  1. Just saw an ad on a pets for sale site with someone offering a blenheim CKCS puppy for sale. They are claiming they bought two puppies from a breeder in Melbourne last week but can only keep one so are selling the second puppy for $795 - the price they say they paid for him. If anyone on here sold two CKCS puppies last week or within a short time frame msg me and I will give you the few details I have.
  2. Two dogs labelled as pit bulls by a local council in Victoria have been euthanased after their owners lost a lengthy legal battle to save their lives. The dogs, named Bear and Kooda, were put down in Shepparton yesterday under the state's new dangerous dog laws. The two dogs had not done anything wrong, but the laws allow councils to seize and destroy unregistered pit bull terriers and their crosses based on visual identification. The strict laws were introduced last year after the fatal mauling of Melbourne toddler Ayen Chol. Nathan Laffan and Samantha Graham, the owners of Bear and Kooda, were the first Victorians to challenge the dog laws in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), claiming their dogs had been wrongly identified as pit bulls. At the centre of the Cobram couple's case against Moira Shire Council was a statutory declaration from a local breeder who said the dogs actually came from a bull mastiff cross American bulldog and a staffie cross ridgeback. They lost the case on May 10 and the dogs were ordered to be euthanased. Mr Laffan told ninemsn Bear and Kooda were not dangerous and "wouldn't hurt anyone". "They were just the kindest and best dogs. They were always playful, we loved them so much," he said. "We would have trusted them around children more than most babysitters." The legal battle began in September when Mr Laffan heard the dog laws were about to be introduced and contacted Moira Shire Council to ensure his pets would be safe. A council officer who went out to the couple's home identified the dogs as pit bulls and had them seized and taken to a local pound. DNA tests cannot identify pit bulls or pit bull crosses and were unable to be used to confirm the breed. Mr Laffan is now calling for behaviour tests to be used to assess a dog’s temperament, rather than the new laws which target specific breeds. "The laws are all messed up they should never have brought them in," Mr Laffan said. "We were just trying to do the right thing and they (the council) just stabbed us in the back." Moira Shire Director of Development Scott Taylor confirmed the dogs had been put down as a result of the VCAT order. "The legislative requirements were carried out by council after all avenues of appeal had been exhausted," Mr Taylor said. Mr Laffan said they were given just an hour's notice and few minutes to say goodbye to their dogs after the time they were to be put down was brought forward by a day. "It was hectic to be honest we were just trying to make sure we got there in time. It was just a really quick goodbye and that was it."
  3. A male Newfoundland and a female Maltese - yep we get a lot of comments! My favourite is *From the sublime to the ridiculous!* PS No, I didn't ask which was which! LOL
  4. Hi all you German Shipper Breeders out there (and also Maltiz breeders) I just saw this ad and thought you would all be queuing up to send your puppies off to this obviously perfect home! Hi all! I am seeking a puppy or adult german shipper or maltiz or shitzu i am a good trained dog keeper!
  5. Hear, hear! It is depressing to see so many people on here adopt an attitude to newbies that, should their dogs exhibit the same savage unprotected attacks on a new dog would see them declared *Dangerous* How do we protect well-meaning, uneducated newbies from the venomous character assassinations that seem to greet them here more often than not? How do we persuade these newbies to stick around long enough to benefit from the immense wisdom here when their initial forays are met with such ignorant hostility?
  6. I have to agree that the OP came here in order to get help with what would be the best way to rehome their dog. They have not reached the decision lightly and all they ask is for some compassionate advice or suggestions. This forum is becoming so nasty and judgmental that I know for a fact a lot of first time posters who are coming here to seek help are feeling so unfairly condemned they do not return.....how does this bashing of people help any dogs at all? If the OP asks for opinions then please feel free to jump in boots and all - if they are asking for advice either give constructive advice or shut up. Too harsh??
