  1. I'm in with Carl, Jag, Mischa and Cleo. I'll probably use a different dog each week. They're not very photogenic.
  2. Doggie Rescue had one of those in last year; he was gorgeous and loved to play ball. Took a while for him to find a home, though. I can't help but wishing him the best of luck.
  3. I've just clarified with him -- the Chi is on the chews and a 1.25mg dosage so the chews would definitely be better than the tablets! :D
  4. My best friend's Chi was recently put on Vetmedin tabs for a heart valve problem, I would be happy to pay for postage? I'm in North Sydney.
  5. 1. Large Munsterlander 2. Pharaoh Hound 3. Ibizan Hound 4. Central Asian Shepherd 5. American Staffordshire Terrier and a secret number six: Airedales.
  6. Sydney is pretty mild compared to where some of you are. It has been getting into the late 20s here lately but Carl is a dog who has never done well in the heat, so if I walk, it's before 10AM and/or after 6PM, unless it's cool or we go to the beach. If I have to go to work, I walk them early. I always have trouble getting out of bed before 6, though. I walked all 4 of mine this morning at 7:30 and it was so hot we had to stop for a few breaks! Lucky we have a pool for them to cool off in. But no air con.
  7. Carl doesn't look much better when I shave him, so you get the adorable vote from me.
  8. Very cute is what! I can see Ridgie, Kelpie and maybe GSD? Looks like he has a slight underbite in the first photo and a shortish nose, so who can really say? :p
  9. I have so much dog stuff stashed in both my wardrobe and the downstairs linen closet that it's embarrassing. Dad and I are cleaning it all out this week. Dog agility equipment in the garage needs a new home. I have well over 15 collars and I don't even know how many leads floating around, not to mention harnesses, jackets, toys, tags...
  10. I'm not a fan of Sibes at all, but she is GORGEOUS. :D
  11. Carl has slept on my bed since day one. And not on the foot of it, either; he sleeps next to me on the pillows. Sometimes he takes himself down to the end of the bed if he gets too warm. Mischa sleeps in the open crate at the end of the bed or one of the 3 dog beds in my room. In winter she sometimes sleeps in my bed, under the blankets. If she's lying on the bed when I get in to sleep, she stays on it.
  12. I'm technically a 'single parent', but I live with my fam so not sure it counts. We have 4 dogs; two of them were my rescues but Jag has become my mum's dog. Occasionally he acknowledges me. Carl and Mischa are 'my' dogs; they sleep in my room and follow me everywhere. I feed, walk, groom, bathe and train them. If I wasn't around, none of those things (except feeding) would happen! I buy their toys and some food, but my parents pay for most of the bills such as worming, and the bulk of their food. I pay for anything 'extra' like dental work, fees for kennel club, etc. And their yearly vaccs. If I lived on my own, I could definitely afford the two of them financially, with a tightish budget. Time-wise, I have more than enough for them. They monopolise the time I don't spend working. I take them everywhere I can with me, whether it's work or to a friend's or whatever. They're my family and I treat them as such! I could handle a third. I do sometimes train and exercise Jag, but only when he feels like it.
  13. I'm a recent crate convert. We have 4 dogs (and 1 cat here) and the oldest is 9. Never used one before now. I bought one from work a week ago thinking it might come in handy. And HOW! I've popped a blanket over it so it's more denlike. Carl has taken to it; the other day he crawled in there when the thunder started (he's a stormphobe). He also has a fear of people so I'll be using it to give him 'time out' while we have guests or when we're in a new place. It's also great for separating one dog from the rest while giving out treats, especially since Mischa is food aggressive. I'm going to try leaving Carl crated tomorrow while I'm at work (5 hours) and have mum let him out after a couple of hours in there. I personally wouldn't crate a dog for longer than 6 hours, though, especially since none of my dogs are destructive or have accidents. It's more for my peace of mind, really. I don't crate at night, either--I'm quite happy to share my bed with them. I do think it's valuable to crate train your dogs. My next dog will be crate trained as a pup and into adulthood so I can't advise re puppies, but there's some great advice in this thread already!
  14. My nine year old Miniature Pinscher is only just NOW starting to show signs of slowing down. She's still super active and ready to go all the time, but she takes a little longer to get out of bed these days and enjoys her creature comforts a little more.
  15. If you want small and confident, you can't go past a Miniature Pinscher. Low shedding, they make great watchdogs but aren't overly yappy, plenty of energy to burn on agility or whatever (they'll go all day if you want them to!). Really a big dog in a small dog's body. They aren't precious, either, both of mine will roll in the mud, go swimming or generally be little buggers.
