This reminds me, I once forced my Husky to throw up because she'd eaten a bandage. Didn't come back up. Ten minutes later, I found the bandage under the couch - she'd stolen it and dropped it when I started chasing her but I didn't see her drop it. I felt so bad!

Where Abouts Are The Saca Grounds?
whiskedaway replied to Rileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Cromwell Road, Kilburn. If you drive down the whole road, you can't miss it. -
I second this. We have a massive show this weekend, have a walk around because you might find a breed of dog you've never even thought about before and most people should be fairly happy to answer any questions (as long as you don't catch them right before going into the ring!) Dobes are group 6 and GSDs are group 5, so they're both right next to each other as well.

Akira howls when I play flute - have never had Halo in the same room as me when I'm playing so I'm not sure if she does it too. Akira's howl is definitely a happy howl - she does it when she gets overexcited and her playful talking becomes a howl.

Not A Breed For First Timers
whiskedaway replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had dogs as a kid, but the last one died when I was 14, so I never was involved in training or anything like that. So my first breed as an adult was my Sibe, Akira, and I don't think I really realised how challenging she actually is until we got Halo and I realised what a breeze Halo is in comparison! -
Endurance Test 2011 Thread
whiskedaway replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
See the only reason he's refusing is because one of our friends refuses to become a member because he doesn't want to get chucked into the show ring, and so OH has decided that's a pretty good reason not to be a member as well. -
I posted about pulling washing off the washing line - Akira grew out of it, or maybe we got smarter. I'm kind of thinking it's the she grew out of it thing though, because Halo has started doing the same thing now that she can reach! I also posted about licking the dishwasher. It still happens, both dogs do it, I just try to keep them out of the kitchen when I have it open.

Or you can borrow Akira - she'll drag you the whole way too though.

Endurance Test 2011 Thread
whiskedaway replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Just wanted to check, the handler who takes the dog in for the ET has to be a kennel club member, don't they? I have a feeling my OH is going to try and use that as an excuse to get out of taking Akira for hers next year even though he's done all of the training so far with her. -
6wk Siberian Husky. Is His Weight Normal?
whiskedaway replied to ArchieTheHusky's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have to say, IMO he looks older than six weeks, though it's hard to tell by the photos. He's very cute. -
6wk Siberian Husky. Is His Weight Normal?
whiskedaway replied to ArchieTheHusky's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
So he's going to be massive when he's older? Oh god! Not necessarily! My girl was the biggest in the litter (she was 8kg at 10 weeks) and she's now on the very bottom of the height standard. He looks normal for a Sibe puppy. -
Haha, my OH wanted a dalmation. I kept saying "noooo, stay with a Spitz breed" and I won in the end. Why did your OH say no to a lappie? I'm assuming it's the amount of hair? Having lived next door to Corgis for most of my life, a lappie doesn't shed any more than them. A Husky on the other hand... my house is full of white tumbleweeds from her, you NEVER see lappie hair though.

OH got home from work yesterday and found the yard like this and a happy, evil Sibe. RIP Pikachu, Akira is very lucky she has another one.

We looked at heaps of dog breeds and came across the Husky when we were looking to get our first dog as a couple. Did our research, decided they were perfect for us - we wanted something active, intelligent and that wasn't extremely clingy. When we decided to get a second dog, I had decided that a Husky was maybe too independent for us, and we've both agreed that we'll only ever have one Husky at a time cos they're hard work. I wanted something similar, and I wanted a show dog, so we went with the Finnish Lapphund which is still a Spitz, but has the working attitude so is a little less independent and is slightly easier to live with. I will definitely have more lappies in the future.

I thought about this when Hales came home. However I am of the opinion that socialisation is the most important thing, and I knew my Husky would go nuts without a walk. I checked how many cases of Parvo there had been in my area lately (the biggest vet in the area hadn't seen any for a few months, and considering they're an emergency vet I took that as a good sign) and I then took Akira and Halo on walks and to obedience, carrying Halo the whole time. She was fine.

Akira decided to destroy her bed Then we bought her a new bed, and within a day she'd done the same thing OH said NO MORE BEDS after that.

Yes, I make sure that my dogs meet other dogs and get to play with them. However I am very careful of who they play with - the only dog park we take them to is at obedience, and we only take them before classes so we know who is there and what their dogs are like. Any behaviour I don't like means that we leave. Akira loves playing with other dogs, but she's more likely to get them to chase her and being a Sibe she's very talkative which makes some dogs not quite understand her play style. Halo likes playing with other dogs too, but she's very much a people dog and prefers to come and say hi to all the people in the park before she says hello to the dogs, unless there's a dog there who she knows well.

I love Moose so much. I have had cuddles. :D He's the cutest. Akira used to get the hiccups ALL THE TIME as a puppy. It's apparently a sign of growth and it stops as they get older. My Halo was eight months old yesterday. Where has the time gone? Here's one of the latest photos.

Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You
whiskedaway replied to jess live die's topic in Puppy Chat
So jealous of all the people getting puppies. Nothing nicer than puppy breath. I just have the naughty adolescent now! -
I got my sample of Black Hawk after I found something that works for Halo. When her current 20kg bag of ProPlan is close to running out, I might try her with the sample and see how she goes.

Dogs are so wonderful in that respect, glad to hear they're being good nurses, TLC. This photo was taken the last time I was sick in bed. Two very active puppies spent the whole three days I was off from work sleeping and keeping me company.
-
My dogs are allowed on the bed, but not the couch, and they know that rule extremely well. So when Halo went and spent half the day with Tobster's Ella on Saturday, my naughty brat decided that rules don't apply at someone else's house, especially if Ella is allowed on there! Photo taken by Tobster

I think I must be the only one who quite likes the comets. That said, I've never won any of them, so I'd be happy with anything.

Awesome, might need to go and check and see if they have any at my local.
