  1. Hi everyone Hope you all had a good weekend- mine was fabulous! Bon Jovi on Friday night (AWESOME by the way!) and hanging out with my best friend shopping, movies, eating, driving around Sydney etc for the rest of the weekend. Spent a whole lot of money, but had the best time. Met her new boyfriend too, and he seems really nice. I house sat for my sister and dog sat for my furry 'nephews' while she and my brother in law went to Canberra for the weekend (although I wasn't really a good doggy aunty since I was out all weekend and they didn't get their chicken wing dinner on Saturday night til late. Sorry boys ;) ) Roo and Jasper the cat went to the boarding kennels, and although they 'forgot' to pick them up at the pre-booked time (I booked 2 months ago!), I'm told Roo had a great time, although Jasper looks thinner ;) Maybe he didn't eat while he was there. Hmmm. He's stretched out in front of the heater now while Roo snoozes in her crate. Yes, the heater is on. In December! It's freezing cold here- I'm not kidding either. The overnight low in Sydney was higher than the daytime temp here! The news said it got to a grand high of 12 today! I reckon it was about 7 with the windchill though. Wuffles, I like your new sig, and your video was great Niques and minxy- you poor things with cane toads :D I'm glad we don't have them here. There have been a few frogs on the front lawn at night when I take Roo out to the toilet that look toad-like, but I think they're Banjo frogs. Thankfully Ruby has ignored them so far (that and I make sure we don't go near them). Wizzle, I'm glad everything is going well with Wee Wizzle. Not sure about the avocadoes with Malteesers though Raven, Astrid looks so shiny in her pics. Look forward to seeing her 'PixiPhoto'-esque portraits. Hope there's some tulle and pearls Max, looks like Max had a great time! I haven't been brave enough to let Roo free on water, except at my brother's place. No doubt she'll be doing plenty of splashing about there over Christmas- plenty of water around and mess from flooding a couple of weeks ago apparently. KA- congratulations on Kuma's calendar debut! Roo is in the Labrador thread one Which reminds me, I should order one...
  2. Awwwww! How cute are your doglets?! I particularly love the photo of Elbie resting his head on Mr KTB's shoulder.
  3. Ohmygosh! I laughed for like 5 minutes at that sentence alone! :p ;) Well, I'm officially on holidays! Yay! Roo and the cat are off on their 'holiday' tomorrow morning as well. Hope they both behave themselves. I paid extra for extra playtime for Ruby, so she's better appreciate it! ;)
  4. Thanks everyone. There has been steady movement at the station, so to speak, since Sunday night. Just in case though, I fed her tinned food (Nature's Gift) for a couple of days as part of dinner.
  5. Hi everyone It's been a crazy few days (weeks!) here. Haven't even had my computer on I know! Shock horror! Today was the last day with kids, but teachers have to be at school tomorrow, then we are FREEEEEEE!!! Apparently I missed an 'interesting' thread :D I thought she wasn't going to post about her dog's progress any more though???
  6. Thanks Persephone. It's the waiting around to see what happens that's the worst. Having Ruby has meant that if ever I was queasy about dog poo, I'm now no longer! There was the blanket, the rope from her sandpit, foot from her toy duck...not to mention stuff I didn't know about that 'appeared'- bits of rope toy, part of her dog bed that she destroyed a few weeks ago... I just hope this too shall pass as they say
  7. Resurrecting this thread because of what happened tonight. My 7 1/2 month old Labrador puppy, Ruby, eats lamb shanks regularly. She crunches up most of the bone, and I usually throw the last bit away (10cm or so long). This afternoon I gave Ruby a bigger shank than usual, and for the first time it was cut almost in half (I bought it from Woolworths today instead of my local butcher as I usually do). I sat outside with her while she ate it just in case, and she took a bit longer than usual to strip the meat off. She bit the bone into 2 pieces and was munching on the bottom half (if that makes sense), when I could see that she had the whole thing in her mouth. As I was watching her, it seemed like it was stuck, and just as I got up to get it out, she swallowed it. I threw the other half (top half) in the bin straight afterwards, but now I'm slightly freaking out. I know dogs eating bones is natural, but I'm afraid that having swallowed it whole, it may cause problems coming out, or if she throws it up Since that happened, she played with next doors GSD for an hour, and seems fine. I gave her one of those small containers of Nature's Gift wet food a little while ago just to help things through. She doesn't usually get a whole one- just a couple of teaspoons full in her Kong, so I'm hoping it might help push things through? I haven't given her any kibble tonight either. I think I remember Persephone saying once that psyllium husks help, but I don't have any and the local supermarket here is shut. Is Metamucil similiar? I have some of the Fibresure brand- no taste, mixes into food or liquid. The ingredients just say 100% Inulin (whatever that is). All advice appreciated.
