Don't play with fire If you can't stand the heat! Your comment stands to confirm even more so what a hypocritical bunch you can be and guess what? I still do NOT agree that the poor staffy or mastiff should take the wrap for the attack on Harry! -

Moselle, I fail to understand why: * you'd take a reporters view of what Mr Linke said as gospel - its not like you heard him comment yourself. You don't know what else he said and how selectively he may have been quoted or even misquoted. Anyone who has dealt with media knows what people say and what journalists report don't necessarily match. The fact of the matter is you're interpreting a media report and have no idea about the intent of Mr Linke's words. It doesn't seem to matter to you at all that the local RSPCA did not put the boot into pitbulls. Believe me when I say that your local RSPCA CEO would have done so in steel capped Doc Martins. * you continue to use a second hand report of a statement to infer conclusions that you cannot support. * you are so heated about this. I am not heated about this but I am annoyed given that it is still continuing; I have stipulated time and time again that I am still of the same opinion and that is that I have found Mr. Linke's statement to be incriminatory to the mastiff and staffy, I haven't wavered and also said that I am not about to change my mind! Ever since I started this thread everyone has been jumping up and down and constantly barraging me with questions and wild accusations, namely the one implying that I have a hidden agenda (post written by robbi); gosh what next?? ....how many times do I need to go on repeating myself? And you wonder why I am getting annoyed? One other thing, you are saying that I am wrongly taking a reporter's view of what Mr. Linke said as gospel....I could turn that around and say "how do you know that it was a reporter's view?" Can you actually confirm that it was indeed the reporter who turned things around? Given that Mr. Linke supposedly came on here and said his piece, I would have thought that if indeed his own wording had been misconstrued that he himself would have tried to correct this! -

my dog breathes, i breathe therefore i must be my dog Sorry haven't read the thread but that is soooo deep dude :p Jaxx'sBuddy you crack me up. However you type, your dog does not type, therefore you cannot be your dog.. or perhaps when you breath you become your dog.. On a more serious note I have not read the entire thread but I found no problem with the initial comment (made by Michael Link). All he is saying is that the dogs could have been anything and that a more common mastiff type, staffy type or cross breed dog could have easily been mistaken for an APBT by a member of the general public. Given that true, purebred APBT's are pretty rare the likelyhood that it actually was one is pretty damn low. Thats a fact. Perhaps it was, perhaps it was even a cross bred pitt or perhaps it was a red nosed staffy/mastiff/dogue cross. Could have been anything really and that is all he's saying. It would make no sense for him to say "it could have been a Kelpie, poodle, Lab or dalmation" which along with a generic staffy or mastiff cross are all fairly common breeds - BUT they are breeds that are extremely unlikely to be mistaken for a pitt by someone who doesn't know any better He is NOT saying that at all! He did not say that the attack on the maltese could have been carried out by "anything." He is not even saying that the attack could have easily been mistaken for a "staffy type." He is saying that the attack could have been carried out by a staffy, mastiff or crossbreed....The word "type" does not figure into his statement at all! -

I think you are seeing shadows, lol. What agenda would I possibly have :p I have not been making prolonged attacks on Mr. Linke, in fact I have not been attacking him at all; all I am guilty of is not seeing things from your point of view and sticking to my original interpretation of his statement, why don't you just shoot me for it? Oh, the argument has not been debunked either, LOL. -

I asked for people's opinion out of curiosity and accepted their point of view. As for the rest of the thread I was constantly scrutinised and questioned simply because I was not prepared to change my mind! Perhaps you should pose the same question to other posters that were unable to accept the way I interpreted Mr. Linke's statement. I am really getting pissed off with the hypocrisy around here, there are quite a few wonderful people here but heck some of you are downright hypocritical and nasty. I am not one of the sheep and do not intend to conform to the majority simply to be a part of the herd! And I still do not agree with HIS statement and as for the rest of you, you are more than welcome to interpret his statement any way you wish, I really don't give a damn! As I said BEFORE, to each their own! Now leave me the f*** ALONE and get a life and stop turning an innocent question into some kind of saga! -

Can't be bothered with some people's infantile behaviour, lol. To each their own, hey? I am not about to change my mind and that is that! You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. This thread is a case of 'same 'ole, same 'ole' and has run its course. -

He implied nothing of the sort. You're inferring a great deal. And once again, you've selectivey quoted him and left CROSSBREDS out of the equation.. you can't have it both ways. PF, I have made it very clear on a few occasions as to WHY I have left out the CROSSBREDS part in my argument, my post number 56 explains it quite clearly. You know what my thoughts on this subject are and that is that I am not happy that HE chose to imply THAT the STAFFIE or the MASTIFF COULD have been responsible for attacking the maltese; that is finger pointing If people of oriental descent were known to have carried out violent attacks on people but it was not known exactly what part of Asia those individuals were from and all of a sudden members of the public would wrongly point the finger at say, the chinese and a spokesperson on behalf of the chinese would come out and say....oh no, the attack could have been carried by the japanese, I am compelled to wonder what the Japanese would have to say about that I bet that would not have been considered "politically correct." GOTTA GO NOW AND GET SOME WORK DONE, CANT BE SITTING IN FRONT OF THIS MONITOR ALL DAY LONG, CYA xxx. -
I had read a long time ago that in the wild very young dogs would lick their mom's face in the hope that she would regurgitate and therefore have a ready made meal. I don't think pet dogs expect that we are going to provide an instant meal, lol. Actually, I have noticed that some dogs in packs do tend to lick other dog's faces as a sign of respect, you could call it "sucking up". This same behaviour obviously applies to wild dogs. I like to think that the same reason applies, our dog lick our face as a way of displaying affection and as a sign of respect; I bet that it also takes place when they sniff the nice aroma of a roast emanating from our mouths, lol.

