  1. OP that is a fantastic question and I wouldn't have a clue why any of mine came to be honest though will try and post what I think fits. Chevy came to me to show me 1. just how beautiful dogs are and to show me2. how to look after a dog and also to show me 3. that being calm and laid back was always the best way to handl everything (she was my first dog after kleaving home, but slightly unfair as she was pretty perfect so she didnt really prepare me for others lol). RIP Lennox came to show me 1. patience and 2. unconditional love 3. just how fun it is to play with a dog by rollinground on the ground with them (he was an escaper and a wrecker and very annoying but I adored him). RIP Barney came to 1. show me a bit of reiteration on the patience (he is a bit annoyign and clingy) and also to show me 2. how nice it is to feel safe under the watchful eye of a dog who loves you (he is an awesome awesome guard dog) and 3. that just because you reach maturity it doesnt mean you have to grow up (he loves to be silly) Pippi (ahhh miss monster) came to me to 1. to show me that tiny dogs are not babied little yappers all the time but are really real dogs in smaller packages 2. to show me how to smile and laugh more often and finally 3. that a good grease up with licks, cuddles and cute faces ALWAYS difuses a tense situation
  2. Fantastic post. I was also going to ask what the above person (dori?? - bad memory) asked in regards to it being an "anti non purebred breeder" documentary. I thin it would be fantastic to see all the ways you can purchase an ethically bred puppy regardless of breeding. And vice versa too maybe, that sometimes breeders of purebreds are also puppy farmers and not ethical. I think anything that explains health checks and what to look for, and maybe even some tips on finding the right pup/dog for oyur family (this will help with less rehoming when people are advised about what type/s of dogs will fi tin with them) will be a good film and I will most definately watch it.
  3. I am currently sat on my daugters mini mama san chair with a laptop on my lap and the wee dog curled under my armpit and up the side of the chair (there is not much room with my big bum in it) and th ebig boy is sat in the armchair I usually sit in lol Everyone else is in bed. Generally our dogs just make themselves comfy wherever they want. As long as they get off when told to I am happy for them to sit where they like. My mum comes over from NZ in two weeks though and you can gaurantee while she is here she wll make them stay off all the furniture lol
  4. My lab/rotty will destroy all toys. Got them a few new toys yesterday, and one of them he decided was his target for the evening and within about 5 minutes it was totally munted. He won't go near it now but the little one loves it now hes ruined it for her (she didnt like it while it was new lol)
  5. My wee girl was done at 6 months and ya wouldn't even know she'd had an op. We took her home after being at the vet all day and they suggested she might need to go toilet as she had been refusing to go at the vet. Took her home and into the backyard where she did a wee and then proceeded to do bloody zoomies around the backyard!!! We tried hard for maybe 24 hours to keep er relatively quiet but it was impossible and in the end we left her to it figuring that if she wasn't up to racing round then she wouldnt be doing it.
  6. My two don't always snuggle as Pippi likes to be with me, and Barney likes to be on the chair next to mine but as I speak they are currently on their bed together in front of the heater having a back to back snuggle. When we first got Pippi, barney wasn't sure of snuggling with her as he was used to being the baby and cuddling up to the older dog. Now he is the older dog that the young one wants to cuddle up to and he was a bit kinda "wtf I am the cuddler" at first but now they will snuggle together and do lickys and chewies and all that lovely crap. t's so cute it's ridiculous. We also used to have cats who would cuddle up with the dogs too. Barney and Pippi - scuse the cords LMAO (these ones arent too snuggly but I can't find my other pcitures of them really getting into it on the chair) Umm excuse the "bedside table and lamp" in this one (we had just moved to Oz and hadnt got a bedroom suite yet lol) This one is Barney and Chevy (she was th eolder) and B especially loved snuggling with her
  7. Gosh, good question. It varies in my house. On a work night, I wold be in bed by midnight right after dogs go for wees. Then they would be out in the morning by 7am at the latest. However, I have one time gone to bed at 10.30 pm and got up at 11am!! I was actually quite annoyed as OH and DD were up and hadn't thought to let the dogs out (they sleep in their own room righ tby the back door). Poor babies were probably hanging out for a wee!!! Generally though, They would not be "sleeping" for more than 8 hours and that would be max usually.
