  1. Fantastic photos everyone!!! I have been soooooooooooooooo lazy. However today I've edited and uploaded half of my outstanding photos - I still had photos from FEBRUARY that I hadn't uploaded. Am up to March 13 now, so hopefully I'll get them all edited and uploaded in the next few days.
  2. She actually goes to obedience beforehand and has a huge run in the park there before every meet we've been to (except the December meet). Unfortunately she's a breed that can run all day so it doesn't really calm her down. I wouldn't bring her to a littlies meet anyway, but it'd be nice to go to a regular one again.
  3. Why isn't Akira allowed at meets? Would she be okay if she stays on-lead? She likes to run, I got told she was too over the top. She gets upset if she's on lead and all the other dogs are off lead. So I can't bring her to any meets anymore to keep others happy.
  4. There's some people with White Shepherds at obedience - I'm sure if you come down one morning you could probably have a chat. We train Sunday mornings at Para Districts.
  5. Yup, I did that last week and the judge said that it was okay, and got me to open Halo's mouth myself.
  6. I think the thing is that unless caught (ie, shot) in the act, there is no proof that this dog was the one murdering livestock. It could have been some other neighbour's dog who's killing the animals. Shooting a dog while protecting your stock is one thing, shooting a dog that's tied up and THEN not even putting it out of its misery is cruelty.
  7. Same here. :p Even my work people are dog people (said as I watch their guide dog puppy play with my lappie puppy in our office).
  8. Yep, my boss did that the other day. It was the first time he'd ever used one and he swore never again. I have one, but I only use it at the beach or in the park when I know there's NO WAY the dog could get anywhere near a car.
  9. I use this on my Sibe and her whites sparkle.
  10. You're right, it definitely could be. Something else to work on (as well as drop which she doesn't get at the moment!) Thanks guys, she's such a good girl.
  11. Temperament is definitely not suitable, they're a lot of work to become people friendly dogs because they're naturally very timid but a bit hyper at the same time. Plus there is only one breeder in Australia and the puppies are VERY VERY expensive. ETA: Lappiemum, Halo hasn't yet shown any interest in the birds, though she might be letting Akira stalk them for her.
  12. Gorgeous pics everyone! I'm already in love with Dante, and Rogue is gorgeous! Glad to hear Archie did well in class. Nowhere near as good as Tess, but here's Halo showing off her newest trick, "walk". Sorry about the crap video!
  13. Aussies as well really. Oh I meant to say, Lappies don't just come in black. There's cream as well which pops up quite regularly.
  14. I'd definitely say Aussie Shepherd. Finnish Lapphund would probably suit your lifestyle as well. In my experience (have never lived with an Aussie though) there are variations between activity levels between individuals, but even the more active dogs of these breeds have an off switch. Just be aware that longer coated dogs will be more likely to pick up burrs in a rural area.
  15. Completely agreed. My little one was the same, the first few days she didn't really eat much, but she quickly learnt that if she didn't eat, she wouldn't get fed until the next meal. Now she'll go and eat as soon as her food is put down.
  16. Nope, they don't. Right click on the image thumbnail, select open in new window/tab and then right click on the image and click view image to get the URL.
  17. It took me a long time to bond with Akira - to be honest, I only think it's been in the last four or so months that I've felt that connection. She was a nightmare at first, especially with her fear - OH and I spent the first month going "what did we do?" because she was so afraid of everything. As she started to become a well behaved dog, that was when I started to bond with her. I'd send her to her kennel for bedtime, and she'd go with no fights at all, get into bed and give me a sloppy kiss and that was when I realised that I was starting to love her more and more every day. Halo took a couple of weeks to bond with - I absolutely adore her now. She loves her pats and cuddles (whereas Akira never did as a puppy) and that made it a lot easier for me.
  18. LOL!!! I think he saw us walking one morning when Akira tried to take after a cat and I was desperately trying to stop her from killing it and dragging me through the dirt in the process.
  19. Yes, I think she is. It wasn't very obvious last week, but she's actually been listening to me better because she's enjoying it than she normally does. Last week she was the only one of the dogs who went through the tunnel in a U shape without refusing the first time they tried it (we did a lot of tunnel training over the summer break though to get her used to running into a dark space) though she wasn't quite so happy with the collapsed tunnel. She needs stacks of work on her recall though because she's a typical Sibe who says "nah, I don't feel like coming back" - I think I need Halo out there because if I called Halo (whose recall is almost perfect) Akira would come running too because she thinks Halo's going to get something she won't. :D
  20. I'd love to bring Halo, but it's not really fair on Akira who's not allowed at meets.
  21. You're in SA, aren't you Jacqui? Which bike track was this? I always feel safe walking with Akira in the dark - my neighbour reckons no one would ever attack me because I look like I can't control her.
  22. I tend to be so bad about keeping quiet when someone sprouts rubbish - OH is always saying "IGNORE, IGNORE, IGNORE". :p
