Niques bought a wombat! Niques bought a wombat! When Elbie puts his ears back, he looks like a seal. We are very creative and call it his ... "seal look". Wombats are my favourite Australian animal. If I had a chocolate Lab, Wombat would be a name I'd consider ETA Do any of you remember the kids tv show Wombat? Rereading my post I suddenly had the theme song in my head, well what I can remember.... -

I forgot to say that I filled in part of the gap wanting a puppy with His Royal Grumpiness, Jasper the cat. Jasper came into my classroom one day in 2004 for News...he came home with me a few days later ETA Max, I'm so sorry to hear about Puppy. It sounds like he lived a wonderful life and was a much loved member of your family. I loved the story about the car -

I have always wanted a Labrador. Specifically a black one. Growing up we had a yellow Lab x GR as well as all sorts of other dogs and animals (I grew up on a farm, and my mum was the biggest animal lover around. I'm not kidding- it was almost a zoo), but I always wanted my own black Lab. But of course, it was never a good time. 9 years ago, my ex and I had a pup on order, but when it arrived I had just finished Uni and had no job. Then I lived overseas, then when I came back to Oz, I lived out west (went for 6 mths, stayed 4 years...) and then moved down here and was renting all that time etc. Two years ago, my brother and sister-in-law gave me a birthday present I couldn't see yet- they were planning to get their yellow Lab in pup to a friend's chocolate Lab, and one of the pups could be mine (as long as I didn't mind if they were yellow!). Well, we waited. And waited. And waited. But their dog was obviously playing hard to get. When I bought my house last year, the first thing my friends said was "So when are you going to get your Labrador?" In January I actually made contact with a local breeder, but the puppies wouldn't have been ready until the school year began, and I wanted to spend time with a pup before I went back to work. So, I kind of just let the idea go again (but still would look at the breeder listings on DOL and wish!). In May, my niece rang me to tell me some exciting news- their dog had had puppies that day! They hadn't told me she was pregnant in case something went wrong. She had 10 puppies- all black- but sadly 2 didn't make it. This was the first photo my sil sent me. They originally wanted me to have "Big Boy" (now called Sumo) on the left, and apparently still big! No idea if the other pup is Ruby though. Due to one thing or another, I didn’t actually get over to see the puppies until they were 4 weeks old. Black puppies do not photograph well in a group unfortunately. It wasn’t until the next weekend that I chose which puppy I wanted. There were only 3 girls, and one was already taken, so I made my choice. My niece with Ruby This is Ruby the day I brought her home- in the box that she travelled home in. She was 8 weeks old the next day and it fit right in with school holidays. -

*Pouting because she wishes she lived closer to Canberra to go to Kuma's birthday party* Essay is finished! Yayyyyy! Just hope lecturer doesn't think it's crap...which it most likely is. Ack! Just realised TAR is on and I've missed half of it! :D Stupid Commonwealth Games. Will work on Roo's story soon. Hope everyone has had a good day -

Hee! I love Elbie's videos :D The captions are great too. I couldn't believe how big his cushion was- it was growing before my very eyes! And then of course, buh-bye cushion. I hope it wasn't one of the Very Expensive Dog Futons made by the same people as the dog basket/bed things My favourite part though was when Elbie is up close and personal with the camera. Like he was saying "So are you happy now? Huh? Enjoy the show?" :D PS I didn't know Border Collies came in tricolour either til I came on DOL. *blush* -

Popping in quickly (200 words to go!!! Would have finished, but mowed the backyard- took over an hour and a half! ) to say OMG! How CUTE is Asti????!!! The ears! The name! That smile! Welcome to our converts. There's so many of you now who live in Canberra! I've loved reading your doglet stories. I can't believe how big Genevieve is now, Wizzle! And 7 cats, MM???!!! That's committment! I have one rather grumpy moggy Jasper (well, he's grumpy around Roo ;) ). I'll post a pic of him when I do Roo's story. Going to see her mama dog on the weekend hopefully. Roo is currently munching on part of a deer ear that she's had for a few days. Its...gross really, all soggy. She is unable to just eat it in the one place though- keeps picking it up and moving to another place to nibble, before starting all over again. Who knows what that means... -

Ugh. The essay is for Biblical Studies for a post-Grad course I'm doing. You'd think being Catholic and teaching in a Catholic school would be enough, right? So. Much. Reading. At the risk of talking about "boards on boards"- although that doesn't seem to be much of an issue on here compared to another forum I used to visit many moons ago, that thread is seriously going to blow- much flaming going on. -

Hey KA. I read your thread. The cozy corner is a safe place... ;) Okay, really going back to this essay now. Is it wrong that I would seriously consider buying one off one of those essay websites if I could find one that fit? :D I wouldn't really of course- plagiarism is bad...mmm'kay PS KTB, just read your thread about the pup whose cute pic might be the one a few posts ago. Interesting replies. I don't know whether it's made where to go from here any easier for you though -

