  1. Turn a blind eye to what? It is not against any animal welfare law to breed multiple breeds or to do so regularly. What basis would you suggest the RSPCA has to turn up other than a baseless complaint from a member of the public?? Are you in favour of the RSPCA having the authority to drop by based on the fact that someone has views about the level of tidiness of your property? Rangers would have more reason if they're failing to comply with council regs. But how do we know they are? No, ABSOLUTELY NOT! I would not like the RSPCA having the authority to drop by based on the views of the tidiness of the property BUT when it comes to someone breeding large scale...I am not so sure.....it all boils to ethics and I would NEVER give the RSPCA more powers than they already have....entering a property and seizing animals with all kinds of allegations? ....mmmm, that is a great concern as it is all dependant on the sincerity of the individual. It is a big ask.
  2. Well, there you have it....the factory is still operational ! Perhaps the RSPCA dropped by to investigate and may not have had a problem with them....not that that means everything but at the very least....it has been looked into...maybe! Putting the blinkers on is not exactly the right approach....
  3. I have many issues with it. However, until its against the law, my personal feelings are not sufficient reason to call the RSPCA. They need evidence. At worst, these are vexatious complaints - that's harassment. Poodlefan.....the mere fact that these breeders are breeding multiple breeds and appear to have a litter every month or so is an indication that they are breeding large scale and that deserves a visit from the RSPCA and even though some things may not be against the law does not mean that we should turn a blind eye. How do you know they haven't already HAD visits from the RSPCA? Breeding multiple breeds and lots of them, whilst not necessarily what is acceptable to some is still within the law and provided they have their ducks in a row....there is little that the RSPCA can actually do. And regardless of anything, sooling the RSPCA onto somebody from a drive-by where there is apparently little or no evidence of mistreatment VISIBLE, is little more than harrassment. If you have a concern, then for goodness sakes make the effort to actually STOP and VISIT the premises and THEN if you have an issue, by all means contact the RSPCA. Personally, I would have stopped to see for myself BUT I am not going to crucify the poster because she opted not to stop! Breeding large scale may be 'within the law' but that does not make it right and I am adamantly against it esp if breeding several different breeds of dogs and selling them like grocery! It is considered an embarrasment for reg breeders to advertise a litter of pups via newspapers (nothing wrong with that imo) and yet its okay to sell living beings via a large sign hanging outside a property? You may consider it 'harrassment' to report such types to the RSPCA but my main concern lies with the animal's wellbeing.
  4. I personally would have wanted to take a closer look at the property to ensure that they did deserve to be reported to the RSPCA BUT lest we forget that selling puppies and kittens on a regular basis DOES constitute PUPPY MILLING !! The OP has made it amply clear that there were large signs advertising puppies & kittens on a very regular basis! Too regular for my liking....breeding should be done to better the breed and NOT as a means to pay one's mortgage! I must say that I dont think too highly of anyone wanting to sell animals esp pet animals via signs outside a property. Given that most of you like to take up residence on a mountain top and shout your distaste at pet shops for getting their 'stock' from puppy millers (me included) and also for relying on people walking by and purchasing a pup on a whim because it looks cute, I am surprised that you dont have issues with people adopting the method of selling pups via signs outside a property...same concept as far as I am concerned! Puppy mills/farms are not illegal. Nor is selling many puppies regularly via a sign posted out front. Doesn't matter how highly or lowly you think of them, or whether it's to your liking or not, it's not against the law. Puppy mills/farms may not be illegal BUT that does not make it right! And I must add that what the poster has done is not illegal either, she showed a genuine concern for the welfare of those animals and rightly so. She did nothing wrong in reporting them to the RSPCA...and besides which, if these breeders are up to par with their breeding practices....they have nothing to fear, so nothing gained...nothing lost, right?

  7. I thought the world of the RSPCA....once upon a time, NOT anymore! Certainly have learnt alot the last few months! Makes me feel like we are living in Gestapo land...very disconcerting for breeders doing the right thing and even though I am not a breeder atm and may never breed again, I do feel for the ethical and genuine breeders. Even though there have been moments of disagreements here on DOL I must say that I have certainly learnt a great deal pertaining to the subject of dogs, quite a smart bunch of people lurking around here...
  8. Because people automatically assume that when there is a dog attack it would be the staffy side of the cross that is responsible for such attacks.....given that labradors were not bred originally as fighting dogs may have something to do with the negative public's perception of staffies.
  9. There you go - you said you've found one so why keep asking for another one? Just go and have a consult with him/her. All the best. It would be really hard to lose a dog and think objectively. The poster is thinking objectively but when you know that the wrong thing has been done you do want to take a stand to ensure that this sort of thing doesnt repeat itself but unfortunately without strong evidence it can prove to be an expensive and fruitless battle.
