My step grand-daughter - 19 years old - is wanting to become a vet nurse, but she has found that she needs to be working at a vet surgery before she can get into a vet nursing course... Any advice on how she can go about this? I understand that it's a hard career to get into, and from what I've been told, she needs to be doing 15 hours of paid work per week. She is currently doing the rounds contacting surgeries, including offering to do volunteer work initially before any paid work if needed, but without luck so far. Can anyone offer any advice on steps she should take to get her foot in the door? Or does anyone work for, or know of, a surgery in Melbourne who might be interested in taking on a trainee / receptionist / assistant / general drudge who is wanting to start studying as a vet nurse? Thanks  ETA: Hmmm, she's just told me that she needs to be working as a vet nurse before she can study to be a vet nurse, not just in any general capacity! How are you meant to get into a course to get a qualification if you have to be working in that job without said qualification? Do surgeries take on un-qualified vet nurses? I know 20 years ago I was able to walk in the door and get a job as a vet nurse without experience or qualifications, but that was 20 years ago and in Adelaide.

We were fogged in pretty much all day - and it seems I have an OH with "kennel cough" as well, so it's probably a good thing that he wasn't out in the wet getting more miserable Ohh yes, please! That would be great, thanks Sounds like a plan :D When we came down from Devonport we turned off at Melton Mowbray to Bothwell, and then we were meant to go from Bothwell to Hamilton and up the Lyell highway. I was following OH, and he turned off from Bothwell to Ouse instead 30 km of horribly windy, unsealed goat track with two full trailers was not fun! Next time it will be Hamilton, Bothwell, Melton Mowbray and up or I will kill him! ;) -

Right, we're officially out Rain aside, Neo has a crook stomach and I've been up and down letting him in and out over the last two hours. Don't know what he's eaten, but he's needing to go outside every 10 minutes and I can hear his stomach gurgling from across the room. Not fair to drag him to a show when he's not happy. -

After the 4 1/2 hour drive it took us to get from Devonport to here a few weeks ago, I think my chances of convincing OH to head north again are somewhere between buckleys and none Hopefully I can get him travelling further afield later, but even in Vic I struggled to get him to go to shows that were much more than an hour away :D We will be making a decision in the morning depending on how it looks, but the weather forecast isn't looking good for showing (or for my white pants - dang having black dogs). What are Heartstrings, ellz? ;) -

We're entered in the Royal too Mid - Friday though, and Dogfest as well - so we will definitely catch up soon if not this weekend Don't go out of your way just for this weekend though, the weather predictions of heavy rain are starting to put me off going We will be there if it's not too wet, but I don't like dog showing enough to show in lots of rain -

Right, so I have to find ACD's, Basenji's, BC's and Flatcoats! If you see a short, round, lost looking woman wandering around with a Rotty - probably with long suffering husband and a second Rotty in tow - give me a yell, it will be me ETA: I hope your OH feels better soon flatchat - 3 weeks is a long time to be down with the flu, poor thing -

I think it would be a big loss to the pedigree dog world to lose someone with as much knowledge and experience as you have, but I can appreciate that it's a painful place for you to be at the moment -

Don't know about the cold weather, but I think we brought the rain with us - it feels like it's done nothing but rain up here since we arrived (or snow ) I'll have to find you Tassie - you're with the Hobart Dog Training Club aren't you? We need to arrange to get joined up and get the dogs back into training :D -

At the top of the first post in any topic, directly under the Add Reply and New Topic buttons, click on the Options button and select Standard - you will find that your view has been changed to Outline, change it back to Standard and all should be ok again This seems to happen at random to people, and gets asked about a lot in the help forum.

Yes, definitely. We are halfway between Albury and Wangaratta and we routinely get runs of temps in the 40's during summer. A good week long run in the low 40's is not unusual during the height of summer. Summer heat waves is not something I'm going to miss
