What Is Pacing And What Is 'mouth Your Dog'?
whiskedaway replied to pixie_meg's topic in General Dog Discussion
The only time I was asked for it was when Halo was teething and I warned the judge her mouth was pretty sore. So the judge asked me to mouth her myself. -
Akira and Halo do this too. It's hilarious.

Completely agreed RallyValley, if it wasn't for the wonderful people I met through DOL, I don't think I would have ever had any interest in showing. We bought Akira, not caring that she didn't have papers because you only got papers if you wanted to show and there was no way I'd ever show. Got interested in lappies, went out to a few shows and while lappies are very rare in SA (there's only two of us that show more than once a month) I got to know those who were out there, and also other people from our group who have been absolutely fantastic. Big hugs to the Aussie Shepherd people, you make us feel really welcome. So I now have Halo, who I bought with the intention of showing, and I now wish I could show Akira because even though she's BYB she's a pretty good example of the breed. Proof that non-show quality limited register dogs can throw some good offspring. If they did a scruffs class, I'd definitely take Akira along. And I agree about ribbons being handed out - the first time I realised I could go to the office and get a baby of breed ribbon, I was so chuffed. It's got pride of place on the fridge at the moment. Hmm, funny how that happens, hey? We're nowhere near trialling at the moment, and when it was just Akira who I was taking out to obedience every week, I got ignored because they knew it was very unlikely she'd ever trial. We started agility and a few people started talking to us (because she enjoys agility and is doing quite well for a beginner) but it wasn't until Halo started obedience that I've started making friends at our club.

Yep, if you hadn't said imposing, I would have said lappie, because they tick all the boxes too. And even though they have a big coat the grooming on most of them isn't too bad - quick brush to make sure there's no knots once a week, and they don't drop any coat unless they're blowing it (which admittedly is a lot then, but its only once or twice a year for a week or two). Re gundogs, our Vizslas shed a LOT. It was nuts, they would shed WAY more than even my Sibe does, but it is only short hair. I think Pointers would be a good match though as Poodlefan said.

I'm not having a problem with it Aziah. What operating system are you running? I have Windows 7.

Yeah, it's [email protected]. I got a reply from that one yesterday.

*cough* Aren't you already? ;) Darn - and here I am thinking I was doing such a good job at pretending to be 'normal' LOL Better watch out WA - you could end up the same!! LOL I blame my dogs for my present lappie obsession - they are rather addictive. For some reason, I now have 4! LOL ;) Nooooooooo never! Though I have to agree, they are rather addictive - next dog will be another lappie. Now that Halo loves OH, he even agrees. ;)

Yep, there's a show every weekend at the moment. This weekend it's Metro KC, and I think the show is at SACA (not sure, we're having a weekend off). Next weekend it's Collie Club at SACA, then Southern Districts in Morphett Vale, then Colomeke at SACA and then that takes us to the long weekend, which has specialties Saturday and Sunday at SACA and an all-breeds on the Monday at SACA. Hopefully that helps you a bit! Handler classes they have to be fully vaccinated - so generally they have their second shot at 12 weeks and they can start handler classes a week after that. Most obedience schools will be the same, we started Halo at 14 weeks which was two weeks after her second vax. I see you're in Lewiston, there's a couple of good clubs around you - Gawler is pretty good, have heard good things about Munno Para and we go to Para Districts in Salisbury who are fantastic. Only thing with Para is that obedience is Sunday mornings, which is fine for us because we only show Saturdays but others it won't be. Gawler do Friday evenings and Munno I'm not sure about but I think it's Monday evenings. Vaccination schedule depends on the vet, our vet does two (8 weeks and 12 weeks), our old vet did three (8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks). Worming we did every two weeks until 12 weeks, then monthly until 5 months and now every three months.

It was lappiemum that also won me over to FL, and 'Bear' too! He may be the sweetest dog I have met! :p Bear is such a big cuddlebum.
-
Well it was DOL that sold me on the Lappie - I met Tobster's Ella and Sparkycat's Jaana, but I'd say it was meeting Lappiemum's and Janoby's dogs at Adelaide Royal that really sold me. Sold me so much that I got one of the pups from LM's first litter. I've always wanted a Samoyed, and Lyndsay and some obedience people are really starting to sway me towards Aussies, but I think I'll have another lappie before I have any other breed.

Assuming they're both Articmal? Gorgeous doggies.

