Advice On Puppy Health Before I Buy . Please Please.
Allerzeit replied to frank's topic in Puppy Chat
The only words of advice I could give you are RUN AWAY! Vaccination in the leg instead of the back of the neck??? Too hard to give the vaccination in the scruff of the neck?? What a load of cow droppings. Typically a dogs leg is shaved when an IV is inserted - this dog has most likely had an IV, possibly either due to illness or to being given anaesthetic for some reason. The eyes do not sound normal. I'm wondering if entropian and ectropian are issues in Labs and Goldys? Are you aware that Labs and Goldens should be x-rayed to be confirmed clear of hip dysplasia before being used for breeding? It is almost certain that this will not have been done for the parents of these puppies. Sorry - but it sounds like this pup is just waiting to bring in huge vet bills. Stay away from unethical breeding practices - including buying BYB cross bred pups from a pet shop. Otherwise, you're just asking for trouble.... ETA: I note you've already been advised on this forum to steer clear of pet shop puppies - obviously that was not advice you were interested in receiving? -
Thanks guys. Anne - that's Abby's dad, my husband The saddest thing is that we were just moving the sheep, and OH kept unintentionally giving Abby commands

My poor little "sheepdog in training", what are we going to do without you It's taken me 3 days to work up the courage to come here and post your tribute, losing you was such an unexpected shock. You arrived at our house in January 2005, a tiny, fluffy baby. My very first "not-a-rott". You settled in so quickly, immediately bonding with Enya, who would be your bestest buddy until the day you died. Throughout your life, your biggest loves were: Your dad - such a bond the two of you had. Dad is lost without you, you were his shadow and his constant companion - whether it was working with the sheep, carting water, putting out food for the sheep, mending fences, or just cuddling on the couch the two of you were never far from each other. Your sheep - you were never the greatest sheep dog in the world, but you looooved working with the sheep. I think even they will miss you. Your Enya - your bestest doggy friend. Enya is missing you so much Your intelligence always astounded me, your affection always made me smile. So gentle, so very clever, so vibrant. How can you be gone? 2 years is not enough, and we just don't understand why you were taken from us. RIP my beautiful Cookie Monster, find Stewie he will show you around the rainbow bridge. We love you and will all see you again someday.

New English Staffy Puppy Questions - Toilet Training And Registration
Allerzeit replied to RobbieRules's topic in Puppy Chat
Firstly, welcome Secondly, where are the photos? We live on photos, so please feed us Since staffy baby was purchased from a pet shop, it is almost certain that she is from a back yard breeder and that the price was jacked up for the sole intention of the pet shop making the biggest profit it could. There would be no recourse of action I can think of, and if your little girl was from a BYB then the chances of the bloodline even being known are slim. I'm curious - what papers did the pet shop provide you with? I read this a lot where people purchase a pup from a pet shop "with papers" and have often wondered what "papers" they are Oh, and did I say photos??? -
I had developed an interest in switching to a raw diet for probably around 12 months before we did, I thought it was all a bit too scary to make the leap after a lifetime of kibble and home made dog stew :D The catalyst for us was when Stewie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma. Immediately switching him (and everyone) to a raw diet, along with herbal medications was the first stage of our treatment for his cancer.

Oh, Hedds My heart aches for you. It is fitting that you have returned to this topic to bring it to its conclusion, I don't think anyone here would deny your right to publically farewell your beautiful girl. I remember this topic well, Hedds. Not long after you started it our Stewie was diagnosed with cancer, and reading your beautiful writing helped me in my grief for him. Stewie is at the bridge now, and I know he will keep an eye out for Jemma and show her around. RIP Jemma, another beautiful furry angel to watch from above

