I would not recommend desexing a large dog at 5 mths of age, way too young. The growing process isn't complete as yet. Different people have different theories on this subject. I would say that 11-13 mths of age would be preferable.

Glad that your dobe has improved. It is risky if such a situations are left unattended as the swelling can increase to the point of blocking the airways. I lost my beloved papillon 6 years ago due to being stung by a bee. He was outside in the backyard with another dog, I had stepped out to do some shopping and when I came home about 2 hours later I noticed that his face was swollen, I put him in the car and rushed to the vet, which was about 10 mins away. No sooner did I step into the vet surgery he stopped breathing, the vet tried to give him CPR amongst other things but all attempts failed. A very very sad day for me and one which I still remember very vividly. I still miss my little Merlin.

I hope that the bulldog ended up in a pet home and not a byb or even worse....a puppy farmer! What a lying sack of shit is that prick to potray himself as something he was not.....I just hope that the $2200 he pocketed won't stand him in good stead! I am of the opinion that the breeder, especially given that she is registered, should have known better than to place implicit trust on a complete stranger. Lesson learnt, I hope. I also hope that she no longer gives dogs away and does her homework more thoroughly next time.

Whoever wrote the article deserves a swift and hard kick up the backside! So what is his/her solution? to kill every white pup so as not to be considered "negligent" ???

Have The Means To Make A Doco On Puppy Farms
Moselle replied to melzawelza's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just wanted to say that it would be a great idea to get this doco running, good for you. As for the comment on the maltese x shih tzu's underbite, that is a typical shih tzu characteristics, lol. I dont see why that would require brushing of its teeth every single day. I do find it quite entertaining when xbreeds that happen to share exactly the same characteristics as the purebreds tend to be criticised yet the purebreds seem to escape criticism, lol. Sounds a tad hypocritical to me. -
You said it beautifully casowner.

Again I ask: Did you see the animals and were you at the court case to see all the evidence from each side? Did you You have a point in saying that the RSPCA do need to answer for the way they conduct themselves but surely they cant be wrong all of the time?! You really should not be generalising and assuming that the RSPCA were wrong this time around.

;) I did see the photo but didnt see the pom sitting in the basket, lol. I did think she was fair dinkum at first, I saw the photo soon after but I had already written my post and didnt have the time there and then to edit it.

I do believe that there is more to this world than meets the eye but am very sceptical when it comes to true psychics. I think there are more charlatans than there are genuine psychics. I had read a thread on here about an animal psychic that was considered genuine by a few people but have discovered that she is far from genuine. People were emphasising how she did not request any personal information and did not want people's names yet I discovered that she stipulates this when speaking to people on the phone but when it comes time to book her you have to go through her website to book the type of service you are wanting and payment is made via a credit card; I believe that a credit card usually has a name accompanying it, lol. So much for her not needing anyone's name, huh.

Hi many thanks for the info. Me & my wife only live in medium size house with small back yard. As we used to enjoy walking & cycling our previous dog. We intend to keep a dog again with the same type of activities. Also, we would want a small dog. What sort of of breed would you recommend? I did see the photo, lol. I didnt read all the posts but after having read the above post I would have thought that the OP is looking for a dog to walk or cycle alongside them. I dont think they are looking for a lapdog to carry along when they are exercising. Everyone has said the same thing Moselle, PF put that up as a joke..... I didnt read every other post and was just responding to FranCQ's comment to me as to whether I had seen the photo which I had. My understanding is that the OP is looking for a dog that will keep up with them when they are cycling or whatever else and not as an accessory, lol. I don't know what advice others have given and besides which it is not the first time that posters offer the same repeated advice, right? lol

If you are adamant in wanting a dog to exercise alongside with you I really do not recommend a pomeranian. I really dont think its fair on a german or japanese spitz either. Perhaps you should consider a larger dog with plenty of energy to burn such as a kelpie, border collie, golden retriever or labrador, plenty of others to choose from also. Please remember NEVER to overexercise a dog when it is still young, wait for the growing to be complete otherwise you will be left with a dog fraught with skeletal problems.

Of course you can! ;) PF, I beg to DIFFER. A pom bred by a registered breeder is TINY. Too TINY to be expected to gallop alongside someone on a bicycle. ;)

Done. Have heard too much about that vile person named Ron wells. Is he not a member of parliamant and a vet?