They need 25 points after they turn 1. So if they have only got 75 points at 1, then they only need another 25, but if they have 80 points they need another 25 to take it to a total of 105.

I'm really disappointed she didn't come to Adelaide - it would have been soooo interesting to hear her. Hopefully she'll do a Dame Nellie Melba act and embark on another "farewell tour". Fingers crossed. If she comes next time, I'd travel to see her. Dr Christine Zink is coming to Brisbane this June - she's awesome too! I travelled up there to see her last time she came. Hopefully if she comes again I'll be in a position to be able to travel to see her - I'm just not able to travel at the moment and getting one day off work for Melbourne Royal was hard enough!

Halo was actually named after the Beyonce song. But we were told we were tempting fate naming the naughtiest puppy in the litter Halo, however she is becoming a really well behaved little girl. She has her moments of course, but I think that's normal. Akira means intelligent, and she's definitely not. However, I have since found out that there is a porn star named Akira, and our Akira is definitely a bit of a tart, even though she's desexed.

With Akira, we sat down and made lists and the Husky came out on top. She was meant to be both of our dog, but she chose OH so that was that. With our second dog, we were getting it because I wanted to show. OH didn't really mind too much, and was mostly wanting it as a friend for Akira. We chose the Lapphund because I'd gotten to know them thanks to having Akira and I realised they'd probably be a better fit into our family, and OH liked them. I wanted a Samoyed both times, but OH didn't, so we compromised.

I was the only one from here that was there. Halo was really naughty to start with, but was a good girl at the end.

Sounds like a great resource Have you heard of Off Leash? Not sure if it's the same thing or just NSW. No I hadn't heard of it. Looking at it, they're obviously going to try and do the other states as well but at the moment they only have NSW. But it's very similar to what I'm trying to do, however mine can be searched for by facilities not just area.

Haha, that's okay, I know what you mean! I made sure that I picked a name for Halo that I didn't know any other dogs with the name. There is actually another Husky named Akira whose owner pops in now and then in the Spitz thread, but I don't think they've been on for ages. -
why will the dog parks website always be a work in progress? And you do a lot with your dogs! What do you do as part of 'sledding' with your husky? Because councils are notoriously unhelpful and it's a massive job visiting all of the ones I know about to get photos and check out their facilities. It will be a search engine when it's done and will allow people to search for a fenced park with a barbeque in a certain council. I've been working on it for a good six months now and it's nowhere near done! And I've only done dog parks in Adelaide so far, haven't even thought about interstate yet! And sledding is run by the SA Sled Dog Club and is basically racing where your dog pulls a "sled" - actually a scooter, because we have no snow here. Any medium sized breed can join in, but Huskies and Malamutes are the most common ones there. It's run in the winter months.

Essentially I'm a crazy dog lady. I'm a web designer/developer by qualification. In the dog world I: Show a Finnish Lapphund Obedience train two dogs Agility train a Siberian Husky Work on a dog parks website that will probably always be a work in progress Have just started herding with my lappie, will be going to our next training day on the 28th Have just started sledding with my Husky, next training day is the 15th.

How far away is your pup to drive Lucious? Apologies if you have mentioned earlier. Hi, it is a 12 hour drive there and then same return. I got quoted $216 to fly him over though, so leaning towards flying. But im worried he will get sick or lost or something horrible! lol I was the same, I was so worried. But nothing happened, we had a FANTASTIC person in charge handling all of Halo's flights (Wayrod on here) and within no time we were giving her cuddles and taking her to her new home. -
Being new, I will enter under any judge - I have no clue who is who, after all. Plus I have a rare breed, so I need to give judges the chance to see it that might not know the breed. However, I will take note of judges that rough handle my dog, and I won't enter under them again - one judge early on was very rough with my baby puppy and it took a few more shows to get her to be happy to have her teeth checked again. I won't show under this judge again.

We tossed up between the driving/flying thing too. In the end, we flew. The reason was it would be 8 hours in a car, trying to find suitable places that were safe to toilet and knowing what we know now, this would have been extremely stressful for Halo because she hates the car. Flying on the other hand was a one hour flight, though she did have to be there early and she threw up on the way to the airport, but our breeder was able to clean her up before checking her in, and she came off the flight in Adelaide and we had her 15 minutes after it landed. We were able to give her a drink at the airport before driving home, and it was a much shorter time and I believe relatively unstressful for her in comparison to how driving would have been.
