My dogs sleep under the bed at night, every now and again they might join us for a little bit (eg, the lappie slept on our bed for an hour last night because she was desexed yesterday and wouldn't settle unless she was between us). But on weekend mornings there's me, OH, a Husky, a Lappie and a two month old baby in the bed while we're watching TV and procrastinating over getting up.

Thank you!!!

Do dogs transferred to neuter register have the same registration number as when they were mains registered or does it change? Also can anyone find the neuter transfer form on the DogsSA website? I must be blind!

My Husky has a histiocytoma on her nose that the vet said has become infected - we saw the vet last Thursday. We've been given a cream to apply three times a day. Since Saturday, it has been bleeding a bit. Is it normal for these things to bleed or is it something that we should be heading back to the vet about?
-
I normally answer that yes, my dogs are great with kids but we've socialised them to be so, and that the breeds can be great family dogs but all dogs should be supervised with children.
-
My lappie did it as a puppy, I'd watch her for a bit and if she didn't stop I'd stop her. I did worry she may have a few screws loose! She very rarely does it nowadays and it's only if she gets super over excited and will do a few spins and then stop.

My guys get a Maccas icecream as a special treat too - Hales got one when she got her championship, but she refuses to eat the cone!

As BC Crazy said, it's a little more expensive, but I find the pieces themselves are less dense so there's actually more when you compare weight for weight (on Earthborn Coastal and TOTW Salmon) probably because there's no heavy grains. We're very happy so far, Akira's really doing well on it now and Miss Picky Halo scoffs it down.
-
We bought the Coastal Catch on Saturday and have slowly started introducing it. Akira's poo was a little sloppy this morning, so at this stage we're not 100% sure if it's going to be right for her, but we'll give it a week and see how she is at the end of it. It was probably a really dumb idea trying a new food a week before she's meant to go into kennels for the weekend though!

I have a voucher for Earthborn, that's why I thought I'd try it. I used to pay more for Pro Plan Sensitive anyway.
-
Anyone else tried this yet? We're looking at trialling it for our two (the Coastal Catch) as both have high energy requirements and one is allergic to chicken. They're currently on Taste of the Wild, which they're doing great on, but it's much easier being able to buy this straight from PetStock.

There's two differences in opinion in this thread, I can see both sides. Maybe (and I haven't really thought about this, there could be massive problems with it) upon reaching maturity, all dogs should be assessed by a panel of vets for soundness. If they fail the vet check, they aren't able to be shown or bred from again (for example, here they'd be downgraded from main to limited register). It wouldn't be quite so public as being refused BOB based on a vet check.

I currently have a Sibe and a Lappie, and after having my Lappie I am sold that they are the breed for me because I absolutely adore my spunky little Miss. HOWEVER my husband really, really, really wants a Malamute. So when we get a bigger house, I've told him he can have one, however I want to be able to show it. So I'm currently doing my research about what lines I like so that in a few years time I know exactly what I'm after. We will always have Spitz breeds though. We had two gundog puppies come over last week (a Cocker and a Golden) and at the end of their visit, OH said "I am so glad we have Spitz breeds, they don't stink like dog!"

Mine took five weeks, but I'm in SA.

This. Or at least buy small bags so you don't do your dough if it doesn't work out. Completely agreed. I've had my dogs on a few different foods trying to find the best one - Pro Plan, Eukanuba, Royal Canin, Black Hawk. They're now on Taste of the Wild which is great for my allergy dog - I don't think the younger one could care less, kibble is kibble in her opinion.

Last year it was freezing and rained heaps. And we got attacked by a lovely spider infestation.

Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You

Yeah she was rotten as a pup. I remember LM saying to me that I was one of the only puppy buyers she'd let Halo go to because I had Akira and was used to Spitz breeds and would therefore be able to cope with her testing me. She's such a lovely well-trained adult now though - though I have felt like strangling her the past few days with her whinging and barking while she's been in season! -
Love it! My girl loves sweeps day at the Royal, she loves getting cuddles from all the kids and getting to share an icecream cone (there's all sorts of comments from "should you be letting that dog eat icecream" and "what a lucky dog!") and the older girl is very upset to be left at home.

