  1. When we first got Nahla at 8 weeks we came home took her outside for a wee then went to our bedroom, placed her on the bed watched her sleep and thought what now!? We have both had dogs our whole lives but this is different! The thought of her depending on us to survive was scary at first but it didnt take us long to get the hang of it! We got Ted at 10 weeks and he was completly different! We already knew what to do but we were still learning as Nahla was still only 15 weeks old! Ted's a cuddler and sleeper so I was always checking to see if he was still breathing! He also had kennel cough so we were a lot more protective and aware of him. They are now 8 and almost 7 months old, are healthy, happy, very energetic and going great guns!! Going to get de-sexed this Friday and other than that havent been to the vet since their last round of needles! My OH and I feel very proud of what we have done with them so far - keep them alive!!!
  2. When we tap on the bed Nahla does this snake move to reach us! Its sooo cute! She goes head first then her whole body goes all curvy and snake like till she reaches us! Ted will always sit at your head and rest his head on your shoulder. Doesnt matter who is on the couch he just likes to be perched up there and have his own head rest! Cute as buttons my 2! I also love how they clean each others ears every morning! Nahla does Teddy's then Ted returns the favour! They always have very clean ears, my vet thinks its fantastic!
  3. Both my pups are booked in next Friday They went to the groomers for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't believe how strange the house was without them there! I hated every minute of it! Makes you realise in such a short amount of time they become such a big part of your life. I've booked a massage with my Mum next week to get me out of the house while they are not there! Hehe good excuse Hope your little girl bounces back quickly!
  4. Our puppies are almost 7 and 8 months old and we both work full time so during the day they are outside with toys and treats and dog beds for nap time! Then as soon as we get home they are in the house! We have a doggy door so they are in and out all night. When we first got them we had those wire compost bins from Bunnings we turned into play pens so they could be inside but not allowed free access of the house. Our house is very open plan so we just popped them in there when we couldnt watch them or were having dinner etc. They loved it because they could still see us and we could still interact with them. Now they are older and fully toilet trained we dont use them anymore and trust them to roam free around the house, most of the time we have 1 on the couch and 1 on the floor sleeping. We still keep all doors closed when they are inside exept for our room because they like to sleep on our bed ( we are so soft!!)
  5. These pics are so cute!!! My Mum is currently searching for Cavalier breeders in WA and I just showed her your pics and she now has clucky puppy syndrome! I guess thats what happen's when all your kids grow up and leave home, you get puppies again!
  6. My Mums cav x poodle loves being outside and she's an only dog! During the day she is outside and then when Mum gets home she's in and out through the doggy door. Usually after a quick hello and cuddle she's back out chasing what ever moves till she can smell dinner being cooked! When she was a puppy she was mainly outside until she could be trusted a little more then after a couple of disasters and too many bin break-ins she got put outside when no-one was home and its stayed that way as she's a very happy little doggy! The magnetic doggy door sounds like a great idea though! Do some research and see if it could work out for you! Hunt around for a good price too!
  7. Well I'm going away for 4 days with work next week and I have already started a list of things OH needs to do with them! I wont get them vet checked because I know if there were any unusual sings I completly trust him to notice and take them to the vet if anything was to go wrong. If its for your peace of mind then I dont see why not...wont kill em and you wont have to worry while your away so much!
  8. Totally off topic...but Tokkie...your dogs are so so cute!! Love Nandi's scruffy fur!!
  9. Our puppies are naturally calm but man when they get going they do not stop! They usually play for an hour...sleep for an hour!! Then at about 8:30pm at night they have a mad half hour and then die for the rest of the night!! If they get too rowdy we just tell them to either settle down or say gentle Nahla/Teddy and they back off each other for awhile! But I must admit I love seeing them go crazy!! They are so happy and excited and just being puppies! Then they come and cuddle with me on the couch for some quiet time
  10. I was walking my two pups yesterday afternoon and for the first time we had a poo while walking!! I always knot the bags onto the lead just incase! Our local park has poo bags attached to the bin ( which IMO every park should have ) So I put the bag in the bin and take another 1 for next time! Yesterday I saw 3 people do this while I was at the park which just proves it works
  11. I was just checking my two's teeth and gums last night and noticed the same thing!! Off to the vets this weekend now!!
  12. We've found since having them sleep on our bed that they never want to get off They wake as soon as our alarm goes off on weekdays but just cuddle up until we actually get up and on the weekends they will sleep in with us now! usually they slip out of the room for a quick toilet break then come straight back for a few more hours sleep! If they do decide to be bouncing puppies we put them outside still with some brekky and toys!
  13. I love that Teddy only comes to me for some serious cuddles!! I know the exact way to cuddle him and when the OH tries he just fails and Ted come's crawling back into my arms! ;) Nahla is a total Daddy's girl though! Thank god we have 2 dogs!!
  14. Ours started off in pens in our room and now 1 sleeps on our bed and the other in his own bed on the floor next to me! Both come for snuggles once they hear the alarm go off!! No crying or whinging this way and we are always close to them incase something happens in the middle of the night! We leave the door slightly open so they can go to the toilet as they please and we dont hear a peep!
