Smacking Aggressive Dog, What Does The Dog Think?
melstar-36 replied to sallyandtex's topic in General Dog Discussion
I sure did and so did two other women who were standing near the petting zoo, but the owner ignored us, and walked off with his head held high, ignorant fool!!! I then took his number plate and emailed the RSPCA, I know it probably won't do anything because of lack of proof but at least I know that I did everything I could. -
Smacking Aggressive Dog, What Does The Dog Think?

I totally agree, we were in a similar situation on the weekend at a Easter festival, the advertisement said no dogs allowed must of been for a good reason so the poochies stayed home. Well, when we got there, there was a petting zoo, motorbike demonstrations and plenty happening. There were dogs everywhere!!! One owner was walking his staffy past the petting zoo and he's dog lunged at the animals to my complete horror and disgust, he corrected the dog properly, making him sit and taking his attention away... Then he doubled the metal lead and whipped his dog in the middle of his back, the noise from the whip and the dogs crys where dreadful, the owner continued past the petting zoo with a satisfied face. I wanted to take that metal chain and whip his back and take the dog away from him, complete idiot -

Do You Make Your Own Doggie Treats And Food
melstar-36 replied to melstar-36's topic in General Dog Discussion
I already do chicken mince, veggies, garlic, rice and a few chicken necks to top it off for a feed with a sprinkle of calcium powder, and they love it!!! But if I was only eating the one thing every day, I'd get abit bored with it. I don't like anything with gravy, I like my number 2's hard and easy to pick up, lol. -
Ive always made my own dog food, it's about cheaper and I like to know what there eating, I'm searching for some new recipes to spice it up abit, or any other extras you put in. I make a doggie scrumptious liver cake for treats for my cavies but I also have a male Labrador, any ideas for a much more filling treat for my boy! At the moment I buy dental sticks for him but would live to make my own! Any advice is greatly apprieated

We had a similar problem, we crate at night but if I'm out during the day for long periods, I was afraid that she would knock over her water bowl in the crate and it be a hot day, so we have a back verandah that we never use, so we fenced it off and it's our dogs own personal verandah, luckily it's concrete and we can wash away any accidents she has, she hadn't had any as yet :) Plenty of fresh air and room to run around but mostly sleep

You can get reflective harnesses so that you can easily see your doggie in the dark, I also hate walking in the dark, not because it's cold but you can't easily see what's around you. Maybe ask a friend to come with you, walk in streets with great lighting and carry a hand torch. And if that doesn't work, I'm sure there is plenty of youngsters wanting to earn a quick buck and will walk your dog for you, just before it gets dark

thanks for all the POSTIVE feedback guys, it was late the other night and i didnt get much sleep. Firstly i have a cavalier king charles spaniel, was up late the other night i forgot the "cavalier" at the start. and i do agree i have alot to learn and i was taken by surprise, shes still my little baby. and i didnt make the post to be critzed by others, i was seeking advise and any ideas to what would ease my boys sulking. And evan though i have my breeders licence, doesnt mean im going to breed my bitch straight away and without meeting all health standards, as stated i have alot to learn. Just wanted to get it as soon as i could, to show my nan. she was very proud of me and considers me as a "mini me". i will know when im ready to breed my bitch and it wont be anytime soon, and if i do decide it wont be for profit, it will be to add a new addition to my family. i have been reading books and researching like mad for well ove a year, my main interest is showing but i dont want to embrass myself by jumping in the show ring without any knowleadge. Im sorry if some of you think that im "extremely un-educated" i did know when my bitch was coming into season, i did know to seperate them, i do know about health testing. And of course im an inexperienced breeder, ive never breed before !!! and now i know that my bitch can come into season at 6 months. Its great to know that theyre are some poeple who are willing to help and give advise without grilling somebody. we all started somewhere !!!!!!

yes they both are pedigrees on main register, i am a registered breeder and i tryed putting them next to each other but my boy just sulks evan more. but id rather not take the risk, of any mishaps happening. thanks for all the feedback, and yes. she still is baby and she will not be breed or not at all, untill she is 2 and same with my boy, and all is well and they are a suitable pair. im only new to be a registered breeder but i have plenty of support and a great mentor. my nan is a registered breeder of pembroke corgi's for over 30 years and i also work at dog boarding kennels.

hi, i have 2 king charles at home, they are only puppies and i have brought them with the intention if all health test and temperament is right, to breed when the time is right. i was going to ring our local vets but its a bit late so i will ring in the morning. i thought i had more time to prepare for this, but ive just discovered that my 6 month old puppy is coming into season i didnt reliase that this was evan possiable. and i also have a male who is only 17 weeks old. ive seperated them instantly but oscar seems to be having a hard time, without his campanion. is it evan possiable for my oscar to be fertile at such a young age? just curious as to whether they can play together supervised. dutchess ( my girl) has doggie panties on so he cant get to her but i dont want to take the chance, if he could be fertile.

this puppy is indeed from a registered breeder, i wouldnt buy from anyone else, he comes with pedigee papers and all health testing is done. i was just concerned whether the marking would fade, it is for pet home only but i had my heart set on the black and tan colour, she said that the mother had white on her feet and chest and has faded within time and she things that the pup might as well. is the pup classed as tri instead of black and tan, or is it just a mismarking!!
-
hi, im interested in a black and tan cavalier puppy, ive contacted a breeder and she has one, but it has white on the chest. she assures me it will fade, is this true!!!!

