  1. Puppy in Group for Angelsun and her lovely German Pinscher
  2. Puppy in Group 6 - Abrolhos King of the Pride (Neo in my sig, below) Neo was also BOB Rotty, which was not the plan - he was meant to let Uncle Radar take the challenge because Radar only needs 14 points for his title, which we were hoping to get this weekend. True to form, Neo chose this weekend to start beating his Uncle in the challenge line up :)
  3. Hee Hee Well, as far as grooming goes, there is very little preparation - a wash the day before, a spritz and a wipe down before you go in the ring to give the coat a shine and that's about it. Some people will trim coats and tails if they need it as well, just to neaten up the dog. For training there are a few things to teach your dog: - How to trot smoothly next to you without tripping you up, practice in both a triangle formation (with the dog on the inside of the triangle) and an "up and back", teaching the dog to turn the corners with you so you don't crash into each other - To be examined - the dog needs to learn to stand still while a stranger goes over him, checks teeth and testicles (for a male), runs hands all over the dogs body, cradles dogs head in their hands, lifts dogs feet, etc. - To stack - you need to teach the dog to stand square and to maintain that stand. Head up, looking attentive and alert, not standing like a slug. For specialties you also need to learn how to show your dogs teeth. The vast majority of specialty judges will not touch the dog at all, and that includes to look at the teeth - they will expect the handler to show the teeth - bite first, then all the teeth on one side, then the other, then open the mouth wide - this is a bit of an art if you've never done it before - between holding your dog, keeping your dogs head still while you manipulate his mouth and keeping your fingers out of the way so that the judge can see all the teeth easily - so should definitely be trained and practiced before showing Also for specialties it's a good idea to get your dog used to changing handlers on the move, so that you can change handlers if there is a lot of running. Think of the dog as the baton, and you have to pass the dog to another handler while you are on the move, and you have to be able to take the dog from another handler while running as well. The dog needs to be used to this happening and you need to practice it so that you can change handlers smoothly without breaking the dogs stride. Finally, again for specialties, find out what turns your dog on, and gets him fired up and practice having someone else "bait" the dog with this magical thing so that he free stacks and looks a million bucks - when your dog is being critiqued you will normally hold the lead while someone else (or multiple someone elses) stand in "clown corner" and bait the dog up so that he puffs himself up and stacks freely. This is "double handling", which is not allowed in the all breeds ring, but is the norm at specialties
  4. Training wise or "making pretty" wise?
  5. She sounds pretty normal to me :p There is a reasonably large allowable height range - between 56cm and 63cm for bitches, she may be on the smaller side of the acceptable range, but she doesn't sound undersized to me. Who is telling you that she is small? A lot of people who are not experienced in the breed do tend to think that a normal sized bitch (or even a normal sized dog sometimes) is "small" because they have an expectation that Rotts should be huge. I've lost count of the number of times people have come up to me when I have my dogs with me and tell me in no uncertain terms that they, or their mate, have/had a rotty who was much, much bigger than mine - this is normally accompanied by them holding their hand up to waist height to indicate that their Rottweiler was the size of a small horse
  6. We watched Hachi last night, and I can definitely agree with the above comment! Gorgeous dog(s) (I'm sure I saw the dog as a bitch sometimes and a dog other times - multiple dogs playing that character?), and as for the tear ducts... well, from the halfway point onwards I couldn't stop crying! Even a good 15 minutes after the movie stopped I was still crying thinking about Hachi and what he did OH never cries at movies - he watched Eight Below and Marley and Me without a hint of a tear (and both of those make me bawl, too), but he couldn't contain the tears with Hachi, he was crying into the tissues as well by the end! Such a very emotional movie, and the bond between Hachi and Richard Gere felt so natural and true. Damn, I'm welling up again now
  7. The only requirement through the ANKC is that hips and elbows be x-rayed before a litter can be registered, they don't care what the scores are. The National Rottweiler Council (Australia) has further guidelines in place, but they only affect breeders who are members of an NRC(A) affiliated Rottweiler club (and only relate to hip scores at this stage, I believe). None of this means that a breeder will breed with an elbow score of 3, that would depend on the breeder. ETA: I would be interested to read the post you are referring to, if you could point me to it please?
  8. Great response that echoes my thoughts very closely. I would never consider an incidence of SAS in a litter that I bred to be something that I would just overlook. I am shocked and disgusted by any breeder who produces a litter with an appearance of SAS and then just writes it off as nothing to worry about and repeats the mating. By researching. Any responsible and ethical breeder will research their proposed breeding to death before they actually do the breeding. Most breeders rabidly collect pedigrees and research those pedigrees for their general breed knowledge and future breeding plans. We keep our ears to the ground, we hear about others experiences - such as your own - and that all goes into our research pool.