  8. Ohhh KTB I'm so sorry today was so difficult. It can be hard to remember that what was said was not really meant, especially when it hurts so much in the meantime. I hope tomorrow is a better day. I still have all my wisdom teeth (hence why I am so wise lol ), and they come up and go down at least once a year. There's no room in my mouth for them to stay. I suppose I should go see a dentist... Oh! I know! I was so excited when I heard they were making another movie, and SO disappointed when I saw it All mixed up and not true to the books at all. And what was with Cameron Daddo??! I need to buy the first 2 on DVD... Once upon a time I had big plans to visit PEI. My ex and I even discussed getting married there. Miss Roo made it through the past week of being 'neglected'. I felt so guilty- ridiculous, I know. According to my neighbour, she barked and whined little on Thursday night, and I was home by 9 then. I haven't seen them today to find out how she was last night while I was at my work Xmas party. I took her for a big walk before I got ready to go in the hope that might get some of her energy put. One more late night to go, then almost back to normal. Roo will go on her first boarding holiday next week while I'm away. Cue the guilt to begin yet again! All this rain we've been having has brought out all these gigantically HUGE spotty slugs! They've been in Roo's shed when I've gone to get her the past few nights. Ick! Apart from using bait (obviously a big no no)- how else can I get rid of them?
  9. Hi Wizzle! So good to hear from you And hasn't Miss G grown into such a gorgeous lady/doglet! I hope everything continues to go smoothly with Wee Wizzle. He/she has plenty of honourary aunties on here that can't wait to meet him/her! So much to catch up on! Raven, Astrid is gorgeous! And to silly pet shop woman. Niques, how is James doing? Hope his mouth is healing. It does seem strange that he will eat the meat and leave the bone of his lamb shanks. Roo barely leaves any bone left! Max, glad to hear flyball is going well. Can't wait to see Max (dog) in action KTB Thinking of you and Papa Koala. Gentle hugs to you both. How is Monsieur Hoover (pronounced in the French way without the 'H' of course )? My bottom left wisdom tooth decided this morning to pop up and say hello It's been annoying me all day- hurry up and go back down again! I'm reliving my childhood at the moment and watching Anne of Green Gables. Love it
  10. Yes. Plus it's REALLY hard to take photos of black dogs!
  11. Hi everyone Hope you and your doglets are all well I'm with KA- crazy week here too. So tired. Have fallen asleep on the couch the past few nights while writing/checking reports. I gave them to the boss today, but I think he said I've written too much on some of them (as per usual!) and the comment won't fit on the page! Happens every year I feel so guilty There's something on every night this week. Tonight I got home after 8pm. Poor Roo ;) At least I'm able to duck home after school and give her a lamb shank before heading off again. I've been giving them to her frozen, in the hope that it will last longer. No idea if it works or not, but at least it keeps her occupied for a bit. Raven, only one more day! ;) My cat Jasper is still not impressed with the black monster. Lol. He stays out of her way when she's awake and inside.
