  1. Aussie Shepherd. Not too much grooming, very trainable.
  2. I would call the council and make them aware of what's going on. They should give a warning or something like that.
  3. Malamutes are calmer than Huskies, but they are BIG dogs, and they can be as big an escape artist as a Husky can. They're pack animals, they can be very dominant and they don't like being left alone. Hence by themselves they can be pretty destructive. And they're a typical Spitz - stubborn and "what's in it for me?" They need exercise as well because they have a lot of energy, but once again they're not as bad in that respect as Huskies.
  4. They weren't toooooo bad when we just chucked them in a pen together and let them at it - they seemed to settle a bit after that! Yep TLC, she has grown heaps. The photo of her and Ruby was a month ago, and Halo's grown stacks since then so I'm pretty sure she's taller than Ruby now.
  5. Hence why the first photo they are at a "safe distance" apart!
  6. Well Miss Halo is going to be six months old on Wednesday, so I thought it was time to update this thread with some pictures. Mmmm, the Woofery is my favourite! Akira and Halo wrestling on the bed.
  7. Yep I love my trolley. It's big, cumbersome and annoying and doesn't fit into my car properly, but I STILL bring it to every show I enter. It's just so useful - I normally chuck both dogs in the trolley (mine's fairly big), put the other crate on top, then my gazebo, chair, grooming box, etc on top of that. Wheel it all over, set up, then put the lappie in the crate because she has a bad habit of chewing up the floor in the trolley. And as Rysup said, they're fantastic to groom on top of.
  8. Halo and Akira are like that. Akira goes and hides because she gets sick of Halo.
  9. Colomeke? We'll be there, but on the Saturday. If you're there on the Saturday as well, we'll be after you in the same ring so I'll keep a look out.
  10. Someone at obedience had a breed profile done for their dog. They got told it was primarily a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. This dog looks like a border collie and there is no way has any staffy in it. Personally I think they're a waste of money. Plus as Staranais said, they don't have all the breeds on the profile. My purebred lappie would come back as a cross because they wouldn't have the breed on the profile.
  11. That said, baby lappies always look like teddy bears, so any teddy name will suit them as a baby.
  12. Extremely common. I answered the poll with my older dog because it was very different with our puppy, but it took months with Akira. Constantly I would think "why did we do this?" It didn't help that we got her at a time where OH had just had a nasty accident and operation from footy, and she was so petrified of everything. Plus she was NAUGHTY to extremes, and a typical Husky that wouldn't listen. OH bonded with her first (and she's still his dog now), and it wasn't until she was about eight months old when I started realising I loved her more and more every day. Now she's my baby, and she's such a good girl and I love going home to see her. Halo was just about instant. Maybe took a week or so. I adore her, she's my little girl and she's definitely my dog. OH had the same issues with bonding with her that I had with bonding with Akira. There's a reason why Halo's nicknames are a little more derogative than Akira's, and that's because OH is normally the one who gives them!
  13. Tentatively Rupert ... maybe. Naming things is so hard, we'll wait till he gets here I think he looks like a Rupert
  14. Me too! I never thought I was nervous, but it wasn't until I realised I wasn't breathing that I realised I was.
  15. Oh you poor thing. Fingers crossed for Astrid and fingers crossed that Indie doesn't get it.
  16. They're both so cute Anna and Lucious! I hope I get to meet this little boy at a show sometime, Lucious. ;)
  17. I don't wash my dogs often - neither have had a bath since the start of April. I want to give Halo a bath before her show on Saturday but I might just end up running a warm damp cloth over her again because she's a pain to bath. Being Spitz breeds, they don't need to be done often - dirt falls out of their coats and they stay smelling fairly decent. The only time I NEED to bath them is if they roll in possum piss or something disgusting. Plus I don't like to wash away the natural oils on their skin too often. Also bathing regularly can make their coats too soft, which isn't correct, hence why we use the warm damp cloth method before shows to make Halo look nice but still keep her coat texture (not that it matters so much at the moment as she still has puppy coat, but it will matter in months to come when she has all her adult coat).
  18. I think the reason is more likely to be the amount of cereal in the kibble than chicken. Switch up to a better quality one and see what happens. Yep agreed. I'd switch to something with less cereal than changing the meat to start with. That's what we did to start with, but for us it turned out to be the meat.
  19. Completely agreed. I flew my lappie puppy in January with Wayrod and he was fantastic.
  20. It's indicative of something not being right and certainly won't do anything to empty anal glands. Yep agreed. Our Husky always had runny poos - sometimes they'd be hard but most of the time they were soft and it didn't matter how much we cut back additives and such. Turns out the one thing that had been consistent the entire time was that her kibble was a chicken based kibble (Supercoat puppy, ProPlan puppy, ProPlan adult) - switched her over to a salmon based kibble (ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach) and all of a sudden her poos are the proper consistency. We've since realised that she just can't have chicken (even raw chicken) because otherwise it upsets her stomach.
  21. Hey guys. Our agility instructor has said to get a tab leash for Akira now that she's training off leash - will allow me to guide her if I need to, but won't get in the way if she's doing obstacles. Only issue is they're really hard to find. I've found them in the US, but I'd prefer to buy from Australia just because delivery is so much faster. I have seen the one from K9 Pro, but I don't like it that it doesn't really have a handle - if she pulls it's going to be very hard to hang onto. I am looking for something like this: http://www.fordogtrainers.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=82_85&products_id=71 Anyone have any ideas where I can find one in Australia?
  22. Have fun - my Aussie loves to 'help' when I'm running by pulling as hard as she can My Sibe is a massive puller - yet you go for a run and she just plods along nicely beside you. OH reckons he's going to run with her for the ET because she's not allowed to pull, and if you attach her to a bike she'll think we're sledding.
  23. There is a member on here who has a Cav with it I believe.
  24. And I have to add to Lowenhart's point of listening to the judge and steward, tell them it's your first time. They will be a little more gentle. ;)
  25. We're not going anymore, it's Halo's first day in her higher obedience class so we've decided to do that instead. Hope everyone who goes has fun!