Feeding A 7 Week Old Rotti Pup (maybe Cross)
Allerzeit replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Looks like a cross, or at the very least a poor representation of the breed - pretty much what you'd expect from a BYB. The advice already given is pretty sensible, and it all sounds to be under control now? The classic black and tan markings seem to be a very dominant patterning - look at most breeds that have black and tan patterns (even when mixed with white, eg Bernese Mountain Dog) and the pattern will be essentially the same. Just because the pup has typical B&T markings, doesn't make it purebred Could be a Rotty x Dobe for all we know, and you would expect classic markings with something like that. -
RIP to little Red Collar girl, always snuggling with her mum during her short week of life. She unexpectedly left to join Uncle Stewie at the bridge at 7 days of age. It seems Stewie felt he was missing out and wanted a puppy of his own to play with ;) Enya and Red girl, a couple of days before she left for the bridge on the 7th of August Stewie, who left for the bridge on the 10th of May Hugs to all who have lost furkids, young and old, this year.

Cross the bridge swiftly Bronnie - you will find many friends to play with, and you will be in your prime again, full of youth and vitality. ;) griff - I know how much your heart is breaking right now, take comfort that Bronnie will watch over you from the bridge and that you will meet him again one day.

Yes, I'd love to see a photo of the little pumpkin...

Now, THAT is something I want to see a photo of

Do you have water available for her to access at all times??
-
I hope you'll contact your breeder and explain the jaw to them so that they aren't trying to work out where the undershot bite came from. ETA just did a quick Google search, if you go to this page and look at the diagrams down the right hand side you will see the difference between overshot and undershot http://clubs.akc.org/stca/illustrated_standard-Pg6.htm

Herding With A Rotti And A Gsd
Allerzeit replied to wylie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yes guys - definitely do this. I'm of the understanding the the NRC[A] is already trying to organise submissions to have Rottys included on the list, but their involvement is determined by what the individual clubs want to do, which in turn is driven by member demand. -

What Type Of Yoghurt?
Allerzeit replied to spoilt lab lives here's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We use Jalna natural yoghurt. In fact, with a litter of 7 puppies who have just turned 8 weeks old, I think I own shares in Jalna at the moment! -
Bleeding a little from where???? How long ago??

Double Post
-
Oh cavNrott, I'm so sorry to hear your news May you fly swiftly to the bridge Chance, and run free of pain.
-
We had the same sort of reaction from Stewie - within 2 days of starting him on Metacam he had horrible diarrhea and vomiting. Ironically I had decided to shift him onto Metacam as I was concerned about him being on Rimadyl, although he'd shown no adverse side affects on Rimadyl. We immediately ceased using the Metacam, and put him back on Rimadyl, which he remained on until he went to the bridge. He was just one of those dogs that reacted badly to Metacam yet had no problem with Rimadyl, whereas other people have had horrible reactions to Rimadyl. Different dogs react differently, and the risk of side effects is always there.

She's only 4 1/2 weeks old??
-
VDK - looking at those photos, she may be purebred, and just not a good representation of the breed standard, or she may be crossed with something lanky and the Rotty is showing through primarily. It's really a bit hard to make any definitive comment through photos and looking at a young puppy.
-
Hi VDK Definitely photos, please  Ok - long face, lanky build. I would suggest this is either to her being a cross breed, or just conformation that doesn't meet the breed standard, likely combined with her age and being desexed (assuming she is desexed). Here's a growth chart for you - take it with a grain of salt though, there are so many variations in the way puppies grow that you can't look at a chart and say, "Yep, she's a Rottweiler". http://www.vkwrottweilers.com/rottweiler-growth-chart.htm I would suggest that the Rotty owning vet does not have a particularly extensive knowledge of the breed. Based on photos I've seen through the years, in my opinion, there used to be some obvious style variation. I noticed that English bloodlines often seemed somewhat wet and mastiffy in the face, American bloodlines often seemed somewhat longer and lankier, German bloodlines often seemed somewhat stockier and squarer. These days, this style variation is not as common - certainly I no longer see it in photos of well bred international dogs. Poor breeding (that is not breeding to the recognised breed standard), often results in Rottweilers with the long, lanky appearance, and this is more likely to be the case with your girl as opposed to her being an "English Rottweiler" or a "German Rottweiler" or a "Timbuktoo Rottweiler" Did I say photos?