Did You Buy Your Puppy From A Less Than Reputable "breeder"?
melstar-36 replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
my first dog was a labrador from a byb, she's still alive and kicking 12 years down the track. never had any problems with her, the only thing the vet can see wrong with her, is that "im killing her with food", she isnt extremely over weight, just a little fat. but i got lucky, i would never buy from a byb ever again, im in the process of waiting for my puppy to be born, from a breeder but again on the other hand... which i still get , my parents brought a sharpei from a breeder, a rather " high up there breeder" ( i wont mention names) from victoria, she lived to 9 months and had to be put down because of a heart mummer, the vets said she would of known when polly had her first vet check. my mother was sooo upset, she payed good money too. mum rang the breeder, she could care less..... , mum asked for some of her money back.. the breeder than hung up and wont answer any emails or calls. but each to their own, a dogs health is never 100% but id always go with a reputable breeder. i think that more regulations should be enforced on local shires. we went to a pet shop a few towns away the other day, when i asked where all the puppys and kittys are, she replied that its now against the local shire law to be BYB, you can not register your family pets unless there desexed or have papers. therefore no cross bred or puppy farm dogs that was in morwelll, vic -
im already thinking of a second one, but i need to control myself. just one ..... for starters. and "betty" is due to be delievered on christmas day, so fingers crossed that theres atleast one girl in the litter and a tri. i couldnt bare to wait another year before they breed again. the count down is on only 2 weeks and 3 days to go but i reackon it will be the 8 weeks untill i get her that will drag on forever any tips for when i get her??? ive always owned labradors, ive reasearched the breed for nearly a year, so i know a bit. but im sure ive still got alot to learn.
-
yes her name is barney, lol. im a flinstones fan and new puppy will be called betty after the flinstones too
-
thanks jules, its been along time coming!!! we have a 12 yr old lab, we love her to bits and has always been a HUGE part of our family, she was there when i finished school, got a fulltime job, moved out, fall in love and had 2 kids. and unfortunatly she doesnt have much left in her , she's my 2 year olds best friend- nobody else can feed her, sit next to her in the car or evan hold the lead when we go for a walk. as a matter of fact she said "barney" before she said her sisters name, lol.

thank you to everybody who replied to the post BUT to conclude to the question in the start- YES regalbourne cavaliers are breeders, its not a scam. YES she does breed quality pups. YES they are checked for any problems. YES i feel confident that this is the right breeder for me!!!! i would like to say sorry to baker for doubting her, it was only because of what happened in the past, that i was being very caustious, and im extremely excited about bringing a regalbourne puppy in my home, i wish that all breeders were like you THANK YOU
-
oooooooo, i didnt realiaze that ;) well dont i feel abit silly. i only offered so that she would realiaze that im not wanting to turn puppy into a baby machine. just aswell she said she believed me and didnt feel the need for a contract. thanks for pionting that out guys, ive have read some threads and some people have been very nasty. but as i said ive got alot to learn and lesson one- you cant show a nedured dog in shows cheers
-
i contacted the cccq yesterday and yes, she is a registered breeder. she has offered to send me the copies of the parents medical checks and also has given me references of people who have purchased a puppy from her. and my answer to why buy a dog from queensland, is that the breeders that i have contacted from victoria have been "suspecious" of my reason for wanting a puppy on main registeration papers ( not saying that there all like that), im wanting to have a try at showing puppy, ive offered to go on a neturing contract and i could understand why some breaders are stand-offish. my answer to them was if i was a byb wouldnt i just buy a dog without of papers and not be worried about health issues. im a keen learner and i dont want to show all the time, i cant because i work for a lady at boarding kennels and she shows her springer spaniels, just want to have a go at the local shows. please i dont want any critzism of people, everybody on this forum who shows there dogs, would of had to off started somewhere. i have alot to learn about the cavalier breed and i think i will be getting a regalbourne cavalier, she has been extremely helpfull and i know that evan though we would be states apart from each other, that she would be more than accomadating with puppy
-
i just havent found the right breeder yet and this lady seems delightful, its a shame shes in queensland. thats why im asking whether anybody knows her and her dogs. we are only discussing me purchasing a puppy from her, i havent said yes yet!!! i may seem fussy but i just want to make sure im getting the right puppy. her dogs are pedigree's and pup comes with papers, health insurance and yes they are tested and have good bloodlines.
-
who should i contact if she is registered in queensland, i know we have the vca in victoria?
