  1. I know that I am not one of the most popular posters here, in fact a few of you would love the day that I am never heard of again. Still I am feeling compelled to post at a moment when I am grieving the unexpected loss of my heart dog....my golden retriever. I can only hope that at moments like these we can all put our disagreements aside and realise that, at the end of the day, we all have the one thing in common and that is the love for our pets. Okay, where do I start....I had Sophie since she was 8 weeks old, I purchased her from a very ethical breeder and she was my heart dog, never did she show a nasty side, she was the epitome of a great dog....a loving disposition, no aggressive bone in her body...her tail forever wagging...I so loved her with all my heart and soul. She was quick to learn what was expected of her, never a hassle from that girl, a heart as big as the universe. Yesterday I noticed that she was acting a little differently, quieter than her normal self....at feeding time she still ate but not as much as she would normally eat, she didn't come up to me for cuddles, she just lied there....I thought to myself that something was amiss and made a point of keeping a very close eye on her.... Today I approached her for the 100th time to see if there was any sign of improvement, I had hoped that 24 hours on she would have snapped back to her usual self....but instead of coming to me for cuddles and that tail wagging furiously, she just sat there. I immediately came in and rang the after hours number of my local vet, told him that my sophie was out of sorts and that I wanted her to be looked at. Okay, 20 mins later I was at the vet's. He took her temperature and said it was slightly elevated, he started to feel her abdominal area and said he felt that she had a large mass and asked if I agreed to an ultrasound....I didnt hesitate. Anyway, the conclusion, to my shock and horror, was that she had a large cancerous tumour near the spleen. I asked if it could be removed along with the spleen given that dogs along with humans can survive without a spleen.....he said that he did not feel she would survive the operation, he suggested that if I was adamant in wanting to go ahead with exploratory surgery he would go ahead with it but he didnt feel this was in Sophie's best interest as she wouldnt have survived the surgery, he said, in no uncertain term that she was dying. He said the most humane thing to do was to have Sophie put to sleep. I didnt feel I had a choice and I could not bear the thought of Sophie suffering so Sophie was sent to the rainbow bridge, she went away peacefully. I asked the vet to cut a snippet of her coat so I could take it home with me. Before coming home I just had to go to the nearest booze shop and purchased a bottle of bourbon; I so hate the stuff and given that I barely touch booze it wasnt easy to have a few guzzles. My hubby loves his bourbon and cola, I can hardly tolerate the stink of that. It sure helps with easing the pain of grief and shock but I know that when the effects wear off I will be back to square one, having to come to grips with the loss of my beloved Sophie. LOVE YOU FOREVER, MY DARLING GIRL SOPHIE, RIP and thank you for 8 magnificent years.
  2. I am not so sure, RSG. One only has to look at Pet Link amongst other places to see the over abundance suppy of puppies on an every day basis, wayyy too many imo.
  3. There are people around that should never own an animal, for sure...Do you really think that dogs are dumped due to being "poorly bred" ? and what constitutes a "poorly bred" dog? I do agree that people buy dogs that are not suitable for them, the novelty wears off, they can't be bothered with the training aspect, too much like 'hard work', they deem a dog to be too costly, can't be bothered with the grooming, etc etc.
  4. I am against too many rules being implemented but what other solution do you suggest, other than desexing, in keeping the overpopulation problem in check? I know that part of the problem is due to puppy millers and large scale byb....but I don't doubt that the oops litter happens in great numbers also....
  5. This man is simply talking shit and I don't doubt that he knows it too! He is only concerned with his wallet and not much else, pathetic bastard!
