  1. Seeing so much RED right now!! A well bred Rottweiler will be gentle with, and tolerant of, children but this dog deserves a medal for her patience and self restraint!
  2. We have a collection of wooden boxes with name plaques, all sitting in our crystal cabinet. I also have some of Enya's fur inside of a memorial pendant, in the shape of a dog paw, and with her name engraved on the back. The pendant is designed for ashes, but I couldn't bring myself to play around with her ashes, so I put little clippings of her fur in there instead :)
  3. Ours are called by their nicknames more often than by their actual names  Radar = Gooby or Gooby Dog Feonix = FeeFee or Feef Nova = Smoosh or Smooshy or Smooshy Face (or any number of swear words, depending on the circumstances!) Neo = Doodie man or Doodie Molly = Bubba or Bubby Girl
  4. Funny story about obedience, black dogs and hot temps. My black Afghan took himself off to the shade in the middle of the down stay in a trial. The Judge and lined all the dogs up in the sun, he decided it was too hot in the sun and slowly got up, moved to the shade and resumed the stay. Perfectly sensible in my mind not so the judge. Pfft! I would have given him extra points for smarts!
  5. Pretty much anything over 30 degrees is too hot for me and the dogs to be running around outside. I don't love showing enough to bother with it when it gets to around that level :) Even obedience assessment last weekend - it was 27 degrees and I spent the entire time while waiting to go in for assessment trying to keep Radar shaded so he wouldn't be a wilted flower in the ring! Darn black dogs!
  6. Not according to the NSW Animal Welfare Codes of Practice for Breeding Cats and Dogs: http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0004/299803/Breeding-dogs-and-cats-code-of-practice.pdf Refer to page 24 - Section 9 - Transfer of ownership. Among other things
  7. It varies from council to council, and also on where you're located. For us, because we're rural we basically just had to be able to show that our dogs are safely contained and have weather proof sleeping areas. People in villages/towns have to demonstrate more detailed setups than what we do. For example - people in more populated areas (in our council area) have to meet the following criteria: We had to advertise in the paper before we could submit our application. Once the application was submitted and the time for objections had passed, our property was inspected, and then we received our letter of approval in the mail.
  8. I believe it's state legislation that more than 2 dogs requires a permit. We moved here just over 2 years ago, into one of the few council areas that didn't have limits (Central Highlands Council). Since then, our council has brought in kennel licences, more because they were required to implement it than because they wanted to (by their own admission). We're on 70 acres, and are required to have a kennel licence for more than 2 dogs, but fortunately our council are still very accommodating in granting licences :) Below is a link to the Dog Control Act 2000 - scroll down to Division 7 - Licences and you will find information about the number of dogs that can be kept :) http://www.thelaw.tas.gov.au/tocview/index.w3p;cond=ALL;doc_id=102%2B%2B2000%2BAT%40EN%2B20121027060000;histon=;prompt=;rec=;term=dog%20control%20act%202000
  9. I'm so, so sorry DR RIP Bison I've asked Enya to seek you out and show you around
  10. I had one done recently of Enya, by David Oakley at Rivid - https://www.facebook.com/RividStudio?fref=ts David is a wonderful person, incredibly talented and inspiring - I highly recommend him :) Here's Enya's portrait:
  11. Definitely vet - fingers crossed all is ok! :)
  12. Oh hells, Shek I'm so, so sorry to hear this Please give that handsome boy a cuddle from me
  13. We encourage our puppy buyers to offer suggested names, provided they fit into the theme for our litter. If they don't have suggestions, then we will also let them know a shortlist of names that we have already worked out, and they are welcome to choose from that list. Our last litter was Enya song titles, so we basically presented puppy buyers with a list of titles that we had shortlisted, and then let them choose their preferred ones :) The litter before that was an 'F' litter, so pretty much any suggested name was ok, provided it started with F and fit into the number of letters restriction.
  14. OMG Yes!! I've never though of it before, but absolutely  You have to have sneeze breaks in the middle of bitey face!
  15. For me, it is primarily to do with the bolded statement above.
  16. Oh No! Now I need to find the funds to get this one!! http://dannyquest.com/store/product/path/21_136/product_id/1782 It's my beloved Enya!!
  17. I agree with the previous comments :) I have no problem with puppy buyers asking during their first contact, as long as it's not the first or the only thing they want to know. If the question isn't asked, then I will tell them during that initial contact anyway.
  18. Please stop giving your dog the cold shoulder. You say it's for your benefit, not hers, but what you're doing is punishing her for being a dog.
  19. Oh dear Lord! I think I just died of cuteness overload!
  20. I demand a recount!! :p  Lovely to see photos - thanks! :D What a lovely little brood, and snuggles with mum, awwwww!
  21. My personal preference is to travel with the bitch to the dog for natural matings.
  22. Now, that would involve me having a brain that is actually functioning! :p Thanks for that :) See you next week :D
  23. Now that the Royal has started, I don't suppose anyone out there has a catalogue handy, and could tell me the number of Rottweilers entered next Friday, please? :)