I have said all I need to say on this subject and it has now reached the stage where I am finding it monotonous, time for greener pastures, lol. I am sticking to my original thought which has remained constant throughout this poll. I respect your opinion even though it differs from mine and thank you for participating in this poll after all if I didn't value your opinion I would not have bothered in the very 1st place, to each their own, right? Oh, Mollassess, dont you think that vinegar'slass is more fitting? -

At the end of the day, you are most welcome to your opinion and if it makes you feel good to perceive me as a "looney" then I am most happy for you, whatever tinkles your fancy -

Your average member of the public would be hard put to identify more than 10 purebred dog breeds I reckon. Most wouldn't know the difference between a pitbull and a pachyderm - and the media's mislabellng of photos as 'pitbulls" doesn't help. Which strangely was the point I believe Mr Linke managed to make to most people it seems. Hi PF, as I have said before, I am of the thought that members of the public would be hard pressed to identify purebred dogs and that is the problem. It isn't fair to the pitbull to constantly have fingers pointing its direction whenever there are dog attacks and I know that most breeds of dogs are capable of attacking other dogs, it is not a trait that only the pitbull possesses (and yes I do believe that purebred pitties can be DA) I gather that Mr. Linke was trying to make people understand that the pitbull is being blamed unjustly BUT, YET AGAIN, he did very much imply that the attack on the poor maltese could have been carried out by a staffie or mastiff.....having said this, the staffie and mastiff look nothing alike as it is, lol. He could have make his point loud and clear without actually nominating other purebred dogs. -

Nope, not at all . It is simply showing the sentiments of DOL posters and not the public in general, lol. I must say that I am not all that surprised at the results, I have been reading DOL for a number of years, long before I joined so I had a pretty clear view as to the mentality around here, basically I had the day off yesterday and even though I suspected that the outcome would be as it has turned out I still felt like proceeding with the poll, at the end of the day it was fun , no regrets here and btw....I find Mr. Linke's explanation relating to his statement to be rather shallow, lol, his original statement was far from being "generic." wow damned if we do and damned if we dont but the only outcome is no matter what you are right... Once again, a poster wanting to put words in my mouth. You are more than entitled to your opinion, it is not a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't". Suffice to say that if I didn't want the poster's opinion I would not have started the poll? lol. And yes, I am still of the opinion that Mr. Linke went about his statement in the wrong way, wrong choice of words, not generic at all and still very much incriminating to the staffy and the mastiff -
Oh thank you for directing posters to the other thread; join the popularity queu please. . I thought that it was blunty clear that the reason I started the thread under "general dog discussion" is simpy because it would generate more attention there and most posters who participate under "general dog discussion" don't often come to the "News" section of DOL. It has certainly been most entertaining.

He is a stunner. He looks very much like a blue merle aussie, the only difference is that blue merle aussies tend to have the tan patches which this beautiful dog doesn't. Gotta say, love them aussies. -

It is always polite to go the extra mile and get one's spelling correct too given that most of us have access to 'spellcheck'....and yet how many people bother? I do apologise for leaving out a vowel in Mr. LinkE's surname and NO I wont make attempts to correct it as I dont want to stand accused of having made further changes, lol. -

"RSPCA ACT Chief executive, Michael Linke, who owns an american pit bull terrier, said it was a much maligned breed and that the dogs which attacked Harry could have been mastiffs, staffordshire bull terriers or cross breeds. Hello Mr. Linke (I will aim to email you via the RSPCA ACT website to confirm that this post is indeed from you, lol). I commend that you oppose BSL, an act that I am totally in agreeance with. I still insist that naming the staffy and mastiff is not exactly taking a "generic" route, is it? lol, it is actually naming the product, lol. You may not have set out to directly blame the staffy or mastiff but it could easily be interpreted as such by the public. You specifically stated that THE DOGS WHICH ATTACKED HARRY COULD HAVE BEEN MASTIFF, STAFFORDSHIRE BULL TERRIERS OR CROSSBREEDS. Did you find it absolutely imperative to name names? -

Actually, you ARE leaving the crossbred part of the equation out and have done so in both this thread and the one in News. So "implicating" crossbreeds isn't detrimental but IDing two other breeds is? Once again I fail to follow your logic. You do understand that Mr Linke does NOT support BSL don't you? Of course, id'ing crossbreeds is not detrimental, how can it be? it isnt exactly pointing the finger at any one breed, is it? a crossbreed could be a conglomeration of god knows how many breeds, lol. This is the reason WHY I haven't bothered with the xbreed part of his statement. I could pose the question to you....LOL. So does that go to say that you think that the xbreed part of his statement is indeed detrimental??? I would safely assume that you would answer NO to that question which is even better reason for you not to pose that question to me. Yes Mr. Linke does not support BSL but he has a lousy way of showing it. Aren't staffies or mastiffs just as likely to end up victims of BSL just as well as the pitbull???
