This is what we're still trying to establish, but I think it's the same as mumof4girls, started as motion sickness and that contributed to anxiety This is where we are with Nova as well - she did suffer car sickness as a baby, and to this day still gets very drooly in the car and hates travelling in it - we're still battling this at 11 months of age, and have tried most things. She no longer vomits (touch wood), but she still stresses herself to the point of nausea about it. She's the only dog we've had with a car sickness problem - yet she is the most outgoing and confident dog in every other way. My sympathies to all of you struggling with car sickness, it's such a pain to deal with and makes something that should be fun really unpleasant

How long is a piece of string? :) I've heard of bitches having their first season as late as 19 months. We have an 11 month old bitch here who hasn't had her first season yet, neither has her litter sister in Melbourne. Another of her litter sisters just started her first heat a few days ago.

Feonix was mated last year on, from memory, days 18 and 20 - she was so frustrating, considering I had to fly with her from Hobart to Melbourne - we seemed to spend forever prog testing until she finally started to climb!!

Unless I'm trying to point Woger at a car while being yelled at by Mr Trafford.... And trying to remember which is right and which is left whilst Mr Trafford gets grumpier and grumpier! Hey, I've been known to lead entire obedience classes astray by turning left when the instructor said right, and the rest of the class following me! Yes, definitely use a mirror if you can, or even a window if its dark outside and light inside so that you get good reflections, it makes such a difference when you can see how it looks to a judge, and be able to relate that to how it feels and looks from your perspective.

Unless I'm trying to point Woger at a car while being yelled at by Mr Trafford.... The kneeling down, hunching down behind a large dog one is a good one - I've done this for YEARS (not with every dog, but from time to time), and it's only since starting show training classes that I've learned how it can not only reduce my control, but also encourage my dog to A frame.

Thanks Rebanne :) Good results for you, congratulations! And I can't believe it's their birthday today, how the time flies! Happy birthday puppies

Can anyone with a catalogue please let me know what Rotts were entered? I know who would have been RUBIS and BIS (Ubersein Prince of Tides), but curious as to who else is showing up there these days, as it was our old stomping ground for 15 years :) I would really appreciate it :)

Nope, sorry. A cross of 2 purebred dogs will not necessarily result in a dog which is 50% like each breed it comes from. The dog could be more BC, it could be more Lab, it could look like a BC but have a lab temperament (or vice versa), it could be a combination of the best of both breeds, it could be a combination of the WORST of both breeds. People breeding cross bred dogs generally do not do health testing (in fact the majority of them wouldn't even know what health testing should be done), and are unlikely to have a good knowledge of the backgrounds of the dogs they are breeding with - it's a massive lottery, as you just won't know what is behind the parents of your pup. Ethical ANKC registered breeders do not cross breed dogs, it is against the COE that we agree to follow.

RIP lovely girl, watch over your humans until you meet with them again So very sorry, Noire. Our thoughts are with you and your family

Yep, Radar and Feonix have both had it - one cold, stormy winter night when they decided to play in the rain instead of stay in their shelter, cold water tails for both of them by the next morning.

Throwing bait to get your dogs attention in the ring - even worse throwing bait so that it hits the dog in front of you in the lineup - leaving your thrown bait on the ground when you walk out of the ring!

1. Should I tell a breeder early on that I'm looking for a companion dog, not to breed or show? Or is that irrelevant? Absolutely! This is totally relevant :) If a puppy buyer doesn't tell me this in their first contact, I will ask it as one of my first questions, as it's very important information to know. 2. Because I am not into showing dogs, does it matter if I'm not all clued up on titles & awards etc... My priority is a great breeder who loves animals & breeds happy, healthy pups. It wouldn't matter to me at all if you didn't know about titles and awards. 3. Is it appropriate to say if you are looking for a boy or girl pup? I'm quite happy for a breeder to actually pick a pup they think would suit our family best, but would like to pick the sex myself, although would take any advice onboard also. I don't see an problem with a puppy buyer having a preference for male or female, there are often very legitimate reasons for their preference, as long as they understand that I can't guarantee that I will be able to match them with their preferred sex, which it sounds like you do understand.

How Long Does It Take To Digest Food?
Allerzeit replied to *kirty*'s topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Fingers crossed it's all ok! -
I just wanted to comment on this. We have transported pups to puppy buyers interstate, last year we flew a couple of rottweiler pups from Hobart to Melbourne and the cost was around $200 each. A few years ago we flew a pup from Melbourne to Perth, and the cost was $300, again for a rottweiler pup. Now, this was a few years ago, and I'm sure it costs more now - but if you are getting quotes to transport that are equivalent to the purchase price of a pup, then you are being quoted very expensive transport!

Yes, I would be concerned, particularly if she is a toy eater. I have one of those, and it's a case of constant vigilance. -
Chicken! :p  Yep, this ^ :)

Yep, Pauls is the brand I was getting from the Woolies in NN last year, Rajacadoo - http://www.pauls.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=74&Itemid=82

I didn't have any luck with long life goat's milk - but I was able to buy normal goat's milk from Woolies last year when we had our litter. In the milk fridge, 1 litre carton which was green and white from memory. Of course, that doesn't mean they still sell it - this was almost a year ago, but just thought I'd mention it in case you had only tried finding long life :) PS: Looking forward to seeing little baby Basenji's! Swap you some baby Basenji's for Nova?

Love it! With mine, the bread wouldn't even have gotten onto the head - it would have been intercepted somewhere along the way
