same, a couple of times Marley has jumped at mine and the kids face, and the same as you I dont want to have to be nervous with him around my kids or anyone else's for that matter, and I dont want him to be one of those dogs where I am constantly saying, don't put ya face near the dog...... not that ya should have ya face in the dogs face... I just don't want it to be a problem, so yeah some idea's would be great as yeah the yelping hasnt really helped me either lol

Hi all I have 11week old bitza, who has starting biting and snap'n at my kids during play....... kids are girl 14, boy 12, girl 8.... with me and OH Marley is reasonably well behaved, usually a short sharp "uh uh" or growling "NO" will stop him doing what he is doing, but there is the odd occassion he grabs my hand when playing and wont let go and I have to resort to a tap on the backside to get him off, but that doesnt happen often, with the kids however it is really becoming a issue for them and for me as I am getting tired of hearing "muuuuuuuuum" lol when he is playing with the kids he can tend to get a lil snappy, or even bite, not hard that would hurt me but the kids are finding it a issue, if I am in the room and give a loud "uh uh" usually he stops depends how excited he is, there are times he will bark at me for telling him off, anyway I would really love some idea's.... I realise this is probably perfectly normal puppy behaviour, but I can't be around the kids and the dog or within "uh uh" distance all the time...... so how can I stop the barking at me when he is told of? do I need to? and mainly I would like to know what the kids can do to stop the biting and snappy??

Marley'z Mum replied to koalathebear's topic in Puppy Chat
how does clicker training work? -
after all this, cant be sure of his age,..... if we go by what we were told... he is 10wks today, personally I would have thought he wasn't skinny enough for kelpie, kelpie's are tall and thin well long legged, and this lil man is short and stout?? i dunno lol
-
please look at my other post calld what do u think, there is a couple of clearer photos there, an let me know what u think pls
-
lol @ teddy bear in him, he is pretty adorable :-) but i am bias hehe Koalathebear a few ppl think he has kelpie in him an looks like ur elbie.... I dunno what to think anymore, think i mite have a bitsa on my hands... I still think he is the cutest thing EVER!

and this one, hopefully these are a lil clearer than other ones I have posted

Hi all, hopefully this works..... this is pic of my marley, what do u think he has in him? we were told his mum was staffy x ridgeback and his dad was pure staffy???? but some ppl have brought to my attention that maybe not???
-
thanks everyone for the replies... I honestly wouldnt be suprised what he had in him, didnt come from the most honest of ppl, i myself thought he looked a lil like elbie... Will try an post a clearer pic later, he has a very broad chest which is unusual for kelpies isnt it? An the brindle colour? He is full brindle,..... I önce had a corgi cross ridgebak who lookd like a taller skinnier corgi, if it wasnt for the perfèct ridge on her bak u wouldnt have known she had it in her I was told this lil cutie's mum was ridge cross staffy only an dad was pure staffy.... Prob lied 2 :-/ doesnt make us love hìm any less tho :-)

ok wow... alot can happen when ya dont get on the puter for a while.....hehe I didn't mean to sound snappy, tis just a lil frustrating when it seems like cross breeds are looked down upon... I can assure you this little boy is very loved! I understand that being a cross breed it is hard to tell what temperament he may have... my intention was to find out what ppls experiences have been with staffy's..... here is a photo of my georgeous lil munchkin they arent the greatest photo's but it gives you some idea of what he looks like, all the really good photo's are to big to upload
-
there is no predicting what ANY breed will do! Cross breed or not! I just wanted to know a little about staffy's I really dont understand y crossbreeds r treatd like leppers, i understand this mostly for purebreds but as there is no CROSSbreed forum, y should they need there own forum?? I didnt think it would be such a issue, this isnt the first time i have had the reaction of crossbreed? CROSSbreed? CROSSBREED?? Again i just wantd to know a lil bout staffys maybe see a few fotos...... Sometimes i wonder y i post at all

hi all I am the owner of a 10wk old staffy x ridgeback, i have to say, there is barely any ridgeback in him, he is small no giant paws to grow into an he is brindle an everyone that meets him goes "oh he is cute, is he a staffy" to the point i have stop'd sayin x..... I was just wondering if some staffy owners could give me some ideas what i mite have to look forward to with this georgeous boy.... I have never had a staffy but have heard wonderful things bout em.... I am already amazed at how much he just loves my kids, he is always happy to see me but its just different how happy he is to see the kids....
-

