Saw yesterday a new dog food at Pet Stock, sentient. I'm curious if anyone has tried it. I see it Aussie made, not sure on owned. But it looked rather good. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

My boy had a paralysis tick during winter. We returned home from NZ to find it on him. And from the crater and size of the tick look like it had been on for at least 7 days. (i'm still not sure how my mum could have missed it but anyway). But he was fine, didn't show any syptoms at all. The emergency vet said to watch him like a hawk for the next 72 hours but as long as he doesn't show any early signs, that there would be no need to give him the treatment. He went off his food for this period and was a little more quiter than normal, but otherwise he was fine.

Hi, I saw today a few Hamish McBeth collars that I fell in love with. They look very well made and more importantly just adorable. I want to buy one for my boy for christmas, but the store I sore them in didn't have any in his size and couldn't be certain they could get the one I'm after before christmas. They would try if I wanted to, so I will if I can't find one in the next few days. Does anyone know of a store online that will deliver without being too expensive or of a store in the Brisbane area that stocks them. Thanks

Hi, I'm after a spray to use to make my boy smell beautiful between baths. I have seen a few different colognes at the locals pet stores, none that I have really liked though. My old groomer used to use a beautiful one, but she changed locations and I can't seem to hunt her down to ask which she used, bugger!!! Would you recommend one or know of a really nice fresh smelling one, floralish sweetish is o.k. but definately no chemical smells. Thanks

I have noticed this on my dog too. I thought maybe it was the comfortis I started him back on 6 days ago. Which flea preventative do you use? I have read that it can be a side effect, but very rare.

The two varieties of scotty's rolls we use, are 100% preservative free, and also free from artificial colours or flavours as well. But they are cooked, but this is great if you have a dog who doesn't tolerate raw very well. I can't say a bad thing about them and would recommend them to anyone. We just give them with his kibble and he loves it.

My dog loves the rolls. Some give him the runs, but I find he loves Nutra-Vite made by Scotties and it seems to be the best for him, no runs, no smelly poos, and no big poos, but they are all different. It contains, Lamb Mutton Chicken Rice Bone and Oils that's it. Agrees with him, and price is good too. I get it for $8 for 2kgs from my local, I'm sure I could probably source it even cheaper, but I like to support my local they are great. He gets this at about a ratio of 60% black hawk and about 40% roll. He also get Chicken necks for lunch every second day. I once enquired about EcoPet Rolls, but they aren't available in SE QLD anymore

Well I've had a chance to read through the ingredients and it does seem to be a little heavy on the grain side. Don't think I will be changing his current kibble. But definitely better than some of the other kibbles though, that are on our shelves marketed as "super premium". Thanks for all your experiences and opinions

Pity they don't list the ingredients on the site...but its good that it contains "real chicken & egg" Not sure what "unreal chicken" would look like. The only comment I can make, is going by the feeding guide, I would have to feed my dog almost double what she gets now on her present kibble. So to me that indicates it has a lot of fillers in it. Will check it out next time I'm in Big W. yeah wonder what UNREAL chicken would look like. I've heard of Mock Chix for veges but Mock Chix for dogs ???? ;) Don't think I will change from his current kibble. It's cheap, he doesn't have to eat much either (and that's a plus cause he has never been overly eagar to goggle up his kibble). I'm just always interesting on what new on the doggy market ;)

Have you tried it? Why didn't you like it? Do you have a list of the ingredients I could look further into? Thanks. Wish I took a photo on my phone of the bad when I was in the store. I always like to do a lot of research before trialling new things ;) No need to try it, the bag was enough for me. I'm curious what was it about the bag you found horendous? Ingredients? I did just look briefly as the kids were tired and cranky, but I thought it looked good enough to look further into. Hopefully they can get back to me soon with the lists.

yeah I just noticed that, can't remember exactly from memory what was on the bag either. But Chix meal was first, then a grain. Oils, eggs vits and mins were also added. It sounded pretty good. Not badly priced either. Was $20 for 3kg or $50ish for the 7kg bag. Curious to know if anyone has used it yet and what they think. I have to say, I don't think that's all that cheap. A premium kibble wouldn't be that much more. I guess it's not cheap, but I thought the ingredients looked a lot better than most of the so called "premium" kibbles on our market. That's why I'm interested to know if anyone has tried it.

