Semaphore Beach Walk - Sat 24th Sept - 8.30
whiskedaway replied to MsKatie's topic in General Dog Discussion
What do you mean about a beauty contest? Tomorrow's my bridal shower, that's why I can't go. And the only mock trial I'd go to would be Para's, but unfortunately the dates have clashed, because they're my club and that's where we do agility. -
Colour / Pattern / Markings - Importance?
whiskedaway replied to Aziah's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a preference for markings. I used to have a preference for colour, but having a show dog has made me appreciate different colours (and maybe I've become biased towards my lovely black and tan!) I like a dog to have a light face (though I have seen some stunning darkies), but if the dog that suited us the most was dark, I'd take it. -

Vet Comparsions - Am I Paying Too Much?
whiskedaway replied to Thelms's topic in General Dog Discussion
We paid over $500 to spay our 15kg girl. Actually she was 14.9kg at the time, so she was just under the cutoff for the next price range! So I think your price is fine. -

It's annoying they had to pick THIS Saturday to do the mock trial, cos otherwise I would have put Akira in. -
What Type Of Tinned Tuna

Another for homebrand sardines in oil here. And the oil doesn't upset my sensitive stomach dog's belly either. -
I had a judge that shortlisted then sent the rest of the group out and I was fine with it (though there were other exhibitors who weren't). I have a young dog (she's almost 10 months old and would have only been 7 months when this happened) and being a rare breed we're often the only one there and get to go in for group to make up the numbers. I can normally keep her attention for the group, but by the time we're back in for our class she's had enough, so I was more than happy to leave the ring and not have to keep standing there.

Bugger, would have loved to come but I have a dress fitting at 9:30 and I won't make it in time. -
Haha .... I've had this problem too! Have seen a number of items featuring my breed over the years but in my opinion hardly any of them were good examples of the breed and couldn't bring myself to buy them! LOL! At least you can get your breed!

In my house, Akira has never done anything and Halo takes all the blame. It's a personality thing - Halo is a much softer dog than Akira and thinks she's done something wrong if you talk in the right tone of voice. OH used to always say she was just a naughty dog and she was always guilty, until I showed him something. We hid inside the house and watched Akira digging a hole in the garden bed. Then I sent him outside when she'd stopped and he did his whole "who did this?" thing. Halo ran away like she was in trouble and acted in her typical "I'm so guilty" way, Akira stood there with a big grin on her face. Since then OH hasn't bothered trying to find out who's guilty - chances are, it's more than likely the naughty Sibe no matter who takes the blame!

New system sounds great. :D

Is anyone able to give me an ingredient list on this please? Website just gives the dietary breakdown, but I need to know what meat is used in it.

Getting A Dog And Stuck On Breeds, Advice Appreciated
whiskedaway replied to Ozone's topic in General Dog Discussion
The main rule of thumb is if people look busy grooming a dog, getting ready to go into the ring, then WAIT. Almost everyone will be happy to talk to you once we're done (because lets face it, we all adore our breeds and want to rave about them ), but it's best to wait until we're all relaxed and done. As Amanda said, group 5 is up the back as far as you can get from the buildings, and group 4 isn't far away either which are the two groups where most of the suggestions have come from. -

It's not expensive to fly a pup from interstate - Halo cost me $80 from Melbourne. We were fortunate enough to go over to meet her, but if we hadn't been able to I would have been fine with letting our breeder pick for us because they match the pup's personality up with the family. -

Just rereading your post, a Finnish Lapphund may tick the boxes too especially as you said you don't mind the coat. They're lovely family dogs, and a Spitz breed so your dad would know the Spitz personality having owned a corgi. If they grow up with cats they're fine with them (mine only gets excited over cats if the Sibe does, normally she ignores them) and the girls aren't too bad strength wise. Otherwise I agree with greyhound and whippet. Maybe Aussie Shepherd too? Definitely have a look around at the show, as I said before we'll be there with the token lappie and I'm more than happy to point you in the right direction. -

Thank you, could you please give some more information about SACA park this weekend? Day/time/what the event is? My father is home at the moment and he knows about shows so he would be able to 'guide' us a bit better, but that was mostly in vic. Adelaide Districts Working Dog Club Inc All Breeds Champ Show 17th Sept 2011 Adelaide Districts Working Dog Club Inc All Breeds Champ Show 18th Sept 2011 SACA Park - Cromwell Road, Kilburn I'm not entered so I can't tell you the start time - but if you are there at 9am you will get a good look at all the breeds. Thank you very much, it is a good idea to go, and my Dad would enjoy it. It starts at 9am. Trust me, you'll see all sorts of breeds that you would have never thought of before (though it may be a little more light on than normal shows due to the fact that we've just had Adelaide Royal so people may be taking a break). And Pedigree Dogs Exposed is EXTREMELY biased. -
Completely agreed. I flew my lappie pup (so weighed less than a lab pup) from Melbourne to Adelaide in January this year and it cost me $80, but I had my own crate already.

Nah, my Sibe will think it's all a game - if she doesn't want to be caught, she won't be! Stubborn AND clever! -

Yeah, Akira would love it I think. So add Akira (Siberian Husky) to the list - she's the first one off and chasing something. -
Eep, I haven't read it yet. Should probably do that tonight!

In SA they don't even send out numbers! I think it's a much better system to not send them out. At least you're not worried that they've been lost in the mail.

My rising star Halo (Taigakoira Aamuenkeli) had a fantastic week at the Adelaide Royal. She started out at Sunday Sweeps with being shortlisted to the top 12 in the Puppy Bitch class. Seeing as she's a rare breed, for us that was as good as a first place. Then on Friday at our breed day, she won Puppy of Breed over her sister Ruby, and then went into the bitch challenge lineup where she was awarded RBCC. She was the only bitch who was run twice, and a few people said the judge probably would have given her the challenge if she'd been older. There were six bitches in total for the breed, so we were absolutely thrilled. She is nine months old. Here's a pic of Halo with her ribbons from Friday.

I loved the costumes, it looked fantastic and what a great way to finish off the Royal.

My girl loves jumps. She'll even jump over the tunnel if you're not quick enough.