  15. Hello, Just wondering if WA-ers know of any fenced off parks in the Rocky/Mandurah area? We have 2 puppies that we want to let loose for a good run and explore to mix it up with their daily walks! Any recommendations would be great! :D
  16. Were up at 5:30am anyway and usually have to wake the puppies if they still dont hear our alarm! But on the weekends when they do wake up we take them out to the toilet then bring them back in and if they havent settled back into their beds we pop them outside with their breakfast! We love a sleep in due to our early rises during the week! We dont hear a peep out of them and can usually have our breakfast in peace before they realise were up and want to come back in! We make sure all of their toys that they bring in each night are also back in the backyard so they have plenty to do!
  17. Our puppy Nahla didnt have a name for 2 weeks then when we finally agreed on a name we changed it after a week because we decided it didnt suit her! Its an important thing so take time to get to know him first! Then saying that Teddy was named after 2 days because it was just too perfect for him!! ;) at the size of your big puppy dog!!
  18. So so so soooooo cute!!! My pups are 5 and 6 months and I still look at them and almost cry becuase they are so cute and lovable!! My fav bit is when they look at you and you can almost hear them say " I love you too Mum!!" - so pathetic but true Enjoy your new puppy!!! Doesnt loko liek he will stay little for long!
  19. My Mum's Cavalier x poodle does this. She licks all her fur off until she is down to her skin, only on her front paws though. The vet has put it down to food allergies so she has tablets every 2nd day now plus changed her diet and it has stopped for about 2 years so far. I'll find out what they are if you like and maybe mention them to your vet? They had her on so many until they found the right one! Nothing worse than a dog that constantly licks!!
  20. You are not alone. Friends decided they wanted a dog about 7 years ago. They were thinking about getting a Corgi, so asked the local Vet about Corgis when they took their rabbit to him for vaccination. The Vet recommended they buy a new breed....a 'Spoodle'....because it would have hybrid vigour. So they did. Yes ours are "Spoodles" too! They look nothing like each other and 1 looses hair and the other does not and 1 is much taller than the other. They are our absolute world and such good little dogs but the more research I do the more I find out about possible health factors, but then again I guess all breeds have this. Our only problem so far was kennel cough which they got at puppy school but other than that they are very healthy and happy puppies! We wanted a small-mid size dog as this is what we came up with!
  21. Well we got our 2 from different pet shops and never again will I do that!! Our girl was at a "good" pet store where they have very large running pens outdoors and she was paper trained when we got her but our little man Teddy was horrible! Had no instinct that he should not poop where he sleeps! we had to wash his bed everyday because there would be mess on it every morning. He is now 5 1/2 months and hasnt had an acciedent in about 3 weeks now so we think he has the hang of it!! Plus he had kennel cough so we did not sleep for a month and our other 1 got it too! Our vet became our best friend for awhile there! So toilet training alone should scare some people off! I also dont buy their food from stores where they sell puppies anymore! I have done a complete 360 in the last couple of months and wont even go into pet stores at the shops for toys. We love our 2 more than the world and I dont regret getting them but next time I will be adopting from a experienced breeder! This website is fantastic at educating people and I have told so many people about it and saved them from making the same mistakes as I did! I have lived and learned from pet shop puppies and will never do it again! Promise!! I also have DD's...lord oh lord did I mess up on our first puppy buying adventure! :D
  22. When we first got Nahla she was only 1.3kgs and her mouth was so little! We softened the biscuits with warm water and made it all mushy so it was easier to eat. Maybe try doing that so he thinks its the same thing? We kept both our dogs on the same food they were on when we got them for about a month until they realy settled in then we changed it to what we wanted to feed them very slowly so we had no problems! I think the main thing is to keep him feeling secure the first couple of weeks then worry about changing his diet. Congrats on your new puppy hope everything goes smoothly for you!!
  23. We got ours a special mat in the hall way to sit on when they hear the door bell ring. They give a bark then go running to the door, we give the "on your mat" command and then a sit and stay and so far its working! hopfully they will just go to the mat automatically once they get the hang of it but they are just puppies and so excited to see people! They can still see the door and who comes in its just under our control and we say "OK" when they can get off and great the guest! I got this idea from the great Cesar Milan
  24. Our 2 have kibble left for them all day and they never fight over it. We have it in 2 bowls so they have no need to...they only get narky when they have bones if 1 finishes before the other but soon put each other back in their place and will just sit and wait for them to finish. Our dogs play fight all day and night long! They love playing tug of war and kicking a footy around the back yard. We have toys scattered around the yard too but they mostly play with each other. They sleep for most of the day anyway so to them it wont seem that long! I think we miss them more than they miss us!!
  25. We gave our 2 frozen carrots and their faeces were orange for the next 2 days Gave me a fright when I went out to clean up then remembered we had given them the carrots!! Nahla has a rope toy which she is currently chewing on like crazy so we put that in the freezer and she loved it even more! Must of been soothing on her sore gums...we also bought dentasticks from our vet which got rid of the bad breathe.