I just emailed them to see if they can supply me with some details about the puppy and adult small/med breed formula. I'm very interested in giving it a go.

I was shopping in Big W today and came across this brand of dog food. Personally I have never seen or heard of it before. I had a quick read of the bag, and it doesn't seem to bad. Just wondering if anyone has tried it before or know anyone who has. http://www.hypropetcare.com.au/our-brands/hypro-super-premium/adult-small-medium-breeds

Absolutely, I'm just as passionate about Ocsars Law as the next, like I said I don't support the actions of these people or anything about what they do. I personally think it's disgusting, and I would never support a puppy farm, in anyway. But the initial post was about Big Brands cashing in on todays trend of DD. People like DD, I like DD, most of them are adorable. But I would never buy from a Pet Shop or Puppy Farm, only from a person that I know has put in as much work as the next breeder to make sure they produce quality healthy puppies. But it's unfortunate that most people don't realise this. And don't realise what their supporting by buying their DD from a pet store. That's what I believe we need to fix.
-
Not promoting DD, not arguing that a DD has anything over a pure bred dog, just stating what I have come to know as a fact. People like DD, so why wouldn't major brands cash in on that, it's business, it's sad but it's business. Puppy Farms are sad and the people who run them should ashamed of themselves, and the government should put a stop to it. But people are buying these dogs because they know no better. If a DD is what they want, and if a registered breeder can't give them that, where do you think they are going to go????? A pet shop and we all know where most of these dogs come from. It's sad, we don't like it, but sadely it's reality. I personally don't support Puppy Farms or Pet Shops. I've stopped living in fantasy land, people want these dogs, most of us don't support it, but again it's just what has become.

The "truth", like it or not... is that there is no "designer" crossbreed that can be "created" thats criteria isn't already satisfied by a purebred. obviously this is what a lot of people still think, but I think there are just as people now a days that will beg to differ, sorry.
-
I don't understand what the problem is here either!!!!!!!! I think we all need to move with the times, designer dogs are what some people are after, like it or not, love your breed, think there is no reason to cross two perfectly appropiate breeds?? Doesn't matter. People want designer dogs, poodle x's seem to be the fav. I think the only way the fight is ever going to be "won" is by breeding healthy dogs to create healthy designer dogs. Otherwise the fight will be lost. Sorry I think it's now a fact, like it or not................

I think the cocker spaniel is your dog. And a bonus that the family like them too. I would contact a few breeders and have a chat. Good luck with your hunt, so exciting adding to your family.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We just got home from the vet, they didn't have a vet in, they mixed up the roster. So going back at 1pm. The vet nurse, did confirm it's a paralysis tick though. And she couldn't believe he picked one up this time of year. She was also stunned that he is showing no symptoms, when it has obviously been on him for several days. Fingers crossed he is just one very lucky boy, and he doesn't go downhill fast.
-
Don't walk him for a few days, keep him quiet. Thanks will do, will also keep him with me as much as possible. Have vet appoint. in an hour so will know more then, but all is looking great atm. Thanks again.
-
Thank you for the reassurance, glad to hear that your dog made it, I'll be so paranoid now. Try not to worry too much!! You have done all the important things i.e. tick is off and monitoring for any symptoms. Handy to be going to the vet tomorrow, even if it just helps put your mind at ease! I have removed dozens of paralysis ticks off my dogs over the years, for many years we lived in a VERY bushy area backing onto a national park. Despite using fortnightly tick treatments the buggers still seemed to fine their way onto the dogs. There was only once where I missed one (on my border), she developed voice change and hind quarters weakness and she was rushed straight to the vet. We caught it early and she was home two days later. I do remember it being rather costly though... $500-800 by memory?? Sure your boy will be fine, just keep an eye on him and if you are at all worried best to take him straight to the vet.

Thank you everyone. He has been ok during the night, haven't checked on him since 3, so will wake him up shortly and will take him outside soon to do a wee to see if he can. I normally feel so guilty, when we go on holidays and leave him behind, now I feel terrible.
-
Thats it for sure. It's possible he could have picked it up at my parents but thought it would be more likely my sisters. Can anyone guess how long it's been on him if it's approx. 7mm.? Thank you for helping. I hope your dog was ok in the end
