I beg to differ on your opinion here wayrod.... We were granted a prefix (which hubby added to our selection of prefix choices - our last choice on the list of 9) and when we got it we decided we didn't like it so we submitted another application (yes paid again too) with 2 choices only under our same names for the same breed and we were granted the prefix we use now. This was 12 months ago. We have two current prefix for the same breed under the exact same names at the exact same address but don't use the first one and will not renew it when the time comes.

Nutrigel & Calcium Supplement During Labor?
Rottsup replied to Labkisses's topic in Breeders Community
This is an interesting debate........and more so for me at the moment as we have a litter due shortly. I totally agree with Steve on this however I will add what my repro specialist vet told me a couple of weeks ago (which is almost what Steve is saying anyway). He said the calcium is totally not nessasary BUT the sugar in the calcium suryp can help a bitch in the later stages of having a large litter to help give her a little more energy and works a bit quicker than giving a high carb feed as many bitches do not and will not feel like feeding at this point so the suryp is easy to administer to help with a little pick me up in those later stages. He also said (about Nutrigel) this is primarily used to help newborn pups suckle (if they are one of those difficult sucklers at first) put the tiniest droplet of Nutrigel onto the newborns tongue and watch the little one start sucking Just thought I would offer this info from our vet -
Hey Bokezu, I've been waiting for you to post the brand of your little puppy nylon collars.... have they arrived yet?

Here is a photo taken today of our Kody's fat belly at 44 days preggers.... Edited to add gestation days

He is the most cutiest little thing I have ever seen... he is beautiful Coming from the Uk to Oz you could call him "James Cook" or "JC" for short (If you called him JC for short it keeps with your "i' or "y" sound on the end too) It's hard to think of a strong name for such a cute little pup like him. Good luck and let us know what you finally choose Edited to fix spelling

mumof3... you have some awsome ideas here for any budding prefix hunter :D

Great news Paptacular.. we used a good vet in Palmerston down near Durack (can't remember the name now as it's been a few years)

Hi all, We purchased ours over the net too.... much cheaper and it could be cut to any size required ie: trailer & crates We have rubber backing which started to perish on first cold water wash but not yet tried the pee on the top test...will get it out when we unpack in a few weeks and try with water out of curiousity. Maybe it is the brand... mine was brought from a lady in Oz who imported the rolls from England. Cheers Rottsup

lol ... There is no problem. Unless of course you see fault with, why we have more BYB's in Australia supplying dogs then we do the people who really need to be. Breeders. I would wager anyone prepared to pay twice the amount for their dog, go on a waiting list for sometimes 3 years for the dog they want, sometimes need ... I am willing to go on record to say they won't go through all of that to neglect their dogs or be bad owners. I don't have a fence, nor do I need one like someone in suburbia might. Lucky my breeders are open minded, and didn't give me a blanket answer, huh? Braithwaits, please do yourself a favour... go visit the RSPCA or breed rescue near your home and ask them questions as to where this dog is from and the circumstances of why it is here. Then come back here and tell us you are prepared to go on record with that statement. I have worked with both on a volunteer basis and that's probably why I have such a strong opinion on this matter which perhaps should be titled "suitable forever puppy homes" for whichever breed in question. I worked with the animal shelter on the gold coast during my uni degree as the photographer. So I'm not ignorant to the matter. Are you suggesting most dogs in a pound/ shelter have come from people who bought from breeders? I could count the pedigree dogs I saw at the shelter on one hand and not use any fingers. ZERO! I'm really not sure as to what your point is. Most of the dogs at the shelter were because of aggressiveness toward children, or damaging/ annoying behaviour (due to the dog being bored breathless). I'm not even sure how many dogs were there because of living in apartments, but it definitely wasn't a reoccurring issue that left everyone butting their head against a wall. I am not aware of how long ago you were in Uni and worked in an animal shelter.... it may have been in the sixties for all I know but I can tell you for sure that (just this year) our Rottweiler Rescue has had many pedigree dogs surrendered where circumstances have changed and the owner can no longer keep him or her for what ever reason (one surrendered this week in fact & breed by a breeder in SA) Thank god for microchipping so the breeders can be tracked and contacted before re-homeing. I am not saying there are any dogs from appartments in there now but there certainly has been a few this year that I am aware of. Particularly dogs who have regularly barked and neighbouring appartment dwellers complain and then the dog owner has to get rid of it or face there marching orders to leave their home. I am not here for a full on arguement Braithwaite or to waste my whole day tapping away on the key board to justify my own thoughts on this matter. I have said what I wanted to and this matter is now closed for me. You are entitled to your opinion too so lets agree to disagree on our thoughts. Have a nice day

wow that helps.....not just so ya know i have a big house with a big yard..and a small dog.......doesn't mean i don't have an opinion nor does it mean i haven't seen other with dogs in apartments living well how rude JB, Not being rude intentionally if that's the way you took it.... just adding my opinion as you do. I don't need to know the type of property you live in nor the type of dog you own.... this is generalising and I too have seen a lovey cream labrador in an appartment 5 stories high just standing there & looking out of the window for hours as I mentioned in the breeders post.