  9. Funny!! I love how the race caller had fun with the whole thing and really got into the name - good on him!
  10. Here's my attempt - not perfect, but about the best I can do with a quick play - see what you think I started with this tutorial http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/peteyes/peteyes.htm - but I also do touch ups beyond what is in there to try and get a more natural effect. Some photos are easy to fix, others are pretty much impossible - it depends on how much glow there is and how much of a closeup the photo is. It's harder to pick "fixes" when it's not a closeup! :D
  11. Yep, we will be there Haven't done entries yet, but I have them marked in my calendar to do :D The grounds for these shows are among the best we've shown at, always well worth the entry
  12. Well, we are back home - couldn't hang around after the group judging unfortunately, which I was bummed about :D I hope everyone is doing well, or did well if they are finished for the day! Radar won Challenge Dog and RUBOB, which was good - 86 points now, so we are definitely on the downhill run I wanted to also check - is there anyone who was entered who had either 3 or 4 exhibits and only got one entry pass? We had 3 dogs entered, and only got 1 pass so had to spend our lunch money on paying an entry fee that we shouldn't have had to pay (according to Reg 3.4.3.10 two passes are required to be provided to exhibitors if they have 3 - 4 exhibits entered). It was a good thing I even had a little bit of cash with me - normally I make lunch and coffee to take and would be lucky to even have a few gold coins with me - if I'd done that today, then we wouldn't have been permitted into the show
  13. Well of course! Because bears in the wild would never think of doing "it" with other bears that shared the same grandparent Pack of raving lunatics!
  14. We give Rotty pups an extra killed parvo vaccination as babies - pretty much for the reason that Working Dog Lover stated, which has the potential to make them more prone to Parvo as youngsters. So, we do a normal vaccination routine and then add in a killed parvo vacc at 6 months. As adults, we don't vaccinate them any differently to any other breed of dog and our dogs are only vaccinated every 3 years.
  15. So true! I absolutely avoid stopping anywhere on the way home In my bright blue slacks and bright multi-coloured shirt I'm sure I look like Bozo the Clown in the "real world" Funny clip!!
  16. Oh - and we need to con someone into holding a dog for us outside the ring - so any volunteers?
  17. Me, me, me We have Radar, Feonix and Neo entered ;)
  18. Enya (Rotty) - named after the musician Enya Molly (Border Collie ) - no reason, it was just the name that OH wanted and her breeder was happy to call her whatever we wanted. Her pedigree name is Woolly's Molly 3rd and I can't decide if it's a regal name or a silly name Feonix (Rotty) - just loved the name Pheonix, but it was an F litter and a girl so I changed the spelling to Feonix, but she gets called Fi Fi (great name for a Rottweiler! ) Radar (Rotty) - well, we had originally planned to keep Radar's brother who we went ahead and had microchipped with the "F" name we had planned to keep for our boy. By the time we changed our mind and decided to keep Radar instead we were stuck with the fact that he had a different pedigree name, which OH didn't like, so we had to pick another name for him, and Radar is the only name I could get OH to agree on Neo (Rotty) - from The Matrix He is the chosen one (Edited for spelling)
  19. How terrifying!! What a relief that she has recovered. ;)
  20. My goodness - please at least phone them before you think they aren't communicating with you because they didn't respond to a text message. Not everyone is great with mobile phones, not everyone carries there phone with them 24/7 and even knows that they got a text message as soon as it was sent - gawd knows, I'm a great one for leaving my phone in my bag or the glovebox of the car and finding text messages days later! I agree that you should be given an explanation of the current situation, but don't assume an unanswered text message is anything sinister
  21. Bad Cuz Kong Wubba Tuffie Ring Pup Treads Tyre Oh - and anything vaguely resembling a tug rope We used to have a Wacky Wobbler, which lasted ages and was one of Enya's all time favourite toys, until she had puppies and they chewed all the wobbly bits off I can't even find the Wacky Wobbler toy these days, but it looked like this:
  22. That's what I do when spammers really piss me off, along with emailing them to tell them that I have reported them to ACMA. If nothing else, it satisfies anger at their spamming Although with these guys, since there is a phone number available, I would probably pay for the phone call just so I could tell them in person that they have been reported I have no idea how effective reporting to ACMA really is, but it's just nice to put the wind up the spammers for a change (or to at least think that I have put the wind up them)!
  23. Challenge dog and BOB for Radar, Challenge bitch and RUBOB for Feonix - and Aust Bred in Group for Radar, so we are pretty happy :D When we arrived and saw the downpour and the drowned grounds we wondered what the hell we were doing, but the rain stopped and the water mostly soaked away - so apart from a bit of mud, and being humid, it ended up a pretty decent day
