Interesting article, thanks for posting it While I appreciate the point that is being made, the movement of the Rottweiler - that of an effortless trotting dog - is to do more with the ability of the dog to drove stock for countless hours rather than to do with his ability to be a guard dog

Yep, because I was told they were not good ones for allowing more dogs - but if they are more city based then we would be unlikely to be looking at any properties in their areas anyway - middle of nowhere is about right for us One of the places we are looking at is in Strickland, and that was certainly pretty middle of nowhere when I had a look at it last October :D Thanks for the advice

OH and I are in the process of trying to sell our house with plans to relocate to Tasmania. Once we get an offer on this place I will have to throw OH on a plane so he can head down south and check out properties for us so we can purchase something as soon as possible after selling to keep settlement dates as close as possible to each other. So, to prepare for this, I'm trying to put together a list of council areas in Tassie which are good with granting kennel licences and those which are "no hope in hell" when it comes to having more than 2 dogs, so that we know which council areas to avoid At the moment I have Central Highlands in my good list and Brighton and Clarence in my don't even think about it list. Can any Tassie people offer other suggestions on which council areas are good and which ones to avoid? We are looking at a minimum of 40 acres, if that makes a difference with any of the councils, and will need to get a kennel licence for 5 - 6 dogs. Thanks for your help guys :p

Enya wear boots on her front feet when she goes walking or to training - she has an old injury that has resulted in a very flat foot and she gets footsore on any ground that is even slightly rough. She has a pair of these http://www.topdogs.com.au/products/Muttluk...-Dog-Boots.html and she's been using them for around 12 months I guess. OH keeps the leather soles conditioned and they are holding up really well. I would probably try the Ruffwear ones when she wears these ones out, not because I'm not happy with the ones she has now, but just because I want to try the Ruffwear ones as well

A minor brag compared to the work some of the wonderfully advanced dogs do in obedience and agility, but one that has tugged my heart strings My 7 1/2 year old girl, Enya, managed her second CCD pass today Around 4 years ago Enya serverly damaged her foot by putting it through a window, resulting in the loss of control to the two middle toes and a very flattened foot. This causes her to become footsore very easily and as she is aging, she is getting sorer in her foot. Some local people will have seen her as the small, cuddly, Rotty with the booties Her foot injury prematurely ended her Conformation career on a score of 72 points So, we switched to obedience. 12 months ago she got her first CCD pass, which was a thrill for us both. Then, in August last year she competed in her next trials and she was just too sore I felt awful for making her compete at all, even though she loves doing obedience, and I retired her. Over the past few months we have started doing obedience again, because come Wednesday night she would be a pain (Wednesday night is obedience training night) if she didn't get to go, and her lameness has much reduced thanks to Jointguard and her boots. I made the half reluctant decision to give it one last bash for her to see what would happen. Well, yesterday was her first trial back - she lagged badly in the heeling and totally missed her recall. I could have cried, thinking again that I was pushing her foot too much. Today, in Albury - earlier in the morning, cooler temperatures, and with more time spent revving her up, playing and cuddling before we went into the ring - and giving it a try with her boots off because the grass was lovely and soft and springy - she performed beautifully and achieved a glorious pass of 91/100 and placed 1st in the CCD ring. She had a wonderful time and is now totally crashed out on the bed Thanks Corowa and Albury for again running such well run trials. Albury, we will be back in July to try and get that final pass

Pet Peeves ;) It's pronounced Rott-wyler NOT Rott-wheeler or Rock-wheeler! In fact, if you want to be really correct, it's pronounced Rott-vyler. Calling my dog a Rottwheeler or Rockwheeler will cause my brain to explode! No, my dogs are not going to "turn" and suddenly become vicious. No, my dogs are not "minature" rottweilers because they are not HUGE like "your mates" "rockwheeler", which was apparently the size of a great dane. My dogs are actually the correct size. Other General Info Rottweilers love to lean on you, sit on you, or just be generally touching you. Yes, they do think they are lap dogs for their entire life... Rottweilers are not "barky" dogs, they typically bark very little, unless they are guarding or playing. If your rottweiler starts barking, it's a good idea to check it out because they don't bark without good reason. As well as being used for herding and guarding purposes, rottweilers were also once commonly used as draught dogs and would pull carts containing produce. As others have mentioned, rottweilers of the correct temperament are typically very good with children - in fact it's even mentioned in the breed standard

She would be double muscled, I would assume? They had a program on the ABC a while back that featured double muscled cattle - its a genetic mutation from memory - quite freaky looking!

Don't worry, I'm one of those people who struggles to hold back tears when I drop the dogs into boarding - I'm sure they get it all the time from tough people like us! I was as bad as you, I took toys for the kids and asked that they share a kennel, and the staff were wonderful about it ;)

Bit of a long shot, but thought I would give it a go anyway: Yesterday, my OH lost his sunglasses - they are sort of wrap around'ish with black and red frames. They were left on the top of the big blue bin at the Utility ring, and he forgot to grab them after our breed, then when he went to get them about 15 minutes later they were gone. If anyone spots a pair of sunnies with black and red frames, could you please let me know? Our tent is at the Utility ring, we have Rotties (well, duh!) and I will be hard to miss in my bright blue pants and brightly coloured blouse (my clown clothes ). Thanks everyone
