup of food which is more than enough (I think!) What size do you have experience with? Any idea if the hole where the food comes out is the same size in both sizes? We've got two of the large size ones - our pup is only 11 months yet is apparently close to fully grown (just over 20kg) for a border collie... we actually got the larger one thinking he might grow a little more but also as the large is too big to fit in his mouth so although they've got a few tooth marks etc there's no way he could actually get a grip on it enough to destroy it (unlike the rest of his toys!). I barely put anywhere near a cup in ours, and often use just a few pieces of things that smell good to him but he's going to take ages to get them out on the right angle.. it keeps him going for hours and hours and I can quite happily leave him alone with it and not worry what condition it'll be when I come back! (was a saviour for puppy 'witching hour'). Hope that helps... I cant remember the size of the food opening from memory... I have been wanting to try one for ages, because I have 2 dogs I would need 2 though and they are not cheap if they are not interesting to the dogs so good to know it keeps your dog busy I bought Roo a large one from Vet N Pet Direct. She LOVES it! But I can tell you right now, it does not provide hours of entertainment for her! About 10 mins max if that! The RC Lab adult kibble was too big for it though, but a medium size like Nutro was okay.
  5. So does that mean I shouldn't bother ordering the Everlasting Treats/Bento Balls?
  6. Ruby does this too and she doesn't have any competition for her bones. Have you tried freezing them to see if that slows him down?
  7. Join us in the Lab thread (Those Crazy Labradors) if you haven't already
  8. awwwwwwwww did you get my note yet? Not yet. I forgot to ask her for the food.
  9. Which can only be a good thing. And the demand greater than supply, another reason why prices are following an upward trend! Unfortunately that's not the case in NSW. Just ask Amanda at Labradog Rescue As RubyStar said, puppies are a LOT of work- I had never had a puppy as a 'grownup' before, and it definitely was a lot harder than I expected! Don't discount getting an older pup or even an adult dog just because you have kids. You might find it will actually be a whole lot easier and that it will fit into your family a lot better. Sometimes breeders also have older dogs that have proven unsuitable for breeding or showing, but have still grown up withn a family environment, are toilet trained, have some obedience etc. Of course at the end of the day, it's up to you. I have to say though that I don't think I will go down the puppy route again in a hurry, but would more likely consider an older dog either through rescue, or a breeder.

  11. Tara, I'm sure if you PM Frenzied1, she can sort something out for you When I first got Roo, I bought a fluffy toy from Petbarn. Bear was Roo's best friend for a long time, until he needed to have his arms and legs amputated due to being gnawed on! It might be an idea to ask the breeder if you can send a toy to live with your pup and its' mum for awhile before you bring it home so it will smell familiar and may help it to settle when you bring it home. I bought some other toys from Big W ('Cow' was Ruby's other most favourite toy) and the $2 shop. Ruby got the Tuffy pig for her birthday- it's huge!
  12. The extra on the dog bed is my mum's Sheltie. Erik and Kivi have not grown up with cats and Erik is highly suspicious of them. There's no way he'd curl up on a bed with one! Oh. Ooops. Sorry I did think just after I posted my reply, "What if that's not a cat?". In any case, it IS a gorgeous photo
  13. Awww Corvus, that is such a gorgeous picture! Is that your cat on the dog bed as well? I can only dream that my dog and cat would be able to lie on a bed together
  14. Oh Teebs No advice to give, just hugs for you and Atlas
  15. Is there anyone who attends or has attended either of the dog training clubs in Bathurst (Denison and Greater Western All Breeds) and can tell me what they are like? I'd like to do proper obedience classes with Ruby, but not sure where to go. Thanks
  16. :cheer: :cheer: Yay! So glad she's home with you now :D That is one HUGE incision though! Apart from eating special food for a little while, should she be back to her normal self soon?
  17. sadly, she is still on small feeds of a special diet- i/d or a/d i think? But you know labradors- any food is good food I figured as much. Don't want to upset her tummy any more. What a rollercoaster of emotions you've had the last few days! Having Mindy home will be the best thing for you both
  18. Oh that's terric news! I know she will be spoilt rotten once she is home BBQ chicken for dinner tonight? ;)
  19. Hope Mindy continues to do well. She has a lot of people thinking good thoughts for her, and for you as well
