  1. I like Karlo... I've been looking a Finnish girls names for my to be lappie, found the perfect name the other day (and husband liked, which doesn't happen often) then googled the name + Finnish Lapphund and saw there was one in Australia closely related to breeder... grrrrrr.... It doesn't matter, trust me. Halo's breeder has a Sohvi - and one of the puppies from Halo's litter was named Sohvi. If you like the name, go for it!
  2. Every breed comes with stereotypes. There are even people at obedience that do it subconsciously - we get much less help with Akira than we do with Halo because of the stereotype that huskies are untrainable. Thankfully Akira now has a fantastic trainer who helps out heaps with her. I'll be really sad when she's finally good enough to move up classes!
  3. We travelled 8 hours to visit our puppy, but we flew her home when she finally came home.
  4. I use Peperone (http://www.peperonepetsupplies.com/) for grooming equipment. They're based in Australia and shipping is calculated at checkout.
  5. OMG! if something happens to one of mine i just get it fixed no matter the price but $300 for a spey!!! My girls run $150-$185 and boys are $130! and that is greyhound sized dogs! Whoa, that's so cheap, we paid over $400 when Akira was spayed.
  6. That's exciting Brooke! No flames from me (I have a BYB purebred, so I can't really talk), and it's still a puppy and cute! Ambrosia, lappies are the best. I adore my husky, but my lappie is my little angel (by name, sometimes not by nature) and I'll definitely have more lappies in the future. Would like a boy next, though I'm not sure OH would agree with me on that one!
  7. I've also used the phenergan a couple of times, on Ruby (Halo's litter sister). The last trip we did (2hrs) she was fine and just slept without anything. With Halo I agree she is probably stressing more about the car than the motion sickness, so it may be necessary to keep up the phenergan for a bit longer, if its having a positive effect. Phenergan is used for children for travel sickness as well. If you are going to use it, administer it a day before you plan to go just to ensure that there is no reaction or anything. Does Phenergan make them drowsy? I remember i gave Leo some kids child sickness tabs and it made him zonked out! It can, it does depend on the dog. It doesn't make Halo drowsy, it just makes her relax. Ruby I believe it made drowsy from memory (LM can confirm).
  8. I really hope Indie is okay, big hugs and hopefully you'll get some answers from the vet.
  9. Emmy got car sickness and then it developed to anxiety towards the car. She use to drool walking towards my car.. now she just drools when we are in the car. We put her in a crate and she is ok now. There was A LOT of training for her to be ok with the car. Yep, that's where we're at at the moment too. Halo won't go near the car (just walking past it without me having to drag her this morning was amazing) and she's drooling from the instant she's sitting in the car. She gets her dinner in the car every night now to try and get her over it.
  10. Junket isn't a med and will be fine. You can split it in half or quarters fairly easily too. HOWEVER I found that it didn't help my lappie puppy at all. The only thing we've remotely had any success with is phenergan and we bought the liquid medicine - one mL per kg of the dog. Is pretty messy to deal with though and now that she's 10kg we'll just get the tablets. Halo, IMO, is stressing herself out and making herself sick - I don't think she's getting actual motion sickness anymore.
  11. Yeah, if the vet is going to charge double to try and scare people into desexing earlier then I'd be getting another vet too. As ReadySetGo said, it shouldn't cost that much more for a heavier dog.
  12. They definitely do have serious faces as babies! But they're definitely not serious as they get older! Serious 7 week old bubba Cheeky monkey at 21 weeks and not serious at all (both photos taken by the wonderful Evolving)
  13. *nods* ours do that My PUPPY does that. Luckily she's allowed out and is getting too big to still be doing it.
  14. Sounds like everyone's preparation is going well. Akira's not doing it until 2012, but her training is going well. She and OH have been doing a three km run twice a week, though I believe it's slower than it's meant to be at the moment. OH reckons that she could probably run it again without stopping, but he doesn't reckon he can! She's still only young, so don't want to push her too hard just yet.
  15. Thanks guys. Bought the Valuheart as the Vet Shed website said it was the generic equivalent of Heartgard (and it's cheaper than Proheart) plus got some Drontal tablets.
  16. A lot of vets will suggest young desexing and it has to do with the fact that if they're desexed young, there'll be no accidents. I had my husky desexed at 5.5 months and I wouldn't do it that young again and would wait until at least 12 months.
  17. I'm certain that if a rat got into our place, Akira and Halo would have it sorted in minutes. Halo is fantastic at catching bugs, and Akira is fantastic at catching birds. The birds now tease Akira by flying just over her head where she can't reach them.
  18. Another heartworm topic, sorry! I currently give my girls the Heartgard chews - Akira loves them, Halo got her first one this morning and took twenty minutes to eat the damn thing because she didn't like it and kept spitting it out. I even tried putting it in mince and she ate around it. I think it will be much easier to just get her to swallow a tablet because the chew is much too big to chuck down her throat. Can anyone recommend a heartwormer that comes in a tablet form? Also does anyone know where I might be able to get Drontal Allwormers in tablet form? We've been getting them from the vet as singles when she was smaller than the weight range I had at home, but I reckon I'm going to have the exact same problem with chewable allwormers as I do with the heartworm!
  19. Completely agreed. I was told the same thing in high school, Bow Wowy. While I'm not fantastic at it (I'm better at coding) I get paid for being a web DESIGNER. How I got there with no artistic talent is beyond me. Gorgeous drawings everyone!
  20. I'd also PM SwedishDogsDownUnder (Ausled kennels), she has a litter due as well and has some stunning dogs. http://www.ausled-australia.com/litter-announcements.php
  21. Oh, and one last thing........The website says you can only enter the oval from east or north terrace but under the image map it says enter from port road? :D I enter from North Terrace - you can only do a left turn from North Terrace though. It's probably the easiest spot to enter from. Head through the intersection of North Terrace and West Terrace towards Port Road, and I'm pretty sure it's the first left turn after that - you go directly into the parking lot from there, and there's a building to the right. They collect the $3 fee under the verandah.
  22. Akira got hers over and done with early, Halo took a bit longer but she surprised me and already had some adult teeth when I hadn't realised she'd started losing her baby teeth! Hers are almost all done now at 22 weeks - I think she has all the adult teeth, they just need to grow a little more.
  23. Will see you there! And stacking depends on the dog. Halo's been a little cow about it, but she's finally getting there if I stack her - no one else is allowed to though. :D
  24. I thought he was going to get it too but that was it. I don't think it helps that he's not mine or Tobster's dog - he's been having a holiday with Tobster for the last week and he really doesn't know me at all. Hopefully he had fun sniffing everything though!
  25. You are lucky. Onkaparinga Council - even if you are in semi-rural - is a two dog council (same for all metro councils). To get a Kennel Permit in Onka now, you must have a minimum of 5 acres and even then there can be restrictions. (I know someone in the council with enough land, but it is in an 'environmental heritage' area and they can only have 3 dogs max) Pretty sure the 1 dog rule has to do with how much land you have. Under 400m2 and you can only have one dog. (according to my council and the LGA). We're Tea Tree Gully, officially we're only allowed one dog because we're semi-detached/strata, however I got a permit for a second dog. Otherwise it's two dogs, but you can get permits for more.