  10. HE IS SOOOO BEAUTIFUL, you must be so proud of him and rightfully so!
  11. You may recall not all that long ago a poll was placed on this forum and a fair few posters voted in favour of the RSPCA with their proposed plans to shut down puppy farmers....I was one that thought I was doing the right thing and blindly signed a petition, how could I have been so daft! The thought of the RSPCA being a law unto itself is horrifying! The RSPCA having the power to enter a property and seizing animals there and then.....is something out of a horror show! It is one thing if the animals are indeed neglected or cruelty cases but my belief is that they have enough powers as things stand, give them an inch and they will take a mile and not always for the right reasons.
  12. Are these proposed new laws a sure thing? If the labour party doesn't get voted in at the next elections....is that to say that these proposed new laws are not going to be passed? The idea of the RSPCA having more power and being able to enter a property and seize all animals with claims that they are being neglected is indeed a frightening thought.
  13. Yep and Vic dogs members think they will be exempt but no matter what the domestic animals laws says they will have them anyway via environment and planning. I will never vote for anyone who tells me they will give more power to a quasi police force with no process of accountability. You are so so right Steve, well said! I am all for the shutting down of puppy farmers but unfortunately it doesn't stop there..... I sure as hell will NOT be voting the labour party, no siree !!!!
  14. OMG that video is just so heartwrenching. That poor poor dog.....what an existance.
  15. HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY ODIN. Would be great to see some photos of the birthday boy.
  16. Change of mind, sorry. Thank you for your response ravenau1
  17. If you want to purchase a fair few blades then it is most certainly worth purchasing from the USA. Blades here in Oz can cost from $60 ++. Blades in the USA cost from $26. Even with postage you are still saving a great deal.
  18. Yes, I actually meant "species specific" LOL. I don't doubt that fleas are just as happy on a chihuahua as they would be on a poodle. As for vaccinations.....I should have been more specific....I do believe in puppies having their shots, in fact it is imperative that pups are vaccinated followed by a booster 12 months later and then no more shots for the duration of their life, if in doubt... the best way to go in my opinion is to carry out a titer test every 3-4 years instead of subjecting one's dog to more unecessary shots.
  19. Don't feel silly, the person who suggested that should - bloody hell A dog who is allergic to fleas doesn't even need to have any fleas living on them - they can just be bitten as the Flea jumps. Fleas can bite humans and do alot of the times, are some people more sensitive to flea bites to others...yes....just like anything else. If you find fleas on your dog then treat the dog and consider thhis could be causing an allergic reaction. Just head to your Vets. I suppose you are referring to my saying that fleas are "breed specific" ????? And how is that not so??? lol. If fleas were not "breed specific" they would be literally jumping from one human's head to another.....and I have never heard of that happening, lol. It may happen that if one lands on a person they may bite but they're not about to take up residence on a human....any time soon, lol. I must add that with all the people that I have met in my lifetime I have NEVER heard of anyone being bitten by a flea.
  20. In my breed there are quite a lot of people who have absolutely NO intention of breeding - they just love to show! One particular exhibitor is just about to start entering her newly neutered boy over the next couple of weeks. I am guessing that there are just as many show folk who just exhibit (and dont breed) as there are people who just breed (and dont show)! As I said.....at the time when I was breeding, exhibiting without breeding was scarce.....times may have changed recently and if so I am all for it.
  21. It's a fine line between showing a dog and breeding from it....and inevitably greed sets in and dogs that go on to win multiple shows end up being bred. I think that the volume on this video needs to be turned on given the claims that are made.....me thinks that if there was no truth to such claims the blonde lady would be suing for slander !!!! If you are of the belief that dogs with potential health problems should be shown then perhaps it is time for dog associations to allow DESEXED dogs to be shown and, as you know, this is forbidden besides which.....most people that opt to show their dog are breeders, not too many "pet owners" making a point of showing their beloved pet! The reason most breeders show is in the hope of winning coveted ribbons (and in some cases - deservedly) for its prestige and the reputation of being regarded as breeders of "QUALITY" puppies. Moselle, you are really out of touch or have nothing to do with the exhibition of dogs , as neuters can be shown, as of this year they can now start earning points towards their neuter titles. Plenty of dogs and bitches are exhibited, some with BIS wins and they may never be bred from, for whatever reason. Just because you show it, doesn't mean you should or have to breed from it. Recognition as a breeder of "quality" puppies, can come partly from what is seen in the ring, but the true test is the majority that go as pets. I give little or no cred to PDE and it's wise to take it with a grain of salt . I was a reg. breeder not all that long ago and desexed dogs were not shown then, I just assumed that this still applied but as you said....the showing of neutered dogs started this year....by "neutered"....does that apply to male dogs or are speyed females allowed to be shown also? At the time when I was breeding I had contact with quite a fair few reg. breeders of a few different breed of dogs and I never encountered a single one that was showing without breeding.....if times have changed since then.....all the better but I would think that those that show and don't breed would be few and far between.

  23. Ive been told warm diluted tea works but you should also look at your dogs diet as poor quality foods with nasty ingredients can be the cause if not a medical condition.Im sure theres plenty of members with more knowledge than me here who can elaborate on this. I would think that tea would serve the stain the area even further, lol. I can see what tea does to my coffee mug....let alone to a white coated dog.