Rant From A P*ssed Off Show Secretary
whiskedaway replied to Rebanne's topic in General Dog Discussion
Brilliant, was it easy to find? I find the VCA website quite hard to navigate. eta maybe I should make some copies and put in the return address envelopes of the people who obviously can't be bothered to do it correctly. Unfortunately, this still doesn't say about cutting the forms to the correct size! I was lucky, because at my first show the catalogue said "entry forms must be trimmed to correct size" and I texted a more experienced showie going "what do I have to do!??" I've done that too. -
Sth Aust - Collie Club Ab Shows Cancelled
whiskedaway replied to Dellcara's topic in General Dog Discussion
And it was only approved in early Feb, so no way they could have known. It was announced it had been moved, but they obviously couldn't secure those grounds because it was then cancelled. -
Mostly just free yard access. They have a kennel in the yard and the Husky normally sleeps on top of the outdoor table. They also have access to the laundry where it's nice and cool, but the rest of the house is blocked off.

A 16-year-old boy who is accused of killing four dogs has been remanded in custody amid fears that he would try to kill a person. The ACT Children’s Court was told that police found an entry in the teenager’s “bucket list” on his iPad referring to "killing someone" when they searched his home, the Canberra Times reported. The boy, who cannot be named, is charged with causing the death of two dogs but he is suspected of killing several others. He allegedly showed friends a video taken on a mobile phone of a dog on fire and also showed them a disembowelled dog by a running track in January. It is alleged that he told his friends he had strangled the dog after snatching it from a backyard. On Tuesday police allegedly found dog remains on a vacant grassy area near the boy's home in Northside, Canberra. Police suspect that more dogs will be located in the area. The court also heard that the boy was also seen in the early hours of the morning pulling down fence palings at the home of a Canberra teacher. He allegedly told the teacher he was researching a biology assignment with dogs. An anonymous source told police that the 16-year-old had threatened to burn down the teacher’s home. "I have to say that the [alleged] facts of this matter are some of the most concerning facts that I've seen for a long time," Magistrate Karen Fryar said. She marked the boy as a risk and ordered a forensic mental health assessment report. The teenager, who had no previous convictions, was remanded in custody and is due in court next month. The boy’s mother was at court for proceedings. Source

Waiting For A Puppy This Thread Is For You

Okay, keep in mind that I had the escape artist of the litter, so what we dealt with won't necessarily be what you deal with! When we got Halo, I was meant to have a week off to settle her in, however plans fell through and it didn't happen due to a change in work circumstances. She arrived on Australia Day (Wednesday), she came to work with me on Thursday as my work at the time was dog friendly, and then I had Friday, Saturday and Sunday off. While I was off, we set up the puppy pen inside the house so that when I went back to work she'd be in there, because we were worried that our older dog (who was still very much a puppy herself) might hurt her by accident. Over the weekend we put her in there a few times when we went out for an hour or so, every time when we got home she'd be exploring the house and somehow out of the puppy pen. We fixed up all the gaps stacks of times, and by Monday were certain she couldn't escape. Went to work Monday, put the webcam on to watch her before I left for work. Got to work and she had escaped from the puppy pen already. So made out that I was sick and went home to rescue her. She was upstairs and had toileted on the carpet and I was worried would eat some power cords and electrocute herself. Fixed up more parts where I thought she was escaping from. Went to work Tuesday. She didn't escape. Went to work Wednesday. She stayed put in her pen most of the day until about 3pm when she escaped again. Thankfully it wasn't long until OH got home from work. Wednesday night we moved the pen outside, thinking that she was obviously escaping because she was lonely without Akira. At work on Thursday, I had no way to watch her with the webcam when she was outside so don't know what happened. OH got home from work and found that she'd escaped the pen again and was playing with Akira. OH had the day off on Friday and supervised the two together for the day. Over the weekend we took the pen down and Halo went outside with Akira from then on while we were at work. -
I got my sample of the salmon last week (they also threw in a sample of the venison, but I haven't tried that yet because it has chicken in it and I'm certain if I give the sample to the lappie, she won't eat her normal food again!) and the Sibe loved it. So we have a bag on its way now. :)

Our dogs are inside dogs, however OH said that he doesn't want our house to look like it has dogs. So he sweeps every night and tries to make sure that no dirt gets on the walls, etc. The dogs are allowed on the bed, but must get off when told - every now and again, I'll wake up with a Husky asleep on my feet, or a Lappie curled up in a teensy ball at the end of the bed, but normally they sleep under the bed.
