  1. My boy had a beautiful mask.....old age / white hair has gotten rid of that unfortunately.... My girl is only a year old and is already very light under her eyes and getting white hairs down her nose. I jokingly told the OH I was going to pluck to white hairs out but he wouldn't let me.
  2. It'd be interesting to know whether their masks change like Husky masks do - as a pup Akira's mask looked exactly the same as the puppies, but now it's a lot lighter and finer. Not sure I'd want one - they're extremely wary of strangers and they tend to be a bit high strung, so not really the ideal temperament to live with.
  3. Halo's first show out the steward looked at her list and went "oh gosh, there's two of you!" Not that we're competing against Ella yet seeing as Halo is a baby. She's the best steward! She was lovely.
  4. They're a lot smaller. A female Husky should be 20-22" tall, whereas a Klee Kai ranges from 13" to 17", depending on whether it's a toy, mini or standard. They also have a completely different temperament to a Husky, and they MUST have a face mask, whereas a Husky doesn't need to have one.
  5. It'd be impossible to get ANKC recognition at the moment. They're only UKC recognised, not AKC, and they still don't breed really true to type.
  6. Halo's first show out the steward looked at her list and went "oh gosh, there's two of you!" Not that we're competing against Ella yet seeing as Halo is a baby.
  7. The colouring reminds me heaps of Halo, but it's extremely unlikely (like 99.99% unlikely) there's any lappie in there. I'd probably say there's Kelpie and Chi in there.
  8. My OH likes females better - he thinks they're cleaner. I don't care either way. My next dog will hopefully be a boy, but more likely a female - I don't think OH will get passed his preference for female dogs.
  9. I'm thinking of putting a "do not let the dog out" sign on my gate - I'm not worried about my dogs attacking anyone (the Husky would just bark and the Lappie would come and get cuddles), but I am worried about them being let out of the yard. We keep the gate locked, but we've been warned that our water meter could be moving to the backyard and the Husky would run and not return until she was ready if someone let her out.
  10. I used to use Supercoat for Akira and she did really well on it. We switched to ProPlan before Halo was born because I knew that was what our breeder was feeding, and I found it was very similar, I just fed a little less and there were no more smelly farts like there were when she was on Supercoat and due to feeding less she did smaller poos. Akira is now on adult ProPlan and Halo on puppy, but I'll change Akira over to performance ProPlan because she's active and she likes the smaller pieces.
  11. Lucky! They gave me a 200g sample of Supercoat and a lead. We feed ProPlan, so that would have been much more useful!
  12. My puppy lays down with her legs behind her - we call that froggy legs. I was told yesterday it was a sign that her hips were good.
  13. Just updating a little. Nothing major, but I'm quite proud of both my girls. Akira's LLW has significantly improved this year - just walking she still pulls a fair bit, but we're probably at 40% LLW all the time now. At obedience, we're at 90% LLW which is fantastic and she only really pulls when she's not concentrating. We've worked out how to motivate her now and she's concentrating stacks better. She's also realised that I'm fun (and normally have food) so she has stopped running off during stays, and is allowed to train offlead at agility now. Halo has started obedience - her stand isn't solid but she has heaps of fun with obedience so I thought I'd get her started. However I am most proud of her fantastic recall - she could be playing with another dog fifty metres away and if I call her she will come. She's definitely proving already that she has the drive and willingness to please that is really useful for training.
  14. I bought mine off eBay too. Mine's been good so far (only used it twice) except for the fact that it has a wooden bottom and OH left it out and the littlest monster chewed the base. However it's not too bad and I can still use it. I have trouble fitting it in the car though. It cost a lot less than what the OKS and NFS did though - $250 including shipping - and I can easily fit my lappie and sibe in the same trolley.
  15. Lappie babies are pretty damn gorgeous But Sibe babies are beautiful However I've gotta say that most Spitz babies are gorgeous. I love Kees bubbas!
  16. Any excuse to keep talking about my puppy! She is 13 weeks now. So far she has been to herding and to 2 show training classes. Im so proud, she picks up everything so quickly and is just so adaptable and shows no anxiety where ever I take her. She has learnt High 5's, shake hands, drop, sit, speak on command, and the latest is leave. So funny, she cant bear to look at the treat while I say 'leave', so she turns her back to it. Watching the reality of what 'OK' meant was sooooo cute.. (really mum, can I?!) But, right now she is limping along on 3 legs! got home from work to find a little bit of blood on one of her hind leg nails, right near the bed and a tiny nick in the pad. Will get it x ray'd at work tomorrow, it doesnt feel serious, but she is being a princess about it. God forbid mum tries to cushion it with a bandage!!! She was playing with a full size deerhound last night... so damn cute. The deerhound laid down to be at her height and ended up wearing a ACD toupe Awww, sounds so clever Jakemon! Hope the poor little one's foot feels better soon! Miss Halo has taken to sleeping with her sister whenever Akira lies down. They really adore each other. And this is her last night
  17. I know, they do grow fast, don't they? Halo hasn't grown anywhere near as fast as Akira (at four months old she was the size of a lab the same age and was getting her adult coat, and everyone was telling us she'd be huge, but then she suddenly stopped growing at six months and is now on the small end of the scale) but I watched a video of Halo the day after we got her today and she's definitely grown a lot.
  18. I never crate trained Akira. We had more issues getting her to settle at night than we did with Halo, who was crate trained from the start. Akira also had more accidents at night than Halo did. Akira is now crate trained (she loves her bed) and it's so useful because we're heading off camping in April for Easter and we don't have to worry about where they're both going to sleep because they will sleep in their crates. Speaking of Halo, here's a rather bad video (it was dark) of her chasing a ball. You can kind of see how big she's getting (she'll be four months old on Friday).
  19. Something that I found interesting is that Akira (and now Halo) always knows what time OH will get home and I attributed it to her hearing his car. However in January she went to stay with Tobster, and Tobster said that at 5pm on the first day she went and looked out the window and waited for about 20 min. This is the time we'd normally get home from work, and there was definitely no car signalling we were home.
  20. It's not until May, isn't it? We'll probably go, good socialisation for the girls.
  21. Halo got into Adelaide just before 4pm with no adverse effects. She left Melbourne at about 2:30 from memory, and it was warmer - about 28C I think. She was drooling, but even now she still drools in the car because she gets car sick. Cost us about $80 to fly from Melbourne to Adelaide, was shocked at how cheap it was.
  22. Halo arrived via plane from Melbourne on Australia Day and she was almost 9 weeks old. We went with a member on here's company (Wayrod) and we were extremely pleased with the service. Our breeder dropped her off to the airport in Melbourne and we picked her up from the airport in Adelaide.
  23. Agree about a Lappie. I found the coat blow to be easily managed and only lasted a week or two, and for the rest of the year I hardly ever see a piece of Lappie fur around the house (whereas the Kelpies always create furbunnies). They generally like kids, either naturally lie down, or just want to play with them in my experience, are easy to train for shows and easy coat upkeep- although not sure about this in a farm setting as they would probably pick up burs more regularly. Even when my girl has got burrs they have been 'relatively' easy to remove. Yeah, even with Halo's more fluffy puppy coat, burrs come out relatively easily. And both she and Akira are extremely good with kids.
  24. Woo, Adelaide Kennel Club are doing online entries!
  25. I wouldn't suggest a Vizsla either, far too active. Maybe an Aussie Shepherd or Golden Retreiver? A Finnish Lapphund would tick most of the boxes too, though they will lose a fair bit of hair with a coat blow, but that's twice a year for an entire female and once a year for an entire male. The rest of the year they wouldn't lose much though.