KTB, you so have the best thread! All the cool kids wanna join Warm fuzzies for you Big day for Ruby today- she saw my older sister (who used to be a vet) again for the first time in almost 3 months and met my best friend and her dad. All pronounced Roo as just gorgeous Not long back from puppy school week 2, and I am happy to report that Miss Roo was a lot better than last week (currently fast asleep and snoring on and off). Not perfect by any stretch, and still with the attention span of an ant, but better. Magical dog trainer lady wants me to stop walking Ruby until she can walk nicely on a loose leash, since I'm basically throwing all the work out the window when Ruby takes me, ahem, I take Ruby for a walk. Hmmm...I can see her point, but Ruby really enjoys her walks, and it gets me off my bum too... On the way to puppy school, we stopped at Petbarn and I bought Ruby one of those BonoFido staydry basket dog bed thingys. I'd been looking at them online since KTB and Niques said they have them, but I couldn't find a lot of stock online (only a few online shops plus eBay). The cheapest one I found was in Hobart- until the postage was added! By chance, I looked on the Petbarn website and wahey! They're on special this month! I was going to get an XL...boy I'm glad I looked at them in person rather than just ordering sight unseen- the XL was mega huge! Seriously, I don't think it would have fit in my car! I think it was about the same size as my car! So, a large it is, and even that is pretty big (yes, I know she'll grow into it!). Jasper the cat may command it yet too Kuma Akita- I can't believe how big Kuma's grandfather is! I've never met an Akita in real life. I love that pic of Kuma as a wee puppy standing all show dog fancy like MM, the pic of Maverick in the middle of his destruction made me gasp, then laugh You must have been picking up bits of foam for weeks! I'll post Roo's "story" when I've finished this stupid essay. Yes. Still working on it. Halfway through the wordcount though Aiming to be done by Thursday so I can take Roo over to see her mama dog and hang out with my niece and nephew before he goes back to boarding school. -

Ack. Feeling...blah. Mostly because I'm annoyed with myself for wasting another day instead of just getting this stupid essay done, and partly because Ruby seems to be going through a delightful "selective hearing"/being a little toad stage today. This afternoon after playing fetch and practising "give it" (a very slow and not always successful process) and sit stays, Ruby went into full on crazy dog zoomie mode where she would race around and then jump up and try and bite me! Saying NO! didn't work, standing still didn't work, ignoring and putting my back to her didn't work (just made her more determined), and I was out of treats. Finally managed to shuffle over to a toy to redirect her, but it was not fun. :p After dinner and a nap for Ruby, I spent some time working on her training and puppy school homework- sit stays, loose lead walking etc and that went fine for awhile, but then she would just lose interest and walk away! Attention span of an ant I tell you! Oh, and she's also taught herself a new "trick" where she just flops down and refuses to budge! Can't wait to ask the magical dog trainer lady about that one and the crazy dog zoomies on Tuesday night. Then I read a post about how Labradors shouldn't be left alone all day etc etc and felt bad all over again. Blah blah blah feelingsorryformyselfcakes. Aaanyway, with Miss Roo now snoring in her crate, I came on here to cheer myself up. Here are some pics from today. These two were taken from the window that looks out over Roo's kingdom (Queendom?). I wasn't quick enough getting the camera to get pics/video of her playing with the clamshell like a seesaw, but here's how she ended up. This is how the loungeroom looks before I put Ruby to bed (actually it usually looks worse- anyone would think I had children!) The picture of innocence -

Wow! What a cool place to take your doglet! I've only ever been to one dogpark- that was in Sydney with my sister's dogs (a Jack Russell and gasp! A 'Puggle'! ). It was really like a huge football field type item with a cafe and a ZILLION dogs all seemingly behaving themselves with some doing obedience classes and others racing around. The one you went to looks like way more fun! Loved the pics and the video. Aaaand KTB- you seem to have forgotten to mention to us, your devoted followers in the cosiest corner of DOL, that you and your OH are thinking of expanding your fur family! Last we heard, Mr KTB wouldn't have a bar of it- you must have been very persuasive I have spent the last couple of hours NOT writing an essay (sigh. I am the biggest procrastinator in the world.) and instead playing around with Photobucket making a sig- it's not too big is it? Don't want the mob, err mod, to come after me :D All the cool kids are doing it... PS We had a Kelpie- his name was Bert. He wasn't much chop at working sheep, which is probably why my brother gave him to my dad so he could live the life of Riley and be spoilt rotten by my mum! He was red and tan too (except I didn't know until just a minute ago that 'red' is what I called 'brown' lol). He was a dopey dog, but loveable. Would chase a tennis ball, but then rip it up into pieces! -

Okay. So I know they're both Labs. And black. And these two reasons alone could have something to do with it- but Ruby and James are so alike! Except of course for the fact that Ruby is backyard bred. This made me almost spit tea all over my laptop -

:D Oh KTB, your posts crack me up every time! Ruby ate through the rope on hers too- I of course mildly freaked out (this was a few weeks after the blanket episode), and collected all the bits left in a bag which is currently sitting on the bench and tried to work out how much she had actually eaten. Not much, but some as it turned out So then I joined the two halves with wire (Ha! Chew your way through THAT smartie!), then proceeded to worry everyday that she would EAT the wire, especially after she pulled it out one day (yeah, this smartie hadn't actually tied the wire around itself. It is now). Of course the little brat doesn't actually use her clamshell for digging- why bother when it's more fun to dig up the floor in her shed (now covered up with pavers to hold tarp edges down), or holes next to the house, or today a hole in the backyard while I was talking to the next door neighbour over the fence. :D -
How absolutely devastating for you and your family. I really hope, that like the dogs mentioned on here, the Vitamin K does its thing and your beautiful doglets continue to be very special, loving members of your family for a long time yet. Big hugs for what is going to be a very tough couple of weeks for you and your family
-
I'm sure they would have called you if there had been a worry Bet you can't wait to see her :D
