Thanks for this advice, is the antiseptic wash something that is available only from the Vet?
-
Thanks, may give this a go. It's the 2nd time it's happened, this time much worse than the first and it looks so painful.

Just after some advice from anyone who has dealt with interdigital cysts before. Our year old male stafford has developed one that is looking rather sore and I have read that epsom salts is a good idea for soaking the paw in. Has anyone used this before and with what success? Would like to try something before going to the Vet.

The Reason My Staffords Should Be Crated At Night
2staffys replied to 2staffys's topic in General Dog Discussion
Unfortunately they had done the same to an old couch we put outside, that ended up at the tip! I am amazed that the doona still remains intact. Give them time I suppose. I took these the other day 1st pic, not knowing I was watching them tear my hubby's shoe to bits and "oh no we've been caught" -
The Reason My Staffords Should Be Crated At Night

This is not the first time something like this has happened and it definitely won't be the last! -
Doggy pyjamas, how cute! Do they actually keep them on overnight? I wouldn't have a hope of keeping them on my two.

The Reason My Staffords Should Be Crated At Night
2staffys replied to 2staffys's topic in General Dog Discussion
No I didn't. Should have got him to do it though since it took me ages. I couldn't help but laugh, definitely one of those I told you so moments!! -
We used to crate both our sbt's at night but lately have been giving them the run of the spare room. Hubby and I went out for dinner the other night and hubby insisted that we put them "to bed" where I was of the opinion to leave them outside as we do during the day. Well we went with hubby's idea and this is what we came home to...... Another soft toy bites the dust!!!

Yep Chi for sure, oh how cute. Doesn't look like it's going to be real big.

OMG, I think that could be the cutest puppy I've seen in my life.

That is one cute puppy! Such a beautiful breed, can't wait to follow your journey

As Sandra777 has said, 2 very different temperaments. Although hubby is saying either one or the other I think maybe more research is needed to find a breed that everyone is happy with and that is going to suit their lifestyle. Definitely approach breeders to have a look at and interact with the adult dogs. All well and good getting a cute puppy but you need to be aware of what that puppy is going to grow into and what needs it is going to have. Staffordshires are beeaauutiful dogs (I have 2) but are definitely not for everyone. Good luck to the family!!!

How Many Of Your Dogs Do You Walk At Once?
2staffys replied to snow_wolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wow, I thought I was achieving something walking my 2 staffords together but after reading this discussion I clearly see that others are doing better. 5 big dogs at once is incredible. My two are generally ok but it takes a few minutes of walking and correcting before they settle into heeling properly so I'm not dragged along for 40 minutes. My youngest also likes to greet other dogs and I'm not a big person so 2 is enough for me. -
A Few Pics Of My Bullmastiffs Kalais And Chase :0)
2staffys replied to Kaffy Magee's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
What great looking dogs! I pass one on my dog walking route very similar to Kalais. -
Aw what a cutie. My boy Buster who is 11 months now has the same eyes. Ever since he was tiny he has always looked at me with the sadest "hug me" eyes and I'm so glad that even though he's growing so fast, those eyes have stayed the same.

Reading through this topic has brightened my day, how funny! Indy usually gets - Indykins, ranga, fanta pants or ginger ninja (obviously she's red), kinsy, princess, pumpkin or lately "old bitch" Buster has been lucky so far with only Buster Bones, little man, poopy pants or blue dog.

I have wanted my 2 staffies to get in the shower so I could wash them but they refuse. Can I ask everyone, does your dog just walk in or do you have to drag them or pick them up and put them in? I have tried coaxing mine in but since they hate baths so much they turn around and run. I'm a bit scared that if I pick them up and take them in and close the door, they might go crazy and try and run around and end up hurting themselves. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and try, they're getting too heavy for me to lift into the bath.

