  1. They definitely can. Akira has a thing against Maltese, which I think is because our next door neighbour's Maltese bullies her through the fence. She used to be alright with them, but now she's getting worse and worse so I just keep her away. Sibes are definitely NOT guard dogs. They might bark at someone they don't know, but once they've met them, they'll leave them alone and let them get on with robbing the house. They're not stupid - in fact, they're TOO smart. Sibes CAN be let off their leash, but sometimes no matter how well they're trained they'll tell you to get stuffed. And no, their coat isn't that hard to take care of, just twenty minutes a week to get rid of the dead hair and of course more often when they're blowing coat.
  2. This was this morning. Curled up in a little ball.
  3. Love the video! That part where you're doing a stay and leave with Wolf and he turns his head around to follow you with his eyes reminds me so much of what Akira does. Wish I could get her to walk so nicely on a lead like Wolf does, though.
  4. We have lino (which SUCKS and gets marks on it really easily), carpet and tiles. The carpet and tiles survive much better.
  5. The only way I can think of my Sibe being dangerous to me is if she suffocates me with her slobber from kissing me too much. Don Burke is an idiot.
  6. My eight month old is being obedience trained and she has an automatic sit. We've been doing some show handler training (for me, not for her) and at first she had a little trouble getting it right. Now that we have to do it for obedience, she's starting to get a lot better, though I want it solid. If I had a show dog, I'd train the other way around - get the stand solid and then introduce the sit.
  7. If it's late Dec/early Jan I'm on holidays for sure.
  8. what about heart worm? I don't live in a heartworm area. I was under the impression that heartworm is now in Southern Victoria and Southern SA and so everyone in mainland Australia should do heartworm prevention. We've just started changing Akira's food. She's now on Pro Plan Puppy Chicken and Rice. Decided to leave her on puppy for a little while longer because while she's pretty much at adult height, she's still growing and her muscles can probably use the extra protein.
  9. I was just about to say the woo woos. And then the variation of the woo woos that Akira does: arf arr arr arrroo.
  10. We have a dark brown modular leather lounge suite. Akira's not allowed on it, though I did catch her out standing on the back rest the other day trying to catch flies in the window. There was no damage to the lounge suite at all even though she was jumping up and down on it and racing after flies.
  11. He's in LLUUUUURRRRRVVVEEEEEEE :D ;) I could maybe understand if she was entire, but she's desexed. Maybe because she was sooooooo close to her season when it was done her sexy girl vibes have hung around a bit. There's a GSD at obedience who acts the same around her. :D :D
  12. Be good to see you Vicsta - and I am sure Akira will love to see Brock if you bring him too We have lots of Barbies here for her to eat I'm pretty sure Akira will love to see Brock too. :D And are you meant to be offering Barbies? Are you going to get in trouble with Barbie's owner?
  13. We used to be sooooo careful with the Salvation Jane when we had our horses. It's so pretty, but such a pest.
  14. I grew up with Hungarian Vizslas and Elley and Gus were the most loyal dogs I've ever met. When Gus died, my parents got an older Pomeranian to keep Elley company, and Rusty put me off small dogs for life. He was horrible, would climb fences and none of us ever bonded with him. He had to be PTS because he kept getting out and no one could catch him, and he was HA. After Elley died, we didn't get another dog - Mum said she wouldn't get anything but another Vizsla, but she couldn't get another Vizsla because Elley was so special. My OH and I got Akira a few months after we moved into our new house. She's so different to the Vizsla's, and is very independent and stubborn. We have fallen in love with the Spitz temperament and we'll always have a Spitz in our lives - not sure if it will always be a Husky though! Akira is a lot of work and is always testing us, and is a typical naughty Sibe.
  15. We've noticed that Akira is getting hayfever too - she's been sneezing (both normal and reverse) and her eyes have a bit more gunk in them than normal.
  16. Love the photo of Echo in the garden, great self portrait tlc and how stunning is Bella in that picture? Here's our week 42. I was playing with editing.
  17. My girl is inside and outside. She's outside when we're not at home (though she has a doggy door to get into the laundry so she stays out of the heat) and she sleeps in a kennel outside. When we're home, Akira comes in and out as she wants. She generally prefers being outside in the winter, but she's starting to want to be inside more and more as it heats up. Re walks, she normally gets two walks a day. If she's doing something that uses a lot of energy, like training/playing with doggy friends/etc she normally only gets one walk or doesn't get one at all. We don't walk when it's raining because I hate it and while she's a water baby, she doesn't like the rain coming into her face.
  18. I can understand that - I feel the same way Awww, you poor thing having to put up with it every day. Akira gives me lots of kisses and that's bad enough!
  19. Yes, that's correct. She's about the same size as a male Lappie, a couple of inches taller than a female. Sizes are a tricky thing for me, because Akira doesn't actually have a crate at the moment - my OH is making ours and it feels like a never ending project (typical man ), but because Akira has her kennel we don't need it right this instant. However, I would buy something about this size: http://www.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/EXTRA-L...Cats-p14751.htm It'll be too big for a puppy, but you can section it off. For a puppy though, I'd think of a metal one due to destruction issues (my OH is making a metal one), you can always cover it with a blanket to keep light out if you want puppy to sleep during the day.
  20. Most puppies will DESTROY bedding. Our Husky has, and we don't bother anymore. I would recommend just getting a crate and then putting blankets/towels in it. We've learnt that Akira will sleep on the ground over a bed anyway, and she's more than happy with towels. If you'd rather a bed than a crate, maybe try a trampoline style bed. I just really recommend not spending too much on beds!
  21. *Knocks Ker out the way* I wanted a Sammie instead of a Husky, but OH refuses to have a White dog. So we got a half White dog instead. Akira pulls faces when she gets slobbered on. Not sure she likes it too much.
  22. YAY! I would love a Sammie, but am not allowed one, so I will want puppy cuddles when you make a meet. ;) Look at us Spitzers, half of Adelaide will be Spitz soon!