  16. We have 4 adult dogs here; the youngest is 2.5 and the oldest is almost 9. They all get fed twice a day with some exceptions. The younger two are garbage guts and very insistent about what time they get fed (usually 5/6AM and 5PM), but my two (Carl and Mischa) are happy to eat whenever. They only really 'pester' me for food if I haven't given them breakfast on purpose or whatever. Neither of them is huge on food but they usually eat what they're offered. Depending on my schedule, they mostly eat before 9AM and then again at around 8PM. I never feed them until after they've exercised, so they sometimes don't even eat until 11 or 12PM. Fortunately they don't mind! If I stay somewhere else for the night, neither of them eats dinner/breakfast. They wait until I get home.
  17. White for Bichons. The most common colour in Min Pins I've seen is black and tan. Although having said that, I've hardly seen any other MP owners in the 9+ years we've had Mischa. My favourite is stag red, obviously, though our other Pin is b+t. I don't mind the blue and tan, either.
  18. Good to see that Min Pins are in some people's lists! Toys Bichon Frise Miniature Pinscher English Toy Terrier Terriers Glen of Imaal Airdale American Staffordshire Norwich Terrier Fox Terrier (any coat) Gundogs Italian Spinone Lagotto Large Munsterlander Hounds Pharaoh Hound Bluetick Coonhound Ibizan Hound Working Dogs Australian Shepherd Dutch Sheperd White Swiss Shepherd Utility Dogue du Bordeaux German Pinscher Rottweiler Non-sporting Shih Tzu Dalmatian Boston Terrier
  19. Usually once every couple of days here with 3 small dogs and 1 medium. We have a relatively big backyard and they tend to mostly go on walks.
  20. So I'm planning on getting a fifth dog sometime in the next few years (not for a while yet because of uni), and I'm having trouble with breeds. My personal dog is a mutt and I love him to death, so I will always own a rescue dog of some description, but I'm interested in showing/agility competing so I obviously need a purebred for that. What I can offer: - 1 hour walks x twice a day - Agility and obedience three times a week - Outings (i.e. beach, dog park, friend's places) twice a week - someone is home most of the time here, if not there are 4 other dogs - plenty of human and canine interaction; we have a busy family - mental and physical stimulation - indoor/outdoor access to a large house and backyard with a swimming pool - training sessions at least once a day - lots of love and affection! :D What I'd prefer in a breed: - low to no shedding - short to medium-length hair (can hand-strip or clip if necessary) - social (people and dogs) - easy to train/intelligent - obedient - moderate prey-drive - non-hyperactive The only breeds I really don't like are big slobbery ones (i.e. mastiffs), Labs/Retrievers (too much shedding!!!), and the spaniels (i.e. Cockers). It's also important that they are able to co-exist peacefully with out existing animals. We have: 1 x 2yo male Bichon Frise 1 x 6yo female Miniature Pinscher 1 x 8yo female Minature Pinscher 1 x 6yo male Staffy/terrier 1 x 7mo male cat (indoor/outdoor) I'm really partial to terriers () and I've already looked into Glen of Imaal Terriers, Airdales and Norwich Terriers. Any suggestions?
  21. Wellllll... With Carl, if he doesn't eat his food in 15 mins or so, I just take it away and wait til the next meal time. He can be a difficult eater in the sense that sometimes he is slow, too anxious or just not in the mood. Jag and Cleo are rubbish bins on legs who will eat anything, and I mean ANYTHING. Including lettuce! Mischa, on the other hand... I tend to cater to her a bit more despite my '15 mins or you get nothing' rule. But in my defense, she's almost 9 years old, and she is pretty skinny. If she won't eat her raw egg, I cook it for her. If she doesn't feel like roo mince, I give her fish. If she wants to eat her bone indoors, I let her. :o I feel awful if she doesn't get to eat because she really feels the cold and whenever I see her last few ribs sticking out I just. She is my little princess and she gets away with far too much food-wise, but the others certainly don't!
  22. 2 boys (both 10kg+) and 2 girls (both under 3 kilos) here. No issues at all. My male terrier is the alpha and they all know it. The pack order here is very clearly defined. Helps that they're desexed.
  23. We have 2 boys and 2 girls here at present, and before that we had another female. Have to say, although I love Mischa dearly, my boys are much smoochier/biddable and generally more affectionate. Mischa has her moments, but it's on her terms.
