  1. LuvLottie is safe, though caught in floods. She posted a little earlier.
  2. Lovely photo Nik, fits in so well with the previous photo.
  3. Actually that is not correct. A lot of breeders put pups who are show quality on the limited register as they are going to a pet home. What might be a great pet home is not necessarily one that would be a great show home. If the owner decides prior to sterilizing that they would like to show and the breeder is happy that the pup is still show quality then it can be changed over. There are a lot of good quality dogs in pet homes - sometimes its that there wasn't someone around at the time willing to show them for the breeder (you can't keep every dog), sometimes it might be some other reason - its the breeders choice. Many breeders will only breed for themselves, others breed selectively and are willing to work with other people who want to be involved in showing the breed, which is often where you see share agreements (either of these breeders is the type you want, but I should note co-ownership is a whole seperate thread! LOL). However, a breeder that seems to have litters on the go all the time, and only breeds to sell (ie you don't see them showing/trialling etc) is someone IMO who you should be vary wary of, even if they are willing to put a dog or bitch on mains and sell to you. In short, if the motivation for breeding is not to improve the breed (and be willing to have this demonstrated in a ring - or in whatever field of testing you are looking for) then you may run the risk of paying good money for an animal that is not of the quality that you are after. Because the basic theory (and yes, this is subjective!!) is that dogs in the ring should be of the best quality that the breed currently has to offer. That's why we have judges and ribbons LOL The bolded part is what I meant and obviously didn't phrase correctly. Yes, I know that a lot of show quality dogs end up in pet homes, but I meant in regards to the OP saying that they had to pay more for a main registered dog to show. To me, it sounded as though they meant that some breeders are happy to put any dog on main register as long as you pay more for it, even if that dog is not a good enough example of the breed, which should not be the case.
  4. I'm in the process of getting my first show dog. Halo is joining our family at the end of the month and we're very excited. Yes, you're correct that a main registered dog should be of a higher standard, which should be the deciding factor rather than paying more to have it main registered. IMO there should be no difference in price between a main and limited registered dog. We actually got to know both the breed we're going into and our breeder by chatting on DOL - there are no breeders of lappies in SA, however that's because they're an uncommon breed. If I were you, I'd head to shows, watch your breed in the ring and try and speak to exhibitors (when they're not busy of course) saying that you're interested in showing. By knowing that you're willing to go to shows without a dog, they'll realise that you're actually keen to get out there. The other thing is, you might find that you HATE the show scene - I know of a few people who decided it wasn't for them. By getting out there before you have the dog, you'll be able to decide whether this is something you really want to do or not. You'll also be able to get to know exhibitors of your breed in your state, and it's really helpful knowing who you can ask for help when you finally do get out there.
  5. Frodo's Mum, that is such an effective photo. Love it! 10: Back to work
  6. 10: Back to work Love the photo of your kitty, MavericksMission! Those two photos of your boys are gorgeous, Huga. The rose looks fantastic, DA.
  7. The ET requires vet exams before and during the event. It is a lot harder on a dog than other events though.
  8. Terra? you OK? Not really... This is why Oh no. He's not having much luck is he? Hopefully he'll be fine.
  9. Completely agreed! Come say hi in the Spitz thread, Katalily, there are stacks of Lappie owners in there.
  10. My sibe has hers and while she's never had an injury I caught it by accident grooming her the other day and she wasn't too happy. Hers stick out a little bit, and if she ever has to be put under for surgery again, I'll investigate having them removed at the same time.
  11. We're about to get a new puppy, though I suppose we're not the typical new puppy buyers having been on DOL for a fair while now. Before we'd even decided to get a puppy, I knew a fair few breeders in the breed from talking to them on here and I knew how long we would have to wait. We were relatively lucky - I didn't expect to be getting a puppy until somewhere between March and May, but Halo is coming home at the end of this month. Our breeder is wonderful and I would not hesitate to get a second puppy from her - not sure the OH is too keen on a third dog though! For me, I find a website important because I'd never contact a breeder unless I could get information about them and their dogs first. I'll visit any website, even if it makes my eyes bleed, and I can always turn off the sound if they're going to try and kill me with music. ;) But I want the website to be informative and give me pictures of their dogs and info about their bloodlines, etc. For our puppy's breed, there's a breed club in Vic, but that's the only state that has one, so it's not really applicable to me, though our breeder is a member of the Vic breed club. And I was happy to wait up to 12 months for a puppy, but I was certain there'd be litters sooner (and I was right).
  12. That's an awesome boat, Tawnydal! Here's day 9:
  13. Love the hair photo Nik, and Huga that is such a sweet photo! Here's day 9:
  14. Aww, she's gorgeous Parrotpea!!! I LOVE the last picture!
  15. I'm not sure if the reg names have been fully decided on yet. And yes, one of Lappiemum's babies. :D
  16. Thanks Evolving. And yes, I would love some of your photos. The one thing that I'm sad about with Akira is that I have no photos of her between birth and 10 weeks, so I'm determined to make up for that with Halo. :D
  17. Now that I know which one she is, this is my baby, Halo, who will be starting in the ring in SA in March.
  18. Yes, I ended up getting my favourite, purple girl. I never thought we'd get her though, so I was a little surprised.
  19. That's an awesome building, Ravyk! Day 8:
  20. We always have a pool available for our husky to cool her feet down in. She doesn't need it, and would be able to self-regulate without it, but she's a total waterbaby and loves the water.
  21. Yep, so not yet! We'll get her at the end of January. Will be relying on Evolving and Lappiemum for my week 2 and 3 pics.