You didn't even mention him in your first post, you were just outraged that people could believe it wasn't a pitbull. I know where you're coming from it happens all the time on here, like you said people jumping to defend them, but history has proven them right time and again. No, it's not right to imply innocent dogs, but when is it right to imply any dog attack as a pitbull, which more often than not is exactly what happens. I feel you took Mr Linkes comments out of context, and that is your perspective, whereas I feel he was merely explaining what happens at nearly every dog attack where a pitbull has been implicated. He didn't say it couldn't have been a pitty, just that people are mistaken when it comes to breed ID. It's the same with SWF's I couldn't pick one of them or their crosses, they're all SWF's to me, i'd be glad to have someone like Mr Linke point out what it could've been. Well put Geo, I agree with you whole heartedly. Moselle, as I said, I also understand where your coming from, I respect your right to an opinion, I just happen to disagree and that's OK. I guess we all interpret things differently hey. Just curiously, you asked me previously what breed I owned and referred to the dog in my avatar. Was there any reason for this or where you just clarifying? Yes, I was only trying to clarify. I haven't been here on this forum for all that long, that is all. From memory, you mentioned that people often confuse your dog for a pitbull (apologies if I am mistaken) and the picture on your avatar looks nothing like a pitbull. I do respect the fact that you have chosen to disagree, I dont hold grudges simply because people interpret things differently. Cheers.

You know what? I don't know why I allowed some of your comments to upset me? A sad and very heartwrenching event has occured the last 30 mins. and it has made me realise how petty all this has been in comparison. Life certainly has its fair share of hurdles. -

No reason why your supporters couldn't have posted Moselle. If they'd really wanted to support you, I'd argue they'd have done so. Fact is, they choose to let you defend your position alone. I don't call that very supportive. It takes all types; such is life! -

So the R$PCA is opposed to BSL is it Mr Linke, then why did the R$PCA lobby the Federal Government to bring BSL into being in the first place ? If the R$PCA is opposed to BSL, then why are they not lobbing the Federal Government to have BSL abolished ? I think we know why don't we. Moselle, Don't worry mate, some people can't see the Forrest through the trees. Thank you tarope for having the backbone to speak out. I also would like to thank those that pm'd me with their support, it is rather sad though that they could not do so in the open but I can somewhat understand. Hey guys, you could have voted though without fear of being "found out." -

You seem unable to grasp the fact that most of the respondents to your posts have repeatedly expressed the opinion that they don't think those breeds (don't forget the crossbreeds now) were blamed. Moselle, you are entitled to hold any view you choose. However you can hardly expect people to remain silent when you appear to have formed it erroneously. Its the fact that you have interpreted what was said as blaming two breeds that people are taking issue with. What happened to those guns? I handed them in to the local cop station, I have no need for them. -
Moselle, calm down. Above is your first post, you believed it was pits that attacked the dog. Everyone just wants the truth and I (as will everyone else it seems) will stick up for any breed until it's proven guilty. The fact that it happens more with pitbulls than any other breed would've led Mr Linke to make such comments, and comments that most educated dog owners would've made. I know you're against BSL, I get the feeling you don't like pitbulls, but hey that's your choice, you just have to understand that people will give you a serve when you have a rant like you did in the post above. I was stating the obvious after having read Mr. Linke's statement as I read it to be very hypocritical and simply trying to defend his breed of choice. When is it okay to imply that the attack on poor Harry COULD have been carried out by a staffie or a mastiff or crossbreeds and yet not okay to imply a pitbull? Yes, I too, am in fairness for all breed of dogs and NOT just the pitbull!

:( Well, I guess that your comment entitles me to pose the same question to you - "how do YOU know that the dogs that did this attack were not pitbulls?" It seems that the mentality around here is a serious case of "what is good for the gander is NOT good for the goose!" LOL So basically, it is okay to blame dog attacks on staffies or mastiffs (without actual proof) and yet the second that the pitbull is mentioned ya all get yourselves in a lather? Ya can jump up and down as much as ya like, I am still stickin to ma guns! -

What "clear evidence" There is no evidence that HE did not make that statement and in fact all seems to prove that he did! You all appear to be siding with him simply because he opposes BSL irrespective of how he puts his foot in his mouth in the process of doing so! I will not have other breeds implicated in dog attacks simply to salvage the reputation of the pitbull. I agree with Mr. Linke wanting to make a stand but he could and SHOULD have adopted a smarter and fairer way to get his point across. Mr. Linke was being completely selfish when making that statement and did not give a damn what the repercussions of such a statement could incur. -
Can you fricken blelive it! See Moselle people can be mistaken, mislead, whatever they are.. blaming pitbulls for everything and you were only to happy to belive it! It seems that everyone who responded to this thread was on the side of Mr Linke and he has clearly been vindicated, all this slandering and sensationalism for media sake, to sell papers. How about a little truth, like,"2 dogs attacked", "or i don't know what breed they were". Honestly, some of you have got to be either stupid or nasty! Some of you are such insidious individuals who take great delight in twisting and turning everything around to suit yourselves. I have never agreed with people blindly pointing the finger and blaming the pitbull for dog attacks and my posts clearly indicate such. How f***ing dare you say that I agree with people assuming that dog attacks are indeed carried out by pitbulls? At the end of the day, you cannot educate mugs and no matter how much I try to explain my views in detail there always has to be one or two individuals raising their ugly heads and be completely spiteful with whoever does not agree with their point of you, which is what you are trying to achieve with your quote above.
