Decent Puppy Classes In The Lane Cove, Sydney, Area?
sidoney replied to sidoney's topic in Puppy Chat
Thanks for the recommendation. What did you like about them? -
OK ... I think I have the right forum now!!! A good friend and his family have just obtained a Ridgie puppy (from ethical registered breeder, etc.). They are looking for puppy classes in the Lane Cove area (Sydney). There are good and bad puppy classes so I thought I'd ask if anyone wanted to recommend any.

Nsw Public Lands Management Submissions - Closes Aug 3
sidoney replied to sidoney's topic in General Dog Discussion
I just submitted and it didn't take me long. This is what I wrote. Others' views may vary. -
I received a forwarded email today. Seems there have not been many submissions to the Inquiry. Now is the time to say something and have an input. If you live in NSW and have any interest in use and management of public lands in NSW, go and make a submission, doesn't have to be a big one. Please share as widely as you can! OMG those warts! Otherwise they look great. The focus is looking much better. Don't worry about that single one, one here and there is pretty normal, the rest look good and the moving ones are fine so it's not a moving subject issue. Just the one of B coming towards you is a little fuzzy out of the others. Did you crop that heavily or is that how you took it? That can lose some sharpness, doing that. Another thing to check is how much you are zoomed on the horse, and how steady you are, if you are zoomed right in you need to keep that shutter speed up to avoid camera shake. My Arabian is named "Wart". He picked it up because he was one of the young horses I looked after at a stud and of course it didn't matter what we called them around the stables, because they'd get lovely new names when they were sold. Except I bought him. I *did* try to name him something else but I don't even remember what it was. 22 years later, he's still Wart. You won't have to go through *that*.

Great pics. They look fantastic together. Looks like they had fun!

I'm glad my dogs have not discovered the joys of lemon grass! I have a lovely big clump. I would not mind sharing but I would not want them to eat it all. Here is some quick google info about medicinal qualities.

I can understand that due process has to be followed but how clear cut was this case? Due process can be taken to far methinks.

Thanks for the heads-up! We have one large soft crate and three heated pet beds heading this way. After the post above I'll be sure to test them. CBL how long ago did you buy it? It should be covered by a warranty of some sort.

Can You Please Copy And Paste The News Article In The Opening Thread.
sidoney replied to SwaY's topic in In The News
I'm pretty sure that's a setting you have. I had the first post repeated every page a while back suddenly (I'd never had it before), and I wondered about it, and someone told me it was a setting, and how to change it, so I did. I don't get the repeats any more. I'm trying to remember what I did to change it back but haven't figured it out yet ... I imagine that a post in the help forum would get a response. -
Well that's lucky. I saw in the news article that they thought the water cushioned the fall ... but did anyone see the Mythbusters drop Buster into water and his legs came off? Maybe broken water is "softer" than flat water.

Daaaaaawwwww too cute! -
What a beautiful clear communicator she is and don't her dogs pay attention. The understanding between them makes it look so easy and belies the training that has gone in to their performance.

How you play tug depends on the dog. If the dog is a bit timid and submissive, let the dog win a lot. And praise it for winning. It will give the dog a bit of a boost. If the dog is pushy and dominant, you win. If the dog gives up it needs to win more. Quit while the dog wants more.

Use it for soup stock! Or throw it out. It also has saltpetre in it.
-
Another vote for Kong Wubba here, it's the favourite so far. And you can do some tug with it too.

What a tragedy for you and your family. A horrible experience. I hope you get some closure.

I think the status has been changed since the original posting.

Sending A Clingy Dog - Passed!
sidoney replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Susan Garrett on the One Jump DVD has something interesting to say about this. As a test, in a seminar they had training buddies split into two groups. First people were to train a send to a box. Second group was to see how many positions they could be in, while the dog goes in the box. First group was asked to show how far their dogs would send to the box. Second group, instead of being asked to do what they had trained, first sent their dogs (from memory) from half the distance their training buddy sent from, and were actually able to send their dogs from further away, and the dogs were faster than those of the first group. The second group had a greater reinforcement history for the box than those that had trained distance. Soo ... build up the reinforcement history of the jump/tunnel/whatever, close by, until the dog really really wants to do it, then it will be happier to send. -

Coming when called is a good measure of your relationship with your dog ... especially when there are other interesting things around.
