  1. Maybe a stray Jersey bull got in with our sheep? I think I prefer the black though! Mr Stompy is far too cute for his own good!!
  2. Squeee too cute!! I miss having coloured lambies, but we only have white dorpers now. Mind you, we've just had our first two lambs born and they are both 3/4 ginger so the whole white dorper thing is going really well for us *insert Mr Rolly eyes*
  3. Thinking of you, and sending special prayers to Penny
  4. I always love these threads! So many gorgeous puppers! Poor little Toby with his leg I'll just do Nova for now, only because I just did this collection of photos for my Facebook page. Taken at 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and today, at 6 days shy of 1 year
  5. It's so sad I cringe when people ask what breed of dog we have, because I know that half the time the response is going to be negative. Fortunately, the other half who respond with how much they love the breed, make up for it! :)
  6. Temperament! They are not vicious dogs, and they will not "turn on you" when they become an adult.
  7. I have nothing constructive to add, but I just had to say DAMN but she is a cutie!!
  8. I agree, she looks a bit pot bellied to me, and I would be suspicious of worms.
  9. I think you have not met any chickens! :) You got that right pers! Throw a dead mouse in our chook pen and see the girls go mad! They LOVE dead mice, and will chase each other around, each trying to get a bit  We feed our girls leftover meat all the time, they love it and they need the protein :) No way would I fancy having a black out in my chook pen.....I don't think there would be much left of me, by the next day   Oh No! I never thought of it that way!

  11. The point is that the parents should have been tested - you now don't know what their status is, and if there are problems waiting to arise in your pup. A vet check won't necessarily pick up on problems that aren't symptomatic yet. I hope she stays healthy and isn't a time bomb waiting to happen, as happened recently to poor Owey and family.
  12. I'm with you PF- I don't really see a problem with the piece, there's a lot of sense in what she says, and I found myself nodding my head at most of it. I didn't even find it particularly rude, just straight up.
  13. You only have to look at the absolute heartbreak in the Sick Border Collie Puppy thread to see what can happen when breeders don't do the correct health testing. This poor family have had their lives turned upside down because this "breeder" didn't do the right thing, and probably didn't even know what the right thing to do was since they bred without proper research and education. Please ensure that the breeder of this pup is registered with the ANKC, does all the appropriate health testing on their dogs before breeding them (and actually KNOWS what health testing is needed...), and that they provide you with a sales agreement which clearly states what backup they will provide to you if something goes wrong (in terms of refunds, etc).
  14. Yes, agree totally! We always send out an email to all the new "mums and dads" a couple of weeks before the pups go to their new homes with information on feeding, etc so that people have time to get prepared before the big day :) I'm sure your breeder won't mind you finding out all the details in advance so that you can have everything ready :)
  15. We travel to Eastern Shore dog club for training on a Sunday - http://easternshoredogclub.com.au/, and they've been good so far :) We haven't used them for puppy socialisation, but they do have a puppy pen setup each weekend for puppy socialisation classes. They also do rally-o each weekend and say that they offer agility when the numbers call for it, but I think most people go to the Domain for agility. We started out going to the classes at the Domain, but we found the classes too large (therefore hard to hear the instructor, particularly for my hard of hearing OH), and the afternoon times just weren't convenient for us.
  16. There are heaps of country shows too where you won't have to travel as much - Albury, Wodonga, Corowa, Wang, Benalla, Shepp, Yarrawonga, Wagga, Junee and lots more in that general area :) We never used to travel to Melbourne for showing when we lived up there, unless it was to specialities (although we are also happy to only have a couple of shows a month, we don't look to show every weekend).
  17. Neo is a total pain when it comes to animals on the TV - growling, hackles, madly wagging tail, barking. He even knows the sound of commercials that feature animals that he likes to "get" - he will come running from another room as soon as the sound of "his" commercials start. Used to be funny, once apon a time, now it's just painfully annoying!
  18. Many breeds are prey driven, Rotties especially. I used to have Rotties and had no problems with my cats. One of my other dogs (Stafford) is very prey driven but no problem with my poultry or cats. It just comes down to the right dog and training. You are so right Clyde! One of the boys, Bruce, from our last litter was sold to a home with a cat. Bruce has grown up with Kenji the cat, and has been trained from day 1 that Kenji is not a play toy or something to chase. Of course, poor Bruce gets a bit of a raw deal sometimes....guess who the boss is?? Although, sometimes Bruce gets lucky and Kenji lets him share :p
  19. The problem for us is exacerbated by distance from everything - we're 60km from the closest main town and nearest vet, 100km from obedience training and dog showing - and the roads are windy and hilly, just designed to cause motion sickness. I think I would get pretty darn sick in the back of the car too!
  20. Tracking! Rotts loooove tracking! Have a talk to Rakaaz, she does lots of tracking with her lovely dogs :)
  21. You'd may need to allow more - although you might be ok at $1500. We sell our pups in that range, and I know of a handful of other breeders who sell at around $1500 (all breeders who I would be very happy to recommend), but more and more often I also hear of pups being sold at around $2000 - $3000, so I think that's probably a more common price range.
  22. Are they ever! This is the second time in a week or so where someone has wanted a rott, but family members have refused because they think the breed is aggressive I know that is a fairly broad perception in the public, but it's so far from the truth that it just breaks my heart. A correctly bred and raised rottweiler is a wonderful family member, with a stable temperament.
  23. Yeah, probably not the best idea in Summer, but like you said, you can just get changed before going in :) This is how it can look with white pants and a bright jacket with a black dog :) This was taken last weekend at around 1.30pm, white pants had been worn since 5.30am, but had track pants covering them for most of the day, still looking clean and bright :D Of course, a better body and head would have helped the look too - but you can only work with what you've got  - good thing Nova is pretty! You will want pants that are pretty resistant to creasing so they don't get all scrunched under your trackies, but you really want that for show clothes anyway - I got these from Vinnies - I think they are uniform type pants. ETA: OH, and Suitable Suits is another Facebook one - I got my green jacket for $15 from them, and have also purchased a couple of other jackets and skirts (if I ever get the courage to wear skirts...), and they are always cheap.
  24. Wear a lose pair of track pants over them, then simply strip the track pants off just before you go in the ring :D feels a bit wierd, but works a treat :)
  25. So buy coloured jackets and pair them with white pants :) I wear white pants and coloured jackets - emerald green is my current favourite jacket :)
