Hope I am knot breaking any rules here but thought this would be relevant to those wanting to have a career change or simply just want to know how take better photographs of their dogs. I am helping out with the promotion of a couple of pet photography workshops to be held in Melbourne in June and September By Shannon Plummer of Wet Nose Fotos. For those of you who are quite experienced but have many friends always asking for tips and tricks you might want to pass on this link http://www.wetnosefotos.com/pet-photography-workshops/ p.s doggy models on the day are from a rescue org and photos taken on the day will aid their adoption potential.

Off-lead Dog Parks With Lights - Sydney, Inner West
GregW replied to skully's topic in General Dog Discussion
I only know of one park in Ashfield, but not having been there at night wouldn't be able to tell what the lighting is like? http://www.offleash.com.au/content/cadigal-reserve I investigated the one park in Ashfield - Cadigal Reserve, a few years ago. It was poorly lit and downright creepy. The dog area had a bunch of rusty spray paint cans strewn around. It was intersected by huge half drains which led into neighboring bushland (semi-fenced). I complained to Council and suggested a planned park near me. They said too bad, so sad, that's all you get. The planned park will be a kids' play area. Not a pro-dog council. I asked a dog person who appeared at Cadigal if they ever met any other dogs there. They said 'no'. Says a lot. Hawthorne Reserve is nice in the day BUT recent experience has been bad - meeting out of control, poorly supervised aggressive dogs with bogon owners. Cadigal reserve sounds like a dump, I retract my comment, thanks for letting us know. -
Went to get the 30 & 17-50 today, all gone so ordered them and should expect tuesday can' t wait. Already started thinking about 85 or a 70-200.

This pretty much sums up why I take our lab to a particular kennel. Playtime was monitored and dogs were assesed when and whom could play with, were given a lengthy tour, meet the staff, answered all our questions, we're asked if would like the dog to share, which we agreed to Even shown an emergecy plan in case of a bush fire. Since then have never had any concerns. Genuinely feel that our dog will be safe and secure. In fact I prefer they go there instead of friends or family. Judging by otther posts must be lucky to have found a place that I can trust.

What To Do When Your Dog Is Scared At The Park?
GregW replied to Bear&Duke's topic in General Dog Discussion
sadly, when out in public other dog owners will not have the common sense that a responsible dog owner has in a off lead or on lead environment. My simple bit of advice is that if you are particularly fond of this park, go really early in the morning, I find the calmness and freshness of the morning great time to be just you and your dogs because more often the anti socials are still snoring away in their beds :D -
Perfect explanation, thank you very muchly, I am very clear now on how having this combo would suit and yes have had a look at tonne of groups , POTN, flickr etc but much prefer to get advice from a dog lovers perspective :D

Hi kja, I really enjoy looking at your blog, can u point me in the direction of any particular pics of yours where the 30mm 1.4 was a much better option than say using the zoom. Am keen to see what type of possiblities this lens could offer me.
-
Hi Helen, True, but its having the 1.4 ability of the 30mm to do some more creative open wide stuff thats appealing. I had contemplated the 85 but its too long for what I want to shoot at the moment which is mostly photojournalist stlye pics for my website or the kids being themselves indoors My dilemma is finding a 2.8 wouldnt cut it for indoors and would end up buying this lens separately for $100 more later I have a attached are a couple of pics taken on the Tamron ( on Canon 100D) which I why I am definately getting the 2.8 zoom. Sigma pics where same quality but these two captures where my favs. Cheers

I am just about to drop some cash on the 17-50 2.8 OS . I borrowed both the tamron 2.8 equivalent and Sigma and was impressed with the both the quaility of pics. The reason why I am going Sigma evem though its more expensive is the Tamron AF was to noisy ( sigma is near silent )and didnt have IS. Also the tamron can have slight lens wobble in which some screws work themselves loose after some time. This Tamron had it and it was off putting. I am also contemplating to combine it with the Sigma 30mm 1.4 prime as I can get a better deal for both. I have heard great things about the 30mm especaily if you have a crop frame camera. Would 17-50 and a 30mm make a great combo?? I quite like the idea of 30mm for indoor pets and kids/parties and experimenting and the 17-50 as general walk around or outside pet and kids stuff.

Gapvic And Anyone Else Heres A Few Of My Creations!
GregW replied to kritta's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Hi Kritta, These are great shots! I am having a similar dilemma atm with wanting somehting a bit more wider than my Canon 50mm 1.8. Not sure if should get wider prime or a 2.8 24-70 zoom which would give me wide but ability to get more distance from subject if needed. Your examples are the type of shots that I am wanting to achieve Excuse my ignorance but is this 35mm 1.4 by Canon? Greg -
+ 1 for labrador but I'm biased :D Least? If I had to choose the breed to least likely own, It would be a cattle dog ( I know very unaustralian ) purely becuause every one I seem to meet has the crazy eye, you know, are they going to lick me or bite me? and its weird as it just seems to be cattle dogs?

At times when we use a boarding kennel, Zoe doesn't even look back to wonder why I am not going with her, too exited she will have a room mate for next week or so.