Long story, explained in the welcome new member's section..... but I got him from a not so nice environment... I realise the laundry is cold, he has a bed in there that is slightly raised of the floor and he has a heat up bean bag that i heat up before he is put to bed... at the moment I cant afford a crate, I would love to crate train him but just cant... at the moment I am working on trying natamalie's idea I really appreciate everyones comments but things arent sometimes as cut and dry as they may seem
-
i understand the laundry isnt ideal, i dont have access to a crate atm..... There isnt a door on the laundry thats y i have a gate on there I would love 2 have him in my room however he still isnt toilet trained an my bedroom is carpet'd...... Any ideas?
-
hi all Any ideas on this one would be very helpful, my puppy hates bedtime, he sleeps in the laundry, i have a gate up 2 keep him in there, he has his bed an his toys in there, but when i go to bed an put him in there for sleep time there is still alot of barkin an cryin goin on for atleast 15mins maybe longer, i leave the radio on..... I have only had him 2weeks, will he grow out of it or is there sumfin i can do?? Oh an he is 9wks old
-
i am also looking for puppy classes.... Does anyone know of any south of the river? I am near the airport?
-
Yes my partner does take him out before he is put back to bed, the only food he gets is a small treat for toileting in the right spot..... I just ask coz I have read a couple of posts from ppl saying there pup's around the same age hold through the night
-
Hi was just wondering if ppl could help me.... I have a nearly 9wo pup, maybe 8wo (long story) we have been toilet training, and so far we are doing really well, with the occassional mistake in the house, I dont have access to a crate so can't do crate training.... at night time when I go to bed Marley sleeps in the laundry he has his bed in there and his water... I also put newspaper on the floor to make it easier to pick up any mess... but I am wondering if by doing this I am contradicting the message of toilet training.... I go to bed around 9:30 so Marley gets put to bed then, my partner comes home from work around midnight and takes marley out to the toilet, and has a play with him and spends time with him till about 2ish am then he is put back to bed, I then get up for work around 6am and take him out for the toilet.... but he still seems to not be able to hold on till morning... by placing the newspaper have I made it ok for him to not hold on? if so can I fix it? also I thought pups wont soil there den, well the laundry is kinda his den, but he has toilet'd close to his bed and his water.... is this coz I put the newspaper in there? Ideally I would have had a crate and it probably would have been easier to teach him to hold on, but dont have one therefore any advice on how to get him to hold on till morning would be great :-)
-
marley sleeps in the laundry at night, he has a bed that is off the ground and I give him one of those heated up wheat bag things..... I take him out before I go to be about 9:30 10ish and then my partner gets home from work around midnight and he takes him out before he comes to bed.... I have been putting newspaper down in the corner in the hope that he goes on that over night rather than the floor (little less to clean up) should I not put the newspaper down?? so that it encourages him to hold on??
-
thanks everyone for all your helpful hints, i think so far i am doin all the right things, i take him out as soon as he wakes, when he has had a play all those things, but there are occassions when i take him out an he does a wee, an he gets heaps of praise the odd treat if he is the mood, then we step bak inside an he will do another wee with in minutes of the first??? An he will do that outside aswell 1 wee than another within minutes.... It makes it a lil hard to stay ontop of...... Anyway we will keep tryin an hopefully he gets it sooner rather than later
-
very helpfull thankyou.... I was worried about giving him lil treats incase it made his stomach worse.... I have to admit I gave him some chicken over the weekend and his poo got a lil firmer..... will be getting something different than pal puppy definately tomorrow thanks sooooo much!! Nekhbet... he is a great chewer, but he just isn't interested in the biscuits

lol @ following me around the forum... I am gratefull u are hehe... I have no idea what he was being fed before I didnt really think to ask to be honest, when i went to see them they were just eating and what ever it was they were feeding him was stuck to the roof of his mouth almost looked like wet bread or something like it,.... they didnt really seem like the ppl that would have put much thought into it as they were selling the puppies from 6weeks, I had every intention of going to look at the puppies and asking if they would keep one untill it was 8weeks for me, but when I got there, they werent the type of ppl that looked like they could be trusted with a deposit and they were going to get rid of the puppies anyway..... I got him last wednesday and they told me he was 7weeks, when the vet saw him he said if he had had to guess he would have said he was 6weeks so he is either 7weeks or 8weeks old today????? anyway I was thinking of trying to tucker time, I used it with a dog I had a few years ago, so looks like I will be getting that tomorrow..... do u recommend changing gradually from the pal puppy to the tucker time even though he has a upsett tummy already?