  6. Good advice, RSG....the only concern is in the encouragement of owners to desex their pets...that can work with a fair few people but there will always be those individuals that are adamantly against the idea of desexing. I will never forget the time when I was trying to rehome an adult dog that I had saved from a bullet. She was entire but I had stipulated, in my ad, that she would need to be desexed BEFORE being adopted out; people were welcome to come and see her and if they were happy with her and willing to take her on and I was satisfied that they were responsible people, they would need to come back one week later (I also offered to deliver her) after she was desexed....well, I certainly was not expecting the barrage of abuse that I got especially so from one woman in particular. She said that she wanted the dog (via email correspondence) BUT did not want me to desex her! She said that she felt it was cruel to desex animals, that it's an interferance with nature, blah blah blah. I replied that I wasn't going to let her go without desexing her and that my mind was firmly made up, I also explained to her that desexing the dog was for the dog's best interest and started explaining all the pro's....but NO, she would not hear of it....suffice to say that with such an attitude there was no way in hell that she stood a chance in adopting this dog. In time I did end up finding the perfect home but it was a learning curb for me. Perhaps this woman truly was against desexing for the stupid reasons she gave or she may have had ulterior motives in not wanting me to desex....but the unfortunate thing is that there will always be people that share that opinion.
  7. Things are getting beyond RIDICULOUS! I cannot see how a dog rushing at someone on the other side of the fence prove menacing???? It isnt as though they can actually attack a person if the fence is acting as the barrier . With such a law in place, your average joe blow who happens to detest dogs can make a complaint about the slightest thing and one is faced with having to declare one's dog as "menacing" ????? PATHETIC !!! My mum owns a fox terrier and a mini fox terrier, she has an 8' fence in the front yard; on one particular day both dogs were out in the front yard with her (normally they are in the back yard). A teenager walked past, he could see the dogs well ahead of time....the dogs barked at him a couple of times, there was no way in hell they could have gotten to him....yet this weakling got home and whinged to his father and the next thing you know....his father approaches my mother and complains that her dogs frightened his boy! The dogs only barked twice...which is typical of most dogs when somebody walks past the boundary. Things are getting way ouf of hand in a world where people are forever suing others for the littlest of reasons!
  8. I am sure other posters will come up with ideas on how to curtail the dumpage of animals....I can't really think of what can be done to prevent people committing such hideous acts! In my field of work I encounter people from all walks of life yet the cruelty that some people possess will never cease to amaze me. It so frustrates and angers me that people can be so heartless and cold towards defenceless animals. I can only hope that Karma pays such individuals a visit!!!
  9. You said it right, these individuals do need psychiatric treatment, no doubt....and punishment to boot! I can't imagine how they can ensure that this woman is never going to own a pet, she can easily get away with owning a dog/cat/etc...and the authorities will be none the wiser, as for relying on friends to dob her in.....I seriously doubt it...
  10. I agree with Mason2009; perhaps the neighbours are the understanding type or they may harbour grudges hence I wouldn't want to take that risk, I would most definitely be putting my animals first as you can never be too sure. I would tell them that I found the pet rat dead in the front yard so as to avoid them suspecting that your dogs may have killed it after all....that is if it's realistically possible that their pet rat could have wandered to your front yard.
  11. Moselle

    *sigh*

How were the police expected to know which one of the three to target? ;) Steve said it all, don't blame the police for doing their jobs. Blame the knob of an owner. The owner of the dogs is definitely a knob but, as you said, how did the police know which dog to target??? Some cops do seem to have a heightened sense of self importance and trying to run over a dog is simply apalling, WTF??!! :vomit:
  12. This makes my stomach turn, obviously a case of someone with anger management issues...no excuses will suffice! Animal cruelty definitely deserves some real jail time....she got off wayyy too lightly.
  13. Moselle the only one spoiling this thread is you. If you don't like what someone has said ignore it. There's no reason to be replying to absolutely every body in a thread that has a differing opinion from you! I am not replying to everyone due to differing opinions, MB. I am replying as a means to defend myself esp from the same posters who have a habit of misconstruing everything I say and making a point of singling me out even though others say the exact same thing as myself!