Interesting generalisation. I live on a 3/4 acre block in a coastal/ rural nsw town. Proceed with your blanket stereotypes close mindedness. You're a real credit to the dog breeding world. Thanks for your vote of confidence, however I never said you lived in an appartment or anything else specifically about you so your quote of Blanket steriotypes & closed minds is once again come about because of your lack of understanding that this issue is about the dog and his/her needs, not the potential news owners "wants". Have a lovely Xmas

Crazy. Based on yard size? Breeders know no more about me and my ability to raise a dog than what my butcher does. That's why breeders ask questions of potential puppy buyers. Wouldnt you rather a breeder care where one of their pups end up? Again. Crazy. No one is saying breeders shouldn't care about their dogs and where they go. You keep avoiding the real question. Where does yard size correlate to being a negligent dog owner? It isn't so much negligent, just not ideal. For pup's bones to grow well and strong, they do need a certain amount of low-impact stress. This can happen when pup can move around freely on a soft grass surface several times a day. It can't happen in confined spaces with large breeds. A breeder that knowingly places a dog in a situation where its needs won't be met is negilgent. The dog buyer is just ignorant, rather than negligent. Totally agree with you Greytmate

Apart from a small handful of the posters in this topic like Rebanne, raz & ReadySetGo.... the rest of you are referring to one off situations and your personal experiance of one or two dogs..... In the big picture... med to lge breed dogs do not belong in appartments or tiny back yards. If you are in that situation yourself and are trying to justify it, don't bother as I am sure the majority on here would know better. If you have felt discriminated because YOU choose to live in an appartment but a breeder wont sell you a GSD (or whatever breed purely due to your accomodation).... well you poor thing I feel sorry for YOUR CHOICE of living BUT the dog dosent get the luxury of choosing where they live therefore it is up to their breeder to insure an appropriate home for their puppies. The bottom line is; if you choose to live in an appartment - keep gold fish!

Aitewan, you are doing the right thing by your puppies AND you are doing the right thing by your buyers AND you are doing the right thing for yourself (peace of mind) The photo's of your pups are beautiful. Thank you for sharing

My thoughts are "NO WAY" We stayed at a friends appartment in Sydney for a week earlier this year.... on the 5th floor was a beautiful cream Labrador. Whenever we were outside (one time for 2 hours) the poor thing just looked at us from the window as if he was saying.... "get me out of here, I just want to be out side in the fresh air and with the people" We never saw the owners bring him/her down to the grassed area or take him/her out (not that we were always there and or looking). I felt so sorry for this dog.... it's just not natural for a bigish dog to be couped up all day like that. As these people are (or appear to be) great owners who will care & love their puppy unconditionally, perhaps you can suggest to them that it's not about them, it's about the dog and once they have moved into a suitable property with a yard, you would be happy to help them find a new puppy.

This shop was great although smelly they gave a good "breeder" discount but as of November 2010 the business was sold and IMO the product quality has gone down as the roo meat we brought had alot of offal and "white" bits in it which were never there in the 2 years we brought this product. The new owner told me when he took over the prices were too cheap and that's why the old owner had to sell as he was going down financially. Since to new owner has taken over, I ordered 50kg of Roo meat and 40 large meaty roo tails on one order, all confirmed the day before as I had to drive for an hour to get there. When I arrived, no meaty tails.... so I told them I wasn't happy driving all this way when the product was confirmed for me. The owner took my name, address & phone number and offered to drop the roo tails off to me within the next week as he lived near us. That was 6 weeks ago and we've never heard from them . The new owners have lost my business and at least 2 others that I know of ($1,000+ worth of sales per month)

I am doing the same thing, but from WA to Vic this month I have been advised by Dogs Vic just to bring in my original prefix cert, dogs pedigrees and membership letter (if it's expired by a short period, no probs) as we will have to pay the Dogs Vic membership again when we transfer. It may pay for you to call Dogs Qld for some guidence as we did with Dogs Vic Good luck with your move

Seriously??? Yip, I had it on my "watch" list on eBay and once the auction finished...there it was, sold for $1

Thanks Sue So this obviously means there is no transfer paperwork needing to go through Dogs Vic.
