Well, you were right about her going early Yarrowfell! Fingers crossed everything goes ok

Good to hear that Mia's tummy has settled down Congrats on the babies Jerojath - big bubbas! :D They look like week old puppies in that newborn photo! We're busy building our new whelping box at the moment - Feonix is getting bigger by the day, I'm sure! 2 weeks to go... I'm starting to feel slightly terrified at the prospect of having a litter, it's been so long since our last one

Congrats on the bubbas! Fingers and toes crossed for your little one

Yay! Sending smooth whelping vibes your way

Oh my gawd, no! Doesn't even bear thinking about, that would just be a nightmare! Poor Mia, I'm sure she will bounce back Jetpoint Do you have any electrolytes that you could put into her water? We always have Vytrate sachets in the cupboard - it's just wonderful for keeping them hydrated when they have a crook tummy.

What's this Specialty dogs/bitches business?! A quality, well bred, sound dog competes successfully in BOTH the Specialty and All Breeds ring. Whilst I understand there can be a tendency for division amongst GSD's (Specialty v's All Breeds) I also know that a good dog WILL win in both rings. You should be more concerned about the GENERIC show dogs winning that are neither here no there!!! I didn't say "to avoid specialty dogs/bitches" - they were not my words - I said "to avoid competition". My words on the subject are that there are no such things a specialty or all breeds dogs, although I've heard the term used - I thought we were all just meant to be judged by one standard? I'd much rather have a dog that can do well in both because it is a good representation of the breed by the standard. No, you said "avoid competition where there may be Speciality dogs/bitches attending" so therefore, avoiding dog shows where there might be Specialty dogs/bitches. If you just meant "competition" in general then you'd not have mentioned Specialty dogs?! conztruct didn't say that - that was LuvMyGSD conztruct said "that exhibitors would travel long distances to avoid competition in order try and get challenges" - she didn't mention specialities at all. It was LuvMyGSD who said "avoid competition where there may be Speciality dogs/bitches attending"

Daaaaw - baby photos! Our name theme this time is Enya song titles This litter will be grandchildren to my heart dog, Enya, who I lost unexpectedly early this year - so I wanted the theme to have a connection to her

OMG, Yarrowfell!! Her poor little legs aren't going to be able to reach the ground for much longer Argh! Still nothing? Can't you tell her that we are all waiting on her to have babies?? :p Feonix at 6 weeks - not the most impressive belly in the lot, but she's actually very similar in size to what her mother was at 6 weeks, and that was a litter of 8 so I'm happy with how Fee is going

Of course anyone living in WA, Tasmania, the NT or remote from metro areas and specialty locations should have to haemorrhage financially to attend specialties - where they exist. Otherwise they lack "dedicaton". I find that patronising in the extreme. Well said I just found it extremely rude.............. Another "Well Said" from me I found it both rude and patronising.

Wow, Alyosha - love the photos I've never been able to get my head around the idea of being able to pick a litter of pups without ID collars Given that all of ours are identical little black rats when they're born, the first thing that happens after being born is a quick weigh and on goes the ID collar! Sorry to hear that you lost your little one TB Good to hear that the rest are all doing well
-
Good going!
-
And we're off! Smooth whelping thoughts to you, Alyosha!
-
We're not due until the end of the month, but you are more than welcome to use any photos I post After 20 years of using ribbons, I can't wait to try out the collars!

Argh! I saw an early morning post and thought we might have new babies! *sigh* A watched bitch never whelps

Yep, I'd have thrown the water on the aunt, not the dog!

Cost can be prohibitive for some. Late last year myself and another breeder took three dogs and a couple of puppies to Melbourne to compete under a breed specialist (yes, we did very well thank you). The cost just to hire the van for the weekend to transport us, our gear and our dogs was over a thousand dollars. That is not an expense I can go to very often and I don't think people should be looked down upon if their budget doesnt stretch to frequent interstate trips. Totally agree with this. It costs us around $1200 just to get to and from the mainland (car with dog trailer, plus accommodation on the ferry) - so that is the minimum cost just to get to a speciality in Melbourne. Extra in additional fuel costs if we wanted to go to a speciality anywhere other then Melbourne. While that might be doable for some, for others it's out of reach financially. We are aiming to try to get to Melbourne for one speciality a year - but at that price and on our income, we simply won't always be able to afford it.

I've seen it and experienced it - and we don't even show that often. Earlier this year my own bitch was refused challenge - she was slightly lame in the ring (we found out later that she had damaged a sesamoid), and was rightly refused challenge because of it. I didn't know she was lame before going in the ring, otherwise I would have scratched her - but I could feel her lameness as we ran around the ring, and although I was disappointed at having the challenge refused, I also understood and supported the judges decision.

No sorry, but Borzoi + very low belly does not compute Sounds like she's working her way there nicely, won't be long now - hopefully she will cook them for another day or two for you

And isn't that typical! How frustrating! With our last two litters - first one we wanted a girl, we had 3 boys and 1 girl - the girl was very plain, but matured nicely and turned out to become my beautiful Enya. The next one we wanted a boy, litter was 6 girls and 2 boys. This time we are wanting a girl, so we will see if we end up with a litter of boys! And how typical that your stillborn was a girl too - just makes you want to RIP little lost bubba

Oh Lord, she's so gorgeous! I think I'm in lurve! A few countdowns reaching the pointy end, how exciting!