  8. If I separated my two, the big dog goes nuts. He hates being awy from his best girl (I usuallywalk them separately andhe cries the whole time she is gone, she ont he other hand doesnt care lol). She has been flung roung by him a few times in play and she just learnt to run quicker. Tehy do get very rough and I was concerned initially but she is a tough wee mite and as someone else pointed out, I thin she would be the one to hurt the big dog if anything LMAO I am feeling a little relieved I am not the onyl one who lets my dogs run together all the time. So, my question for those who supervise the small dogs with the big dogs is, do you also supervise dogs of the same size? If not, why not?
  9. Growing up we had one pure yellow lab girl, one black boy lab x curly and one mini foxie girl and never once did any of them hurt each other and they were always in the yard together unsupervised.... but they all had natures that clicked together and the male was the oldest he was 5 and the yellow lab was 1 when we got the foxie but the lab mothered everything her whole life and the foxie was just great still have her at 14 now she is buggered poor old thing she is. As a teenager i was given a shar pei shabu (bu) she was 2 when i was given her n my old lab about 9 and had always been top bitch well they got on fine for the 6months or so then the pei decided she wanted to be top bitch n kara wouldnt back down, ended up having to pen the shar pei as if it were the lab that was penned the shar pei would try to get in with her anyway. I am lucky the 2 fights i was home to break up and all i had to do was yell their names and they stopped (dogs excaping from pen) the old lab had to be pts because of old age and failing health not long after and not long after that my shar pei was stolen out of the yard Aww that sucks, We have never supervised any of the dogs we have. They are inside when we are home but while we are at work they always go outside together. We have never had any issues with any of our dogs. But my mum has had issues with al of hers having lots of scraps and having to be separated. She now only has one dog. It has crossed my mind that if Barney decided to go all psycho on Pippi that he would cause major damage very quickly but I just have a hard time imagining it ever happening. He doesn't even snap at her when she is being annoying, he just runs away LOL. He is soo gentle an patient that I do think they chances of them ever fighting are about 1 in a gazillion. However, I am well aware there is always a possibility so when we always keep an eye on their relationship and if I did ever spot something amiss we would likely change the current level of supervision. Oh, I do just remember though, once when feeding, Pippi did walk up behind Barney and he had a bit of a go at her (though all he did was pin her and growl at her). But feed time is always supervised so I just told him to stop and he did. Pippi now will not go anywhere near him while he is eating and will only approach his bowl once he has definitely finished and left it. I have noticed too that is she thinks he is getting annoyed (not that he ever appears to) she will go into automatic ass lick mode LOL
  10. LOL, I am the only irresponsible owner who does not supervise her large and small dog.
  11. Quite funny all the chat about misidentifying breeds etc. I had a staffy/boxer x who was mistaken for a pitbull on a regular basis. People would cross the road when we went out walking to avoid being ont he same side as him. What would have sucked is that if they had of decided to destroy (hypothetical) all pitbulls, my dog would have been taken along for the ride purely because of his appearance and even though he was a mutt, I met both of his parents, not one of which was a pitbull but I never would have been able to prove this. I currently have a large lab x who has even been mistaken for a pitbull because he is large and muscular. He doesn't even look like a pitty, he is hairy and black (particulatlr the hairy part). He is of unknown parentage however so may not even be a lab and could have some pitty, but he look slike a lab mix so for people to mistake him for a pitty is ridiculous. What makes this even funnier is I used to have a pitty/whippet x and while he was little people would stop and say is that a pitty baby, id say a mix yes and they would rave about how cute he was. By the time he was 6 months old he had developed exceptionally long legs and a very slim frame (I assume the whippet) but still had a small pitbull head, but because he was not muscular nobody thought he had pitbull in him. So funny, most regular people wouldnt know a breed if it jumped up and bit them on the face
  12. I was expecting something funny, but I just felt sorry for the poor tiny donkey, so overloaded. I agree, but I am a disturbed individual and I find it amusing LOL (well not th eoverloading but the result)
  13. Like most people I am usually taking the pcs so not many exist of me with my kids, except really for the below two: Pippi and mama having a lie down on the couch Barney, Pippi and mama (there were actually a few taken here but this is the only OK one lol)
  14. Hmmm, I am not sure if that is dog poo in that second to last pic, I hope not LMAO