  7. Hi - we have a ten week old Maltese puppy who needs to start getting used to a collar and lead but the smallest ones our local petshop sells are huge on her. She needs something about s cat collar size but suitable for a mischievous bouncy puppy. We tried her in a cat collar but t had elastic insert and she wriggled out of it in no time flat. Any suggestions please? Blingy would be cool too! LOL
  8. Thanks very much = yes you are 100% right = we tried Corvus' experiment and it showed that the dog was far more stressed when meeting other dogs than his owner had realised. She is now going to contact a behaviourist for some professional help - thanks again!
  9. A friend's male neutered Standard Poodle shows no signs of either fear or aggression when meeting other dogs and sniffs politely etc but then when the new dog is no longer paying attention to him he sneakily lifts his leg against them and urinates!! He also does this to his owner after she has corrected him for something. He is very calm and almost *sneaky* about it and there is no other show of emotion that either she or I can discern. What is going on???
  10. Kia Ora, We brought our two dogs with us from Waiheke - we found AQIS great and it was very straightforward. We actually had our dogs boarded with either DogMovers or DogTainers (sorry cant remember which) so that the dogs were away from all the chaos of the movers etc at our house and they actually got the dogs vaccinated with their necessary trans-Tasman shots, got them crated and on board etc and then phoned us in Oz to say the dogs had been safely put on the plane. We picked them up at Sydney and that was it!! Much easier than transporting the five kids was! LOL
  11. Hi - both these breeds of dogs are extremely gorgeous and both require a fair amount of daily work to keep their coats looking luxuriant. Can anyone tell me some of the more temperament- based differences between the two breeds ie affection, sociability with other animals and with people, trainability etc?
  12. Squeal - a non-shedding teacup Great Dane - perfect!! PS Do they come in blue??? Just kidding - he is gorgeous! Love their cheeky monkey faces!
  13. Thank you all very much - I have been diligently handing on all the suggestions and at this stage they are keen to learn more about Tibbies and Maltese. I think the CKCS are a little bigger than they wanted and also the ones she has met have been surprisingly active (certainly as teens anyway!) What sort of price range should they be looking at for a pet puppy from a good breeder please? Are Maltese generally more laid-back or more active - I think I remember seeing an amazing Maltes3e on Greatest American Dog - am I right?
  14. Hi all - a couple I know (who both work from home and only part-time) are looking for a puppy. They want a lapdog NOT a terrier type personality and prefer long coated dogs. It must be no bigger than a CKCS and not necessarily super-intelligent but they would definitely prefer trainable! I am at a loss. I suggested Poodles but they feel Poodles are too high-energy for them. Anyone!??
  15. Yeah - I went last time and enjoyed it but this time would prefer to spend my money on some of his books and DVDs. Wasn't as blown away by him in person as I am on his show to be totally honest. Still a fan though!
  16. That will be wonderful - will be looking forward to it!!
  17. Hi - we have a Newfie and a Japanese Chin taht would love to have their drawings done if you need any more!?
  18. But if they were BLUE Non-shedding Mudbloodoodles they might be worth a fair bit!! LOL
  19. I just saw an ad for *Pure Blood Puppies* As opposed to Muggle puppies perhaps?
  20. I am donning my flame suit here but I am too excited to not mention it....we are getting a Rescue Puppy! She is a Poodle cross something and we are really excited! Seems like a long time since we had a baby here (even if she is a mutt) She arrives tomorrow afternoon and we are busy assembling our baby puppy kit!
  21. How heartbreaking for all of you - your poor kids must feel so guilty as well as sad even though they obviously did everything possible! I am so very sorry thas happened.
  22. Maybe if it looks to you like her leg is bothering her then you should take her to your local vet - if he says it is fine and has been treated Great! If not, maybe you should get the owner to collect her from there (if he still wants her!!!??) If he doesn't want to pay for a vet visit and won't pick her up - I guess you then have some options.
  23. LOL@ Poodlemum's totally off the chain English teaching boyfriend!! My favourite sign in probably this one in NSW *XXX For All You're Stationary Need's* It was an ad for a place that did personalised wedding invitations etc.
  24. Please let us know how you get on - will be reading with interest!
  25. Without hijacking this thread into a discussion of the program itself - The Greatest American Dog had a Maltese on it named Andrew and he was a great testament to the breed - very smart, well-trained, calm - just a great little dog!