  14. No sorry I cant make a point of that at all because this is a public forum and you're posting photos in this thread just to try to prove the point that in your own mind, standards shouldnt be adhered to. And that isnt a photo of me in my avatar. Even a blind and really stupid person would know that Say what? :D I gathered a very long long time ago that humans don't inhabit the body of a bird although that is a common belief in certain cultures....but then again I am noticing some similarities between yourself and that macaw....macaws do have a possibly painful bite, don't they? lol...that beak does look a tad menacing? lol
  15. :D You have, infact. Maybe you have forgotten? NO, I have not. The proof is in the pudding, or so they say? Where's the proof? off the top of my head, the discussion you had about the buff coloured duck tollers and how people should breed them and be able to show them if they liked as who cares if they could still do the job they were bred to do, if they are for the pet market I've lost myself with that one! lol I never said that buff coloured tollers should be bred solely for the PET MARKET! What I did, in fact, say was that it wouldn't be such a bad idea if buff tollers were accepted in the standard as I couldn't understand why it was considered a NO NO.... wow shoot me for saying that!
  16. That one is a cross breed! Even the breeders of them acknowledge that as fact. Also known as 'confetti schnauzers' Yes but isn't that the case with all purebreds? All purebreds started off as a concoction of different breeds. Wouldn't take too long for merle schnauzers to breed "true".... oh my dear dog.. The title is rare or disqualifing colours in breeds, not post a heap of cross bred pics. Yes yes yes....another to add to the list of posters who are making it their mission to hound me, LOL. THEY ARE NOT crossbred dogs, they are IN FACT disqualifiable colours so I suggest you check your facts before spluttering nonsense! Don't paint yourself as a KNOW ALL when in fact you don't know it all! Highlighted the bit that you appeared to have glossed over. The "merle" that you posted a pic of, is not of a "rare" or "disqualifying" colour, it's a cross bred. I did no such thing as "glossing" over any of the photos I posted! To say that a dog is "endearing" is not deserving of being crucified, it was merely a passing comment, no different to what other posters have said on this very thread!! If you are pertaining to the merle schnauzer....how did I gloss over that? Once again, do you need to SPOIL this thread with your false allegations?
  17. :D You have, infact. Maybe you have forgotten? NO, I have not. The proof is in the pudding, or so they say? Where's the proof?
  18. Ellz, it is a darn shame that some posters esp Raz has made it her mission to run me down just about every time I post! AND it all stemmed from the thread about ferrets and differing opinions that emanated from there. I should have known that peace could not be had for too long.....
  19. No sorry I cant make a point of that at all because this is a public forum and you're posting photos in this thread just to try to prove the point that in your own mind, standards shouldnt be adhered to. And that isnt a photo of me in my avatar. Even a blind and really stupid person would know that Once again, you are putting words in my mouth, I am minding my own business and yet you are throwing around unfair accusations! Nowhere in this thread have I suggested that standards should not be adhered to!!! I have genuinely uploaded photos of diqualifiable colours as per this thread requested, I have not behaved any differently from any other poster so therefore unless you are going to crucify all other posters in this thread....I suggest you leave me the heck alone! Stop obsessing with all that I do and say!
  20. That one is a cross breed! Even the breeders of them acknowledge that as fact. Also known as 'confetti schnauzers' Yes but isn't that the case with all purebreds? 21. if they are Newf's I'll eat a hat I'll eat a fluffy hat. Where are some people finding these photos? Oh and judging by the way you look on your avatar I don't doubt you would be capable of eating more than just a fluffy hat. :D
  22. if they are Newf's I'll eat a hat :D I'll eat a fluffy hat. Where are some people finding these photos? Pokin' fun at me again? singling me out AGAIN? you don't seem to be making a habit of hounding other posters as far as I can see so how about you leave me out of your equation! Can you make a point of not pestering me anymore....lest we forget that you had the gaul to accuse ME of pestering you...
  24. Agree. I'm not trying to promote oodles but my MSx poodles coat is MUCH easier to care for than my pure MS's coat. She has knots if she isn't brushed every second day. I never need to brush him between grooms and he doesn't knot at all. I don't agree with oodle breeders making claims about easy to care for coats, just as I don't agree with generalisations that oodle coats are somehow harder to manage than any long coat. No truer comment has been made...long coated dogs of the maltese, poodle genre is just the same as so far as management is concerned irrespective of whether it is purebred or crossbred.