  12. Hee at Elbie No room at my house for a tree this year Doesn't really matter since I'll be at my brother's (Ruby's breeder. Heh.) place for Christmas anyway with my nieces and nephews and our extended family. The kids in my class begged me to put the Xmas tree up in our classroom today, so we did. Bless them, they were so excited
  13. Quick hello to all while I dry my hair with one hand and type with the other I fell asleep last night while writing reports, so have to get them done tonight It's so crazy at school- there is something on every night this week (except tonight, so I mowed the lawn while there was a break in the weather) Ridiculous. Roo had a good play tonight with her best dog friend, so she's asleep. Next door's older dog will not be with us much longer I'm told So sad. At least she ate a little bit today Hope you and your doglets are all well. A quick photo of Roo being greedy Raven- I hope you are okay now KTB- Haven't had a chance to look at your vids, but will when things calm down (or at least I've done my reports! lol)
  14. Bwah hahahaha! Koalathebear has a hooker bear! (And might I just say, he's a leeetle bit creepy looking too) Clastic, my friend's Lab was taught by her original owner to pick up clothes and put them in the basket. However, if you weren't careful, she would just grab your, uhhh, 'unmentionables' and sprint around the house with them! ;)
  15. Yikes KTB! Hope you can clear the drain quickly (or find the plug ) It poured when I was in town for dog school- all the creeks around are up and the drain at the showground was overflowing and almost up to the causeway as I was leaving! As I was on my way out of town I went around a car that had been in an accident not long before- from what I could tell, no one was hurt, just a banged up car (it didn't look that fancy to start with I would say). Since then though it's been fairly humid here but no rain. I took Roo for a long walk again this afternoon and she's snoozing now. The forecast is for more rain though Same here I showed a pic of Roo's bed destruction to one of my work colleagues yesterday and she said "Hmph! I thought you were taking her to dog school? Doesn't look like she's learning anything!" ;) *sigh*
  16. I was going to suggest this, but you've already looked into it There are 2 Bearded Collies that go to dog school and they both have suffered in the past with anxiety (possibly related to thyroid problems??? I think the owners said ;) ). They both had Thundershirts on their dogs for the first lesson just to calm them in a new situation with new dogs (although both have done a lot of work with MDTL too- one owner comes from the Blue Mountains!). Both owners spoke very highly about the shirts when I asked them about it, and said they really seem to work, so I hope it can help Satch out too. Poor Little Matchgirl (AKA Roo) had to make do with just her blankets and sheet once again today after being 'spoilt' by the dog bed as well for all 2 1/2 days or whatever it was I left her with her usual Kong (but with honey and kibble in the vain hope it might take her a bit longer) and Buster cube, and a chewie. I got home tonight to no destruction (phew!) but she had been out in the rain waiting for me (I was late home again- school is crazy this time of year!). As it had stopped raining by then, I took her for a long walk that she is still sleeping off. Raven, how scary for your breeder! Glad everything is okay now.
  17. Oh Clastic! What a scare for you! So glad Mars and Pepper were found safe and well (and slightly full from pizza!). Ruby just chewed a hole in Duck Version 2. I used it as an opportunity to pull the squeaker out. I'll have to sew it back together at some stage I suppose (no idea when!). Gah! Maybe I should buy her one of those soft toys without stuffing? And a Tuffy.
  18. I forgot to say what gorgeous doglets! Of course they would have to be, being Ava's brothers I've never known much about Aussie's before (and yet to meet one 'in real life'), but they seem like such lovely dogs. Well, at least Ava and her brothers do
  19. That's not the bon fido bed is it???? Ruby's been busy!!! Also, I hope you're feeling better today. We have had so much rain today - huge, huge puddles. OH came to pick me up from our office Christmas party tonight and he was waiting by the door with an umbrella for me and we still both got very wet. They are saying that it's going to rain through most of December! Egads! No, just a bed I bought from the supermarket here which has a general "stuff" (almost like a $2 shop) section. The dog beds were new in the shop when I bought one on Monday- even though I thought almost $40 was a bit much for a 'no name' brand. Still, I thought I would treat her since she had to spend so much time in her shed because of the rain. It was supposedly waterproof, though obviously not puppy proof. I hadn't put one in her kennel before then- she had 2 polar fleece blankets and an old sheet in there before, so I put the bed in, then those on top thinking she could snuggle in when the weather was dreadful. Well, today we only had a couple of showers, then mostly fine weather (with lurking clouds) so I guess Roo was making hay while the sun shone so to speak. My next door neighbour stuck his head out the window when I came home (and after I had yelled out "Ruby Lastname! What on earth have you been doing today?! That bed was brand new!!!", as if she were a child ) and said that he had called out to her at one stage to stop, but she basically just waited til he went away and carried on! I actually felt bad for seeming cross at Ruby around him when his older dog is so ill (on strong painkillers now ). I am feeling a bit better, thank you all for asking . Not risking eating much though- had spaghetti on toast for dinner How sweet of Mr KTB to wait in the rain with an umbrella for you, KTB
  20. Look what 1 Labrador puppy + 1 almost $40 dog bed (bought on MONDAY!!!) equals....
  21. Oh really? I didn't know that :D I think my favourite pic of Ava was that one where she was 'swimming' on the pool cover
  22. Ava! Wuffles, I think you need to post some more fluffball puppy pics of your pretty girl so we can coo over how much she's grown
