Recently had some read by Lavelle in Victoria, had my result back in 2 days

We don't have any puppies or any litters due. However I was wondering what breeders were doing in regards to this new law in Victoria where the microchip number must be included in your advertisement. My interpretation of this law is that you can not advertise your litter ie: 6 girls & 6 boys without inluding 12 microchip numbers in the said ad. If this is the case then I wont be advertising my puppies (when ever that may be) until after they are 6 weeks old as I will not microchip until a min age of 6 weeks. Wondering what other breeders do and particularly breeders with small breeds in Victoria will do too... PS: This State is so legislated (not just with animals) and over taxed that I wonder why ppl choose to live in Victoria !!!!

Huntia, how is your boy going with his sore knee? Just curious as my girl has just been diagnosed with a strained knee but I think it is her foot rather than her knee

Depending on your breed. We have Rottweilers and we NEVER add calcium powder to their food. We feed a holistic dry food PLUS raw lean red meat with grated raw fruit & vegies plus raw egg complete with shell (which is natural calcium) Yogurt (again nat cal) crushed garlic (keep fleas and maybe ticks away) sardines in oil (small bones in sardines is another source of calcium) PLUS raw whole chicken necks & carcases (more calcium) Your dog will absorb what his/her body requires naturally from these whole foods and disgard the rest. We also feed all our dogs at their chest height from about 3 months of age so they are not putting undue weight on their front legs / pasterns. As Diesel's Mate says... walking on uneven surfaces or pea gravel for 10 to 30 mins (build up slowly) a day should help strengthen your puppy's pasterns and his/her splayed toes. Then once they are nice and strong make sure you allow him/her on grass, gravel, sand and other different surfaces regularly. Good luck :D

Hi Bisart Dobes, A few of questions for you... 1. Can you get a "canine" specific Super Colostrum as I know of many brands but all contain lactose and cows milk proteins? 2. With the Lifestream ADE, is there a canine specific brand? 2. Where do you buy your Super Colostrum and Lifestream ADE from as neither appear to be easily found in Vic? Thought I would add my experience from January 2011. No airline or pet carrier to my knowledge will fly a pregnant dog after 42 days gestation. On vets advice, we flew our bitch at 35 days from Perth to Melbourne and not sure if it was the stress of the flight or the stress of the move in general but she lost her litter at 48 days gestation. She has gone on to deliver a healthy litter of 12 after mating at her next season. I would never fly a pregnant bitch again unless it was right after mating...ie: within a few days from being mated.

In my breed (Rottweilers) most definitely not & our breed club COE wouldn't allow either.

This poll is ridiculous....Rotti's are the most beautiful loving loyal dogs, apart from when they are in the hands of a dickhead and being taught to bite. However like any human race, dog breed etc, there are a small handful or huge manority who make or create a bad name for the rest.... then to top it off, the media reports are mostly exaggerated which creates many people in the community believing what they hear/read... sadly Poll now at Yes - 5523 (37%) No - 9320 (63%) - getting there

We have had two litters within the last 4 months. First litter of 10 were quite manageable and the mum was very good at flicking the ones who were full off with her tongue which allowed others to come in to feed. Our current litter there are 12 pups and the extra 2 make a big difference. They are 17 days old today. We rotate in 2 groups of 6 around the clock 24/7 which has worked very well so far. All but one of the pups doubled their birth weight by 12 days old. We did not supplement feed but kept a very close watch incase we needed to. We still have the 2 groups of six and will continue to do this even when we start solids as I feel it will be easier for the pups to get their fair share and for us to manage too. We did put the 6 who were not nursing in one of those plastic tubs on wheels with a hotwater bottle and a towel over the top to stop draughts but we found that without some air circulation the plastic box got condensation which dampened the towel in the bottom (under the hotwater bottle) so we brought a laundry basket which was tightly woven plastic but allowed some slight air flow without any draughts and this worked so much better. When we take them to the vet for their first vaccinations and microchips we put them all in a crate in the back of our car and off we go. Once there (I have help) one of us gets one while the other stays with the vet while he does the vaccinations and microchip, once one is done the next one is in the room and we take the one done back to the crate and keep going until they are all done. If we could get a vet out to our place we would but generally they want quite a large fee to visit us. Hope this helps someone :-)

Hi Tatjana 32 is not extremely high in the scheme of things with HD in Rottweilers. However it does mean you CAN NOT ever breed with her. 32 does not mean she has HD or even that she will develop HD. My suggestion is to make sure she receives regular low impact exercise (like swimming), give her fish oil with chondroitin daily and have her desexed. This way you are doing everything possible to ensure she has a long happy healthy life with you. Good luck

Hi Dju, We have Rottweilers on it so as far as having a breed with large thick bone goes I think it is great BUT we also feed raw chicken carcases, roo meat and much more in the way of raw meaty bones. ETA: It costs me $75 for 20kg but we drive to the distributor and pick it up so no delivery costs.