  15. I have a 40kg lab x (he is 5 and an entire male) and a 5 kg foxy/shih tzu x (she is 1 and speyed) and they are best mates. We got our wee girl after my special girl died last year. Barney was used to being the baby of the two dogs so he had some adjusting to do in that department. for example our wee Pippi always wants to cuddle up to him, where as at first Bayney was used to cuddling up to his big sister. We didn't do anything special when we brough Pippi home at all. She was brought into the lounge when we got home, then we brang Barney in and that was it. Initially Pippi slept with us and spent the days insides while we were at work a she was too small to go outside with the big boy. But now, they are together during the day outside while I go work, and they sleep together in their bedroom. Pippi just adores Barney and follows him everywhere and if she gets scared she will go and stand under him (specially if mum isnt there to hide behind). Barney thinks it's fantastic that he has his own play buddy. Initially we were a little concerned that with his size that pippi may get hurt with any rough play, but man those two go nuts. She gets right into play fighting, and I didn't have to worry about her getting hurt because she is the rougher dog of the two LMAO. They also do zoomies together and Pippi outruns Barney on her little short legs and he has to "cut her off" which he usually does with a flick of his head and she goes rolling which causes her to get even more excited LOL. Barney is very good though. Without any help from us, while he plays rough with her, at the same time he is always very gentle with her and seems to know she is a bit smaller. They are constantly cracking us up, more so than when we have had two dogs of a similar size. Here are some pics of our kids together from day one to now (sorry I get a bit carried away lol)
  16. I had a look at youtube, I just can't help myself. What a stupid stunt. However, what gave me the giggles a bit was when this link popped up and I had a look
  17. Oh wow, I didn't know there were foxes in Australia. When were they introduced? I have been in Australia for about 18 months now and have to see any wildlife, I live right in inner west sydney though so that may be why. I am looking forward to seeing some proper wildlife at some stage. Coming from NZ we do not have much wildlife apart from birds.
  18. Deformed?? Because he has got kinda knock knees? Eeeeek My wee foxy/shih tzu has little knock knees when viewed from front on (not too bad but visible). They don't hinder her at all and we had the vet check them when we first got her and he said she will be fine. I have seen purebred shih's with that so I thought it was just what they looked like, is it really deformed? Can this cause issues later at all?
  19. Fantastic, thanks will definitely keep that in mind before zipping off to the vet.
  20. I used to feed mine at night and I always wondered if it was better then or in the morning (I used to think, especially in winter, nice to have a feed before bed so got some extra cal's to help keep warm lol), they now get fed twice a day though so problem solved lol
  21. Aww I think the wee chi/bull mastiff is a cutey! You certainly wouldn't want to see of any "breedings" done with any of them though as they could throw the huge pups!
  22. We have a large lab x (possibly rotty) and also a small shih tzu x foxy. They are always playing together and obviously there is a large size difference (30kgs in weight but much more in actual size). In December last year our big boy suddenly started walking funny and seemed to be sore round his lower spine/hip area. He wouldn't go on his back and when he was kinda moved that way he would scream. I took him to the vets and it was treated with a week of crate rest and anti-inflammatories. The vet put it down to a strain, most likely caused by playing with the much smaller dog. After a week of being crated and the meds, he was fine and had been since. Tonight, our daughter was standing kinda behind him with his butt between her legs. She was patting him on the back and then kinda whacked him on both sides (not an actual whack but you know those solid pats you give a dog on their sides - which he loves) and he kinda yelped about 3 times. We had a feel around and he seems to be a little sore again (not majorly though) down on his side near his back legs. He looks a little funny with his gait on his left rear leg and he is climbing quite slowly onto the furniture using his forelimbs to pull himself up. He is fine rolling around on his back thus far. I am going to give him some crate rest for the next day or so and see if that helps before we rush off to the vet but in the meantime I thought I would see what anyone else thought it could possibly be. Do you think it is a strain same as last time (from playing with the wee girl) or is it possible that the last one wasn't a strain at all and due to it recurring again six months later it might be something serious? He is 5 years old if that helps. Quite energetic and bouncy. He is also a very in your face type of dog, and like to climbs into your lap but he is not doing much climbing into your lap tonight - this could be due to him being sore and not wanting to put weight on the back. Any advice greatly appreciated (we will take him to the vet but would like to see how he progresses due to it clearing up last time with crate rest). TIA
  23. LOL yep. He is so funny, no matter how comfy he is whereevr he is, the minute you get out of your chair, he is in it. He will get off as soon as you tell him to but he has to grab the warm spot.
  24. Barney's fave spot is usually whichever chair you have just vacated Pippi's fave spot is with her mama