RottnBullies I squish her all the time! Can't help myself when they're that cute, luckily they both put up with it. Nothing like a good cuddle with your pooch

Just a few pics of my two staffys that I've loaded off my mobile phone. Taken a few days ago. I was getting ready for work and came back to the bedroom to find this... Another comfy spot for sleeping A rare moment getting two faces looking at me at once, hasn't happened since Hilarious, it's amazing what she'll let us do for a photo One of the 1st nights on the couch

Kate39 Indy will be 4 years old in Feb and Buster will be 1 year old in March so they're not real babies anymore We noticed that Indy stopped growing (upwards and outwards) at about the 18 month mark. Buster seems to be getting close to his maximum height now at 10 months but is continuing to grow in width everday. I haven't weighed him for a little while but I struggle to pick him up now and he is definitely heavier than Indy. They are such characters and are loved like children. My heart goes out to all those who have had to leave their pets behind in the flood waters and affected areas. So sad I'll try to post some recent pics of my two soon, have so many that I haven't shared.

Oh my goodness MissCheevius, your puppy is so incredibly cute. I took so many photos of Buster when he was little as he was a tiny pup (not much more than 2kg) and I still feel like I don't have enough to look back on. He was 16kg last time at the vet and I miss those tiny days. Kate39 I am looking forward to seeing some pics of your puppy, maybe it will satisfy my need for puppy pics!

I agree great post Sandra777 and one thing that really stuck out was Staffords are not outside dogs. Our two are always by our side and would much rather be cosy on the couch next to us. They sit at the sliding door looking in crying once they've been out to go to the toilet

Hi Kate39, I'm always attracted to posts from people who have just purchased a staffy pup, oh the joys and crazy moments owning a stafford! There are lots of breeders in this forum that will be able to give you some excellent advice. I'm not one of them but can tell you about the experiences I have had with my 2. Indy is almost 4 years and Buster is coming up to 10 months. They are like chalk and cheese in many aspects so have gone about things differently to suit their personalities. Personally I think 8 weeks is too young to leave a puppy outside while you are out. That opinion is just from my experience. Even though your yard may be secure I think there are always hazards for a young puppy around unless you have an enclosure of some sort. As to when to leave Laycie outside by herself???? I'm not sure, I guess it depends on the dog. Indy was always independent and loved exploring the garden by herself but Buster has always been a "mummys boy" following me around the house and will always be in the same room as me. Time outside together with Laycie will probably make her feel more relaxed and confident in the garden. I don't think grazing on food all day is a good way to go. Others may think otherwise. I prefer 3 meals a day for the pup and wouldn't feed through the night. This might get her into bad habits and lead her to continue waking through the night. If my dogs haven't eaten all the food at the one feeding then I take it away. Saying that, Buster has never refused a meal and inhales his. Indy however ate slowly as a pup and would walk away when she had eaten enough. Crying is something we experienced with both but I must admit that as crazy as Indy was as a puppy, she was excellent at night times and only cried for a few weeks after we got her. Buster just couldn't stand being alone at night and we were bad parents and brought him into the bed on a few occasions! Once he was big enough we were able to crate him properly and he used to sleep with Indy for comfort. Crying at night can be a long hard process but perseverance is the key as I'm sure most people will tell you. As I said, I'm not a breeder and my thoughts are just from my experience with my 2 lovely dogs. Welcome to the world of staffy ownership and I hope you'll love it as much as I do.
-
I agree, definitely don't leave them alone together when feeding of any sort. My 8 month old staffy pup used to eat out of the same bowl as my almost 4 year old staffy when we first got him. Although it was cute we stopped this early on. They are now food aggressive towards each other and don't get their dinner, treats or bones without supervision and they are ALWAYS separated. It's just not worth the risk.

Comon Things People Dont Realise About Your Breed
2staffys replied to MonElite's topic in General Dog Discussion
2 things about my Staffords.... 1. That they will maul you if they do not know you and will generally attack anyone. Although I would like potential intruders to believe that my dogs are capable of that my two will lick you to death before any mauling could occur. I'm sure that most dogs confronted may be capable of doing damage if threatened but my two would definitely not be at the top of the list. In fact as you got out of your car they would be jumping in onto your lap for a ride up to the house! 2. They need to be outside dogs because they're too crazy for inside. While my 1st staffy IS crazy my 2 are lap dogs and wouldn't have it any other way. Especially not outside.
